I redid the drum brakes on my jeep last year. Man getting those springs back on is fiddly work. A bit of heat on the inner part of the drum (where it touches the hub) helped get things moving when I took mine off. Take care, Jay

My next move was to use heat Jay but lucky enough it came off. Cheers Martin

Another great video Martin, looks like you could have had some water ingress its taken the bonding off the pads onto the shoes. Yes you are right you could have backed off the adjuster but if the shoes were stuck to the drum then only a bit of persuasion with the club hammer would have moved the drum. Look forward to part 2 Martin keep the great vids coming !. Cheers, Jeff.

+cabdriveruk I ordered new drums as well Jeff, the set was only £75.00 so I thought I might as well do it. Cheers Martin

I was going to say that it should have a slot to back off the adjuster but you mentioned it. I have had pads stuck (rusted) to the drum. The drum rusted on around the bolts. After wire brushing the drum and the rest of the parts I also applied some white lithium grease plus some Never sez on the threads. I just had to do all brakes front and back on my 2007 Kia, fun fun fun.

My rear brake drums was so rusty on one of my old cars that i painted them up but didn't know how to remove them until now. You can put new ones but start to rust after a month or two. Your mechanic skills get better every video. Who needs to taught when you can self teach eh?

+michael jagger I,m putting on new drums as well so everything should be good. Cheers Martin

Nasty looking shoes Martin . Perhaps a smear of copper slip on the , part of the drum that bites the hub. Hope it is not to long a wait for the bits. Cheers Pete.

+Peter Froud I've ordered new drums as well all for £75.00. Might as well for that money Pete. Cheers Martin

Sounds like a deal mate. Some part of the shoe must have jammed the drum up.

I had my drums off last week to do the handbrake cable. I found that once the drum had moved a few mill, I could tap a lever into the space between the hub and the drum to drift the drum off, just rotate the drum a few times as you tap the lever in to ensure it comes off easily. I have posted a video on how I did it.

I hate doing drum brakes, disk pads are so much easier to change. Nothing went wrong today, you're on a roll. Now the question is, going to Lincoln Ford again?

+Brian Percival Haha, no I am not bri lol. New shoes and drums already on order for £75.00 Would hate to think what Ford would charge.

My 2006 fwd made a godawful noise while driving today, and the handbrake lever is now stuck down and rear wheel locked solid, managed to drag it into a layby (at least it's fwd) Any idea what's going on?....if the shoes had welded themselves to the drum then the handbrake lever would surely be slack? It's like the handbrake cable has suddenly become a lot shorter :-( Help!
@retrorestore3 жыл бұрын
You'll need to get the rear wheels up in the air bud to see what wheel is sticking.

@@retrorestore Yeah, It's a bugger, about 5 miles from my house next to a busy road, be impossible to tow and a challenge to get on a recovery vehicle, it's got the best part of 2000kg of wrapped asbestos in the back too :-( I might try cutting the handbrake cable just to shift it to home

You should have tried harder when you tried to release it , try reverse then forwards again and again, worked for me, tip , park with the handbrake off !

75 Squid. 37.50 a pop. Did you say it passed MOT with them brakes? I'd change the bearings while your in, fuel economy. Friction = Fuel. It's not just the brakes, it;s the hardware that gets clogged up. The garages don't change the small cheap stuff that causes squeaks.
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
+69Phuket Yes it did pass like that. I know what you mean about changing whilst they are stripped but i'll leave them this time as we've spent loads on parts lately. Cheers Martin
@69Phuket8 жыл бұрын
+retrorestore Fair enough Guv. :) But the MOT guy's job is is to check the fracking breaks as priority. Or am i a daft bugger?

69Phuket They did pull up ok but it was the handbrake being stuck on this wheel that drew me to this issue.

Aaaah. You are sooo far into it. You should have just pulled the slave cylinders, cleaned them and degreased them and refitted them with rubber grease.
