I'm signed in on partners account. But thank you Lee, these videos have just got me to a decent recalbox build, slowly getting all the bios and starting to do some clean up and house keeping. Was looking for the next, think this is it, like the little Nintendo game cases. Im trying to keep everything neat, and kid friendly. Had so much fun, just building it, and problem solving, I ain't got around to playing past testing games. 😂 chris

I'm running a Raspberry Pi 5 inside the Nespi 4 (got the idea from your original video). I modded mine so I can plug the official power supply directly in to the Pi. I also dremeled the place where the air comes in to allow more airflow.

Thanks for saving us the leg work, once I saw your video that pi5 would fit in nespi4 case I had wanted to try upgrading my retro console. Edit: don't know if you'll see this or not? I got my pi5 in today so came back to watch your video more closely and noticed your nespi4 case is like my first case .. but not like my 2nd case. I built my 2nd nespi4 set as a gift last year and found some differences. The biggest difference was that Retroflag changed the location of the fan to be directly on the vents at the top of the inside of the case and blowing down onto the smaller metal heat sinks you stick onto the chips on the pi4. The next big change (most importantly)was for the external drive for large game storage. Your case has the individual wires going to the adapter and if you use that you'll find a large rate of failure to detect the drive with the Emulation Station USBromService. With the new update it has a legitimate usb to the adapter for the drive and I've had no failures to read the drive on the adapter. Lastly: removing USB's from the front of the case no longer resets the pi, not sure what they changed there but watching yours do that reminded me about it. If you're going to continue to use the nespi4 case for your pi5, definitely consider getting a newer model for those updates .. or just wait to see if they make a pi5 version with lessons learned.

I always just assumed the drive holder was really meant for SSD's which is how I use mine. I'll hold out for the official Pi 5 version though it is nice to see the Pi 4 version can work with minimal modding and only the loss of LAN.

With those SD card extenders, you need to open up the black plastic shroud (where your micro SD card slots into) and there's a tiny resistor you need to remove/desolder from the PCB itself. I have 2x of these SD card extenders that both worked flawless with my Pi 3b+ but wouldn't work with my Pi 4, so after searching around on Google i came across a thread that gave the instructions on removing the tiny resistor. I still get the odd occassion where the O/S won't boot but a couple of switch off/switch on of my Pi 4 and it all works and runs perfect.

I have a samsung 870 evo 2tb SSD that fits perfectly in that NES cartridge case. Will have to check my gold cartridge to see what type of 1 tb it has. Edit before even posting: The drive is next to me on the floor and it's a 1tb Max Digital Data HDD. MD1000GBLS is the model number. No issues with it so far and it fits in these cartridge enclosures.

I used an old 4 part metal Ezpi case to place my rpi 5 in. Replaced the usb/ethernet port side with and rear plates with 3D printed parts.

I still need to check this myself. But if you power the Pi5 via the Nespi USB, it will not communicate the correct PD standard to the power supply and it should not provide it's max. 5A of power due to the smart electronics inside the power supply. So it might be the case that even though you have the Pi5 supply connected, it will deliver max 3A instead. The usb_max_current_enable=1 will only disable the power limitation on the Pi5's USB ports, nothing else. But as I wrote ... might ... I am not sure how the PD protocol in the Pi5 supply works but I think it will be the case since this is required by the USB PD standard

The Pi 5 works on 5V 3A it’s all I had for 2-3 months. I wouldn’t Overclock or plug in lots of power hungry devices
@Rob_6511 ай бұрын
@@leepspvideo I know, the Raspberry Foundation also wrote that 3A is enough. I have 2 Pi5 machines and only one of those uses a Pi5 supply, mostly because I have a 10" LCD that is powered by the Pi

@leepspvideo Kali just released version 2023.4 Support for pi 5 👊
@BillyNoMates197411 ай бұрын
not that I am knocking it or even this video but overall, since the Pi 5 has so much power. Does anyone think a Pi 5 emulating some types of consoles is a waste of processing power ? A pi 4 could do that and free upp the Pi 5 for real taxing processing.

Nes64 and above games get glitchy and PS2, but yeah for any retro gaming below that the pi 4 8G is plenty. You only save $5 tho.

anything below N64 can be emulated on a $15~ Pi Zero 2W.

that exact same extender you tried, the long one wouldn't work on my pi5. had been running it fine for a pi4 without issues but anything for the pi 5 just refuses to boot with it at all

Nespi case you got is the old one , they released a newer one because of issues with sd card and usb boot couldn’t do both unless you disconnected the usb connection
@harleyn308911 ай бұрын
I have the original. (I'm typing this on it.) It will definitely boot from SD without disconnecting the USB connection, as long as you remove the drive. I boot Android that way. The new one has two USB 2 connections instead of a USB 3 and USB 2. Using the USB 3 connection on the original would make the internal drive freak out.
