I love these videos man, and as a GameStop employee, a lot of these packages are disgraceful, because I always make sure that the items that I pack up are shipped in the most secure way possible. Most GameStop employees are lazy, and are really mad when they have to do a shipment during business hours, even though its their job to make sure that the package is shipped out correctly and secured. Also, I do agree that GameStop does charge too much for most games that do not include the case and manual.
@tylerrocha35432 жыл бұрын
As someone else who also works at my local GameStop I feel you on that so much, I take so much pride in my work and when I ship out games, some of these hurt my soul, no cover art we can’t control that when we get those in trade but when some come in with NO CASE really hurts

I feel like Amazon might give you more options in pickings, it can also be a fun mystery on quality of such pickings.
@leeartlee9152 жыл бұрын
Amazon says exactly what condition the item comes in. It’s also wildly over priced. Oh, and shopping at Amazon is the 2022 equivalent to buying at Walmart in 1999: It’s done by brain dead consumers that don’t realize how bad those corporations are for our economy.

A word of advice as an ex GameStop employee, never order cartridge games (vita, DS, 3ds, older) if you care about cases. It will 90% of the time not come in one because the average consumer just threw them away. It was extremely rare for people to bring in cases with cartridge games for trade. It’s worth it to check their “retro” section frequently in person though. Most of the time their prices are not caught up with current pricing unless it’s extremely well known to be expensive like pokemon
@EvenSteven2 жыл бұрын
As a current employee even some people do not keep cases for current games. I get people trading in switch games and them just pull the game out of the case their system is in

Gamestop dont have a retro section where i live for years now
@hulkingbean49722 жыл бұрын
@@greencastle337 not all of them do anymore, it’s becoming less and less common as they start to focus on collectibles and stuff more. People trashed their games and at my store, all we had were shovelware for the Wii and DS, a ton of copies of sushi striker for 3ds, and scratched up common 360 games like call of duty and sports games. Nowadays Blu-ray is much more scratch resistant and people buy online and digital so much that what does still come in tends to hold up better. It’s just not worth it to carry “retro” as frequently. non retro stores all send out their retro trades to a designated retro store, and even still that retro section is usually pretty weak
@hulkingbean49722 жыл бұрын
@@EvenSteven yeah switch is the most common one for people to throw out cases since it’s cartridge and they just keep it in a bag or game holder. I usually had people literally pull their games out of their pockets. And not even the same pocket at that, they had to check every pocket to find it all. Newer disc games ps4, xbone, up) usually still had a case, but more often than not it had water damage, it was crushed, it was covered in gunk. It’s pretty crazy to me, even before I started collecting I respected the fact that these things are expensive so I don’t want to destroy them. Even a new sports game is $60 at launch, so why wouldn’t you take care of them?
@EvenSteven2 жыл бұрын
@@greencastle337 My store still has some PS3, 360, Wii and WiiU, not many but some. Since my store is one of if not the biggest square footage store, most other stores are small and do not have enough room to carry them. Even my store barely has enough space for them

I personally want to see more Gamestop videos I think most other places like Amazon don't really have this fun element of surprise that you never really know what you get that those Gamestop hauls do offer. It just is to fun to watch when you sometimes get the dirtiest crusty peed on copys of games ever in existence and other times you really get a good clean copy.
@leeartlee9152 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Going to a local game store? What’s gonna be fun about that? “Oh, here’s a copy of Super Mario 3D Land… and it has a case. I’ll buy that”. I’d find it more interesting to watch someone go shopping for groceries.

There are several retro stores that sell online, my favorite being Double Jump Games in Vancouver, Washington just over the river from Portland, but their website is currently offline for updates and to conserve their inventory for Portland Retro Game Expo which is next weekend from when this video was published. Locally from STL the only retro store that does online selling would be Trade N Games in Fenton, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. They've been around for 20 years, even though one of the busiest Gamestop's in St. Louis is a 5-minute drive away from them.

To start off, I really like seeing these GameStop hauls, great work on the videos! However, I think it’s safe to say that, for the most part, the whole situation of the case stuff happening is primarily due to the original owners of the game losing said cases. GameStop has no control over what games come with the case or not. From my experience, the game is always the priority. And, yes, I do understand wanting to have your games CIB and all but, again, most trades for retro stuff is game only for the most part. And, I feel GameStop should start implementing “game only” to all retro games because I’ve been noticing most retro collectors get upset that there is no case when it should already be the general consensus that a lot of people throw their cases away or just lose them. I don’t think it’s fair to 100% blame GameStop and say “this is the worst haul ever because there’s no cases” because, at the end of the day, the games that have been purchased are several years old. It’s not common for someone to come in and trade in games cib. Hell, I’ve even seen it happen with new generation titles. I, mostly blame the customers who trade it in. Hence why GameStop should just put game only on all retro games because they get blamed for it a lot.
@Hydra360ci2 жыл бұрын
And yet... when I used to buy new games from GS, they would always have the disk separate from the box.... They'd pull the box from behind them then dump the disk in from under the counter. Then have the nerve to sell it to me @ full price; as if the game was sealed...when it wasn't.
@itbelikedat78552 жыл бұрын
@@Hydra360ci yeah, I can understand why you feel that way. Honestly, I really don’t care about that as much as I’m buying the game to play it, not to keep it on display or reselling it. They put the cases out there to indicate that they have the game someone’s looking for. I think it’s catered towards new players and parents/kids. If they put out blank cases, I don’t think it would look at that appealing. Regardless, I’ve seen some GameStops try and help out with that by giving a 10% off but it varies. If GameStop had the game you’re looking for but only has 1 left then I’d say steer clear and try buying it elsewhere.
