The 3DS version of this game is nuts, cause it gives you all the guns to swap from as you go, and lets you swap firing modes mid battle. It's... a little overwhelming, but soooooo fun!

note to potential new players: the little flying supply does only drop one item. you CAN do a melee bodyslam attack and make it drop more. it will also drop one if destroyed by repetitive melee.

Great job on this one. Covering shooter games can be a bit of a hassle since it's usually tackled like 'just shoot a bunch, and memorize patterns to not die', but you went the full mile here and detailed everything on the vast variety of playstyles, boss encounters and weapons to wield. Looking forward to the GBA sequel review!

I️ think you would LOVE Alien Soldier. It’s made by the same people and pretty much the true sequel to this, no offense to Gunstar Super Heroes. Hopefully you look it up, I️ was pleasantly surprised and it was super challenging.

It's not that I doubt the quality of my content, but KZbin is a place chock-full of popular and even more starting members. You started out way earlier and even though my Sonic Adventure and Sonic 2006 reviews managed to hit the top of KZbin search results, I haven't been seeing much growth from it (so far). Publishing fantastic content at a steady pace is the best I can do!

Also, pro tip: kicking those mechanical birds gives bonus drops. So you can get extra health or extra weapons

Gunstar Heroes is one of the best games of all time. I had so much fun with this in my childhood. My biggest complaint as an adult is that Homing + Laser makes the game a bit too easy. This is the second review I've watched from you after Symphony. You are quite detailed with everything. Keep up the good work.

Retropolis Zone I heard about that before but I didn't like it at first glance. Perhaps your video will convince me. As for Hard Corps, you could play the Japanese version which is more balanced. But you might miss out on the story and not understand all of the different paths.

the damage is nerfed a bit in EXPERT, the different weapons have different DPS depending on difficulty, The Lightning saber is way overtuned though, easily the best weapon by a wide margin.

All Genesis games I care about exist on other consoles and/or PC. For some reason, I want to own the cartridge version of this. This game is the only reason I want an actual Genesis.

These type of comments make my day. :) I grew up with a Mega Drive and have a couple of them now, but I stopped collecting old games and systems because the prices are outrageous nowadays. But yeah, Gunstar Heroes is definitely a kick-ass game. Very much worth playing and owning, and if the budget allows for it, to have the original cart in your collection.

Fixed and Free could have been different fire buttons on the B and C buttons. Weapon swapping could have been in a menu that pops up when you pause the game. There no shoulder button required, and when you want to swap weapons a quick pause is probably a good thing so you aren't fussing with it while being swarmed.

In Alien Soilder, the player can change between two shooting modes by pressing a button while holding down. It's very handy, good thing they thought of this.

You say there are no reason to play the Game Gear version over the Mega Drive's, but I object. If the GG version retains what makes the original fun to play, then you could say it is a "minimalist" version. Smaller screen, fewer pixels, littler music, less action: the games balances itself by

I feel like this game would be almost perfect if I could just use a shoulder button or something to swap shooting modes. Maybe just hold L to lock yourself in place like in Metroid Dread. Otherwise, I’m just discovering this recently and it’s been great.

One of the best multiplayer coach coop games in terms of run n gun shooters :) Never played on expert but impressive if not unfair on how far Treasure went there! Also: Y U NO mention Smash Daisaku is M.Bison/Vega from Street Fighter? x)

You have to play it on expert the boss battle against seven force on expert is one of the best boss rushes you ever have in your entire life if you into boss rushes at all whatsoever then the fight against sevenfolds this way is that in fact I play on expert solely to play 7/4 first to see if I can beat him with only using 100 HP

the two main issues are as o f the time the weapon select , such as locking in your first choice and not able to switch between ALL the weapons ( that was added in the 3dS port ) Also the weapons were pretty imbalanced, single laser is literally worthless ( challenge : complete the game with single laser only ) and lightning saber has the highest dps as well as destroying bullets, you could go fire+chaser but that only works in fixed efficently I am sure they wanted to put more time into it but the 7 stages are pretty short overall , and there are some spots you might get stuck on if you don't know certain tricks such as Black Fly you have to powerslam through the beams . and as you said the enemy grunts are virtually the same the entire playthrough, but the trick is the fact they attack in a variety of ways such as airpack fighters and minecarts, so thats cool. I own this and played since i was like 10 years old, is easily my top 5 favourite games of all time.# Oh man jetpack woulda been great on the MD

That was really good. You're getting better at these. I do want to try this game properly sometime. Though I've only played it for about 5 minutes on my emulator. But will need to get a classic controller. Or as an alternative, I might get it on 3DS if it does eventually get released on there. Nice work.

The other reason they left to form Treasure also because they felt Konami was way too biased towards Nintendo and felt Konami was being unfair with other competitors who had just as much potential to show long term!

When people ask me what's my favorite game on the Sega Genesis I always say gunstar heroes I love that game I can't play it on any level but the hardest level on expert if I played on any other level it just used too easy. But I'm a masochist like that because I love contra the alien wars on the hardest level Contra hardcore on the hardest level and cuphead on the hardest level.
