I wish people would stop pretending the printed solder circuit board was a good idea. If you have a CNC mill and you've already drawn the circuit board on a computer, you put a v bit in your CNC mill, and route the space you want breaks from a standard PCB copper clad boards.

That was an excellent interview/chat. To be honest, I think a big reason for BOM being so popular doesn't only come from them doing the mechanics (which are superb bits of engineering I might add), I think it's because they are VERY funny!

Compared to Binky it still stumps me that retropower has not ten times the subscribers… where is the algorithm when you need it ?!?!
@maralynthomson437513 күн бұрын
Two reasons; the brothers are devoid of humour and more importantly there is endless waffle and not enough footage of the actual fabrication. Lately there's been a tiny inset of time lapse for some work which is worth than useless. Stu is an artisan and his skills should be shown in depth. Also, the chessy handovers make me want to scream out loud.
@AccAkut19874 күн бұрын
@@maralynthomson4375 lol I have to agree, I actually like to put on their long videos to fall asleep to. It's a lot of waffling, but also just too much per episode to keep track of. All the builds are insane, but because there's like ten at once they don't feel unique. It's like reading ten thread on retrorides forums at once, switching after 5 minutes each

What I've learned is, build the shed first. If you start with an existing shed, you are only filling up space you will eventually need for something else. Things get lost or damaged, the process gets hampered by poorly designed work area. But, if you start with the shed you are able to design the project car as you build the space you are going to build the car in. Or bike, or a boat. This leaves you your original space free to do all the other fixes and things you need to do in your daily life. Once you have the designated space for your project, the project doesn't need to be rushed to free up space, things can be left where they need to be in order to continue the next time you are able to continue.

I live in Shropshire and they're right, everyone has a rally car. Except me of course, I go to trackdays and dragstrips with my Vauxhall powered Triumph Dolomites. As well as daily driving them. I watch Binky religeously, love the guys and have taken some hints from their methods and creed. But, on the whole I can't help thinking that Binky represents a complete antithesis to the old engineering "KISS principal" Keep It Simple, Stupid!" And I hated that flex drive for the ancillaries the moment I saw it! Richard made a great point, a car has to have a purpose and you have to want to drive it. MY Dolomites have entirely different characters, one is a lane racer, stripped out, light, no frills, Colin Chapman ethos. The other is a long distance cruiser long legged, quiet, softer riding, good on fuel, bangin stereo, electric windows, but still quick enough to upset the local boy racers. Grandad driving grandad's car and leaving them in the dust just never gets old (I'm 70!) SWMBO wants a classic Yank pickup, something from the early 50s. I prefer the later 50s or early 60s style. But I'm mature enough to understand the reality is not the dream. A pickup is too light at the tail to put the power down and a pickup is useless in the UK as anything you put in the back gets wet or stolen!
@jiminycricket987710 күн бұрын
Enjoyed that, great conversation between people who just love fucking about with stuff. May I shamelessly plug my own 205 project? Just hope I’ve got enough life left to get it done!! Cheers.
