Actually, faster cards are not necessarily better for Pi. The SD reader on the Pi 3 tops out at a measly 20MB/s, which is on par with good quality class 4 cards. However, the faster cards can have worse random read/write speeds. The random R/W performance is especially important for running a distro off of an SD card.

You don't need a USB Drive. You can alternatively connect the Pi to your PC or to your internet modem via network-cable and put the roms directly in the rom-folders on your pie. The folder hierarchy on the pi is the same as on the USB Stick.

I had trouble with not booting , after the image is written to the SD card windows 10 pops up with a must format the drive message which i did. this wipes the partition you need to boot. windows doesn't recognize it so it asks you to format it after the image is written. Don't do it
@amerk66016 жыл бұрын
Yeah, took me forever today to figure this out when I reformatted. I couldn't remember if this was an issue a couple years ago when I first did this, or part of an update. Long story short, my last SD card became corrupted, so I went to format a new one and reinstall everything, and kept getting stuck here: formatted, wrote the image to the card, asked to format again, wouldn't work in my Pi3. Finally discovered that when it asks you to format the second time (after writing the image to the card), don't do that, ignore it... and lo and behold it worked!

Keep in mind though, that the danger of getting a virus from downloading from these sites is quite real. Be very careful.
