Just FYI for anybody having issues installing RetroPie like this. Mine kept failing, would download most but would error out on some servers. I was using a gadget that receives wifi and converts to ethernet so I could use a wired connection since my metal case brings down the wifi range. I removed my Pi 5 from the case and used wifi connection to my router, success!! Seems like my extender device was causing issues with certain github servers or something. Beat this thing up for days until I figured it out.

Flycast-dev can handle at least 2x internal res when I built it with vulkan. Keep in mind that CDI is a very old format and might be the cause of your issues. I use CHD. It's a lossless compression format so I also save space. I'm not sure what saturn emulator you used but the best one available, beetle-saturn, can run any game at 4k60 on the pi5 at 2.8Ghz. The crt-pi shader looks great at 4k.

If they are in a zip file be sure to extract them. ik you probably already have done that but I had the same issue back in the day and that was the problem

@tazmixknowledge704 just follow Retropies install guide. You just can't do basic install method but instead install everything one by one. It should be one of the options lower on thr list than basic install. Just let it run. Took like 16 hours or something to do it that way

N64 is on of the systems that won't run on Pi5 unless you add a line to your `/boot/firmware/config.txt` file. If N64 won't run for you, add `kernel=kernel8.img` (without the quotes) to the file so that your Pi5 will boot up with a different kernel, allowing N64 to run. This worked for me.

n64 works on the 64bit build. you have to update the boot/config.txt kernel=kernel8.img

Question, now that you've gotten the 5v/5a power supply - have you tried powering 2+ external HDDs from just the USB ports on the PI? I'm waiting on my order to arrive and I'm hoping to run a little PI-NAS, if the power supply can power at least 2x2.5inch HDDs it would save me buying an external hub!

I was just fiddling with my 5 and have been booting from my nvme. However. I have just switched to SSD and it gave me a warning at loading to be sure I have a 5v 5a power supply ... for a single SSD. I have the correct power supply, and it told me to hit the power button on pi to correct it. Which I did and it did. But if its asking for the full power for a single SSD, it would not be so surprising that leeps is getting lock up. Just thought I'd share this, given the comment u have made.

hi lee, great video as always, I downloaded the lr-dolphin and dolphin standalone emulators to my pi 5, and they both work, however when I play animal crossing (using lr-dolphin) the game will crash at random spots between 2-3 minutes into the game, and when I finally made it to the part where you can save the game it won't save. I was going to try to use dolphin-gui to see if that fixes the problem, but none of my controllers work, and whenever I try to launch dolphin-emu at /opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin, it wont launch "because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized." Do you have any suggestions that would stop the crashing? I am running a 2.6ghz cpu and 900 mhz overclock on the pi 5, and I have a 27w power supply from geeekpi. Or do you know how to setup controllers on the standalone dolphin (dolphin-gui) emulator?

How did you get the controllers to work? At my retropie controllers work great in every game except all games needing dolphin to run. Dolphin seems not to follow the retropie controller settings but I don't see any specific Dolphin settings

I never ever got the N64 controls working on my pi4 in retro pi. I use a Xbox one controller but I can never seem to figure out how to get the right stick to use the c buttons correctly. For me hitting left on the right stick to use the left c button for Mario 64 to turn the camera never works. If I ever solve that riddle I’ll be working on my 8 pi’s again. I do plan on getting pi 5 working. I am curious for quake 3 arena how did you manage to get the full game installed cause I do have the steam version on my PC. Also since you have a pi5 I highly recommend showing wine, box86, or even twister OS improvements. I wish I had more patience with this stuff like my younger days when I was learning html on a Sega Dreamcast and building web pages and toying with modem init strings to create stability on its 56k modem and actually achieved 80 to 90 ms ping on quake 3 but these days I have too many projects and some have never started. With pi5 I actually plan playing a GameCube game that have servers up. Your videos motivate me to try toying with pi’s once again. There’s just too much trial and error for me sometimes and set aside for awhile. Eventually I might switch from windows to Raspbian once there is more support for all the pc games I have. Take care.

I would start with Recalbox as you are new to Pi. It is the best supported multi emulator so far on Pi 5 Recalbox Retro Gaming Raspberry Pi 5. Not like this. The emulators being used here are for the Raspberry Pi 5, which is most likely very different from your laptop. A quick and possibly incorrect Google search points me to retrobat as a "Retropie for Windows", and the games can't be legally redistributed, you'll have to extract them from your own copies to stay within the law.

This is so weird..I've tried it 10 times or so...pi os 32bit, pi os 64 bit, pi os lite 32bit, pi os lite 64 bit, pi os without desktop, etc..nothing works..always fault code "wayland not available"(or something like that). Batocera worked 1 time to play wii and it run pretty good.. After a reboot it won't work any more, even if I install betocera on a new drive it does not work. When I install the newest bios pack (38) it still doesn't work (anymore). (GameCube same story).

Can you test an actual Wii game? You tested twiglet princess again from your Wii folder but it's got the GC control overlay so it's the GC version lurking in your Wii folder (I pointed that out on one of your previous vids but obvs nobody noticed...)

Does anyone know why Retroarch runs in 30hz on my 1080p monitor when vsync is on? Tried this with bookworm (wayfire/wayland). The frequency in the os is set to 60hz.
