There is nothing wrong with wanting to own something for the pure fact of owning it. A lot of those games may be ready available on the PS5 but thats the beauty of physical media or figures, cards or whatever collectable...the pure comfort of owning something. To get a bit real, We exchange our time and energy for money to survive and provide. Then half of it gets taken off us and put back into society and then the rest we spend on entertainment with nothing to show for it and nothing tangible. So in 2024, I don't want to hear someone excuse themselves for owning something real. Your collection is awesome Matty. Keep Collecting!

Finally reached a point of clarity and am “purging” my collection of things I don’t love. It’s easy to get sucked into it all and start picking up things to have them. It’s dope to see how tight your collection is and makes me feel even better about my decision to downsize 🙏

I worked for a Gamecrazy as a GM (eventually), and amassed an insane collection. That was after being a huge Saturn and import enthusiast, and getting my NES in 85. I had almost everything I wanted outside of a Vectrex display. ...yeah, my wife at the time sold it all for $100 when I was deployed in the Army. EX wife. It actually messed me up for a while. I didn't want to collect anymore. I got back into collecting with the Switch. It didn't feel as special at first...until I got kids. Now, it's great knowing I can share it with them.

Man, what you said about “Xbox One having the games” early on compared to the PS4 was so true to me at the time. Dead Rising 3, D4, and the Killer Instinct reboot all made me say “I NEED to get an Xbone”. There wasn’t much like that on the PS4 that enticed me at the time. After that things started going more downhill while PS4 got a ton of games.

Yeah people forget that for the first 2-3 years, the Xbox One had a bunch of killer exclusives, more so than the PS4 really. Stuff like Killer Instinct, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ryse: Son of Rome, Sunset Overdrive, Ori and the Blind Forest, D4: Dead Dreams Don't Die, Quantum Break, Rare Replay, Crimson Dragon (not a bad game), Forza Horizon 2/3, Forza Motorsport 5, Gears of War 4, etc. It wasn't until 2016 when Uncharted 4 released really that the PS4 really started to fire on all cylinders when it came to exclusives and Xbox One exclusives but the dust.

I am jealous, my Ma got me to throw out most my covers of games as she wanted less stuff to squeeze into moving boxes whenever we'd move around. A lot of games I loved ended up lost like my Nintendo 64 which was my first console before Playstation. 😅Noice collection btw. 💯 Some of my first games I completed were the series of Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper. Kingdom Hearts. Games like these helped me through tough times.

You hit the GameCube section and just NAILED me with two of my favorite childhood games. Scooby Doo: Night of 100 frights was awesome though I remember never being able to beat it. But when you dug out the Disney Xtreme Skate I couldn't believe it. I remember renting that game MULTIPLE times and absolutely loving it but never purchasing it. As I re-build my orginal xbox collection, both of those have become must haves that I haven't been able to find yet.

The only reason I have a big video game collection like this is because I never got rid of my childhood games and I started to collect games in large quantities over 15 years ago when prices were affordable. It is really hard to collect these days unless you have a ton of money you can afford to spend on video games. Prices are way too high these days to easily build a collection like this.
@danbauer3669

It is easier to buy all the games than it is to play all the games. The OG speed runners are people who only owned one game. Take it from someone who has collected far too much. I've got more than double what Matty is showing here. Don't aim for a large collection, aim for one that you can be proud of. Just buy the games that mean something to you, rather than buying games for the backlog, or buying games that someone said were good that you're never going to play.

I disagree. Maybe some of the PS2 one's, but everything newer is worthless. Those disc's have incomplete games on them that require internet connections and updates. PS2 and older is true retro gaming where the prices go up. PS3 and newer is modern gaming where the prices only go down. Oh, but Matty's setup is cool.

@@williamcarswell3012 yes, that is correct. It is okay to be wrong. And newer games will not have the kind of price swings that older games do. That's a fact that you can disagree with if you choose to be wrong. Not too many games PS3 and newer valued over $100 unless they are special releases. They go down in price after release and rarely ever go back up.

Cool collection, reminds me of my old setup. I had rows of nes, snes, GameCube, Dreamcast and ps1 games, which I sold to pay rent. I do collect for Wii, switch, PlayStation 3-4-5, and Xbox one (and 360 that will play on my one s) in my house I had two full rooms of games, then my wife and I both lost our jobs, ditched the house, and sold the games to survive, until we started working. That was 10 years ago. I was gonna collect all the ps5 games, but a lot are not great. My switch is mostly Mario and donkey Kong. May get Lies Of P when price goes down. Where are your cartridge games.

Silver, try to boot, black screen every time. Of course my GameCube is silver, so when I upgraded my PS2 copy to a GameCube copy, I ended up buying a Wii. Great collection! I still recommend DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 1 cuz of the PS2 memory card perks you get for playing 2 & 3 afterwards. The spines is so funny to me because it’s definitely a region thing. In the 🇬🇧 the PS2 spines were plain white with black text, and with the PS2 being my favourite system, I don’t mind the uniform, one colour spines for a system. The one thing I hate about the PS2 🇺🇸 spines is that the Playstation logo in the top corner having a random white square background where 🇬🇧 spines make way more sense having the Playstation logo with a black background.

happy new year :) first vid i see here i think lol, i've played hundreds of games, from a console perspective, maybe most and most fun with the N64, while a lot of the other series, my most slacked on maybe is the PS2 era, because I was poor that time, and now there's just way too much to catch up on. I did prioritize gaming when not school so during that PS2 I did have one with a very small library, loads of time on GTA SA lol. But aside that.. I was reminded the other day talking about games, a friend got upset at me he was abrivating something about TLOH, and I was like.. The Last of Hoes? xD jokingly but seriously not knowing what he meant. he hates TLOU so he wasn't sure why he talk to me after that lol. but it was the legend of heroes mentioned here, i'm sure it's a good game, I haven't even played chrono trigger, but I spend more time making my own rpg these days, I could be missing out, but, there's a lot to play ): nice collection though.

If you need a hidden gem PS1 game it’s Skullmonkeys. It’s a claymation side scroller and it’s one of my favorite games of all time. It’s extremely unique and there’s really nothing like it

Retro rebound, consider The Bouncer for your PS2 collection. Square Enix style visuals in a brawler game that scratches a similar itch as the brawler PS2 game (Urban Rain) you featured in this video.

Seeing stuff like this always makes me want to get into collecting. I have a decent collection but I traded a lot of stuff in when I was younger and now have a random assortment of games with no boxes and boxes with no games. Maybe I'll take it slow and allow myself like $50 per paycheck to start slowly filling out my collection.

I did the same and don't get discouraged seeing ppl with big collections compared to yours. I started collecting when I was a teenager but didn't really ramp up my buying until years later. I currently own over 500 games now but which I think is close to the same amount in this vid but he could have more.

It's nice to have a retro game store in the area as well. I'm in Tampa Bay so we have plenty around me to get started with a nice collection.
