I wanted to compare two upscalers for retro gaming: The OSSC & the Retroscaler 2x or simply put a Retrotink 2x clone! Here's the results using the highest settings available using Component cables! I tested a mixture of PAL & NTSC software! Enjoy!

I just got a retro scaler 2x for 37$ U.S. I need to use it as a passthrough using my Retrovision component cables on my Saturn and RGB modded Genesis so that I can connect the HDMI out to a Morph 4k input, since the Morph4k currently does not have an analog bridge available. This video gives me hope that it will work well. I wont be using the scaling features, just a passthrough so that the Morph does all the upscaling on its own. Its just until Pixel FX releases the analog bridge. Appreciate you uploading this!

This device should work although bear in mind that I used 2x throughout because with Sega Saturn & Genesis the 240p signal might be too low depending on the display used :) If you do get it & use passthrough mode & nothing gets displayed, try the 2x mode for a 480p output :) Passthrough with Saturn games with Hi-Res modes (480i) should work straight away though :)

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Thanks again for showcasing this product, you saved me a lot of research time and money. Just received my Retroscaler2x today and it works great as a passthrough device to the Morph 4K. And to think I was going to spend $140+ on a RT2XPro for it to do the exact same thing. Of course, when Pixel FX releases their analog bridge, I will indeed be purchasing it and will no longer need to use this as a passthrough. The Morph 4k was 275$ and I will be getting a discounted price of $25 for their analog bridge when it becomes available as an early adopter of their product. Things I'd like to note in case others are curious... I was able to get a signal to the Morph 4k only when using the 2x mode as you mentioned above, when using both my Sega Saturn and triple bypass RGB modded Sega Genesis, however this produces an incorrect aspect ratio which you can correct with the Morph 4K by adjusting the scaling options. After some quick tinkering, I noticed that once the Morph 4K picked up the signal in 2x mode, I could switch the Retroscaler 2x back into a passthrough without the 2x feature and this allows the perfect aspect ratio to be sent into the Morph which does a beautiful job of upscaling pixel perfect into 4K without the need for adjustment. I know the creators of the Retroscaler 2x mention sound isn't so great, but I feel like the sound feeding into my amplifier using the HD Retrovision component cables is coming through very crystal.

Danm. PS2 looks awesome on OSSC.

Yeah, if only it had Motion Adaptive deinterlace. Though ive heard that OSSC PRO should be having it
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
It looks better than what most people think although, I've since switched to passthrough mode for interlaced content & allowed OBS via the Yadif 2x setting to deinterlace the footage & it looks even better in my opinion:) I have several recent videos showing this:)
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
I wish the OSSC had it, luckily the Pro does indeed have it but, these days I use the OSSC in passthrough for interlaced content, using OBS's Yadif 2x to deinterlace the content:) Much better!

S 15:48 15:52 15:53 adly you have to be lucky if your tv accepts 480i passthru without butching the image and adding lag. A tv like my LG does well without even bothering to filter it. It's just about straight up vga quality.

You're doing some amazing work here for people interested in these products. I love my OSSC thanks to your recommendation. I almost got a retro scaler 2 x because of s-video and the N64. I don't have an N64 anymore, but I'll think I'll get an RGB modded one if I do get one to use with my OSSC. Though I need to be careful or else I'm gonna get tempted by the retrotink 5 x. Have you ever been tempted by that?
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
I got the OSSC in 2020, long before the Tink 5x or 4K were even made :) I of course want a Tink 5x but the price of one & import charges means I cannot get one yet :) Still love my OSSC & I'm glad you are enjoying yours :)

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial I didn't realise they didn't sell it in the U.K. I can't afford it either so I'll hold off for now and dream about the 4k variant!
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
Yes this is the main problem & people assume the UK has it when it does not :) Quite a few people don't realise we can't just drop that amount when other priorities take place xD One day I'll get the 5x!

OSSC is clearly the winner, however, I have a medium sized console collection but the family Wii lives inside the TV stand where sticky little fingers can’t reach… I’m thinking a retroscaler 2x would be cheap enough to leave connected to the Wii.. then an OSSC for the other consoles as I only set them up one at a time.. hmmmmmm 😅 thanks for the video
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial5 күн бұрын
Ah it would be a good idea & the Retroscaler 2x is still a good upscaler for the right price 😊 Glad you found the comparison useful :)

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial they’re very cheap on ali express right now too… 30 quid!

Oooo if so, definitely snatch it up for that price! :)

I got hold of a retroscaler 2x for free, and by and large was quite happy with it. I don't think I have a green hue on my screen. The retroscaler on this video looks a bit too smooth for my liking, was this done with smoothing on or off? I would say OSSC wins hands down
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
They are cheaper clone products so quality might differ but on the whole the green hue is minor :) The smoothing was turned off, I hate smoothing, looks natural :) Also bear in mind 2x vs 4x & 5x will always make the 2x scale look blurrier :)

@RetroWez3 ай бұрын
Also how do you get it so that the OSSC doesn't cut off the top hand bottom on 5x. Is it just on a game by game basis? I have to be honest i only use 4 x as a result.
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
You can minimise it by using 1600x1200 but sadly no matter what settings you use, the 5x mode will always cut some information from the top & bottom of the screen, that's by design :) Usually it doesn't bother me & the effect is less pronounced with NTSC software as apposed to PAL software :)
@RetroWez3 ай бұрын
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial thanks for replying. I dunno why but it does bother me, so I'll stick to 4x I think!
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
4x is still a great mode & I understand the reason :) No matter what, as long as you enjoy what you see, keep using your desired modes 😁

it looks like overseas knockoff nonsense. Ill stick with the real deal from the original creator, retrotink.
@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial3 ай бұрын
It's not that bad, although I agree to stick with the original if possible. Here in the UK, a lot of Retrotink products aren't sold here, making it difficult to acquire them :)
