Foi pq a tectoy ou praticamente sega no Brasil trabalhava perto do estúdio do Mauricio de Souza (o criador da Turma da Mônica). Ai a tectoy e o Maurício de Souza quiseram fazer uma parceria e deu nisso. Mas não foi só isso q eles fizeram não. Eles tbm fizeram outras coisas. Mas já q é só isso a pergunta, aqui está a resposta. :)

I begin to think this game's intro is similar to Castlevania Symphony of The Night years later. Here's example: 1. Started at the last journey part of previous installement that inaccurate on in-stage structure from before 2. Playable Hero is already OP 3. Different set of attacks for its final boss & easier to defeated 4. Rewrites its established good ending 5. Set the beginning of "Metroidvania" gameplay for next subsequence part of the game.

To a foreigner, this will be hard to explain, but here it goes: When this game came to Brazil, Tectoy, which was the Brazilian distribuitor of Sega's products, made a collaboration with Maurício de Souza Studios, a famous brazilian comic studio. That resulted in the games's characters being replaced with the main characters from Turma da Mônica (Monica's Gang in English), and the game was fully translated to Portuguese too, but with some changes to fit the new theme of the game. The game's name was changed to "Turma da Mônica: O Resgate" (Monica's Gang: The Great Rescue). Tectoy did this with some other games too, including other Wonder Boy games. The girl in red is Mônica, and that thing in her hand is her blue rabbit plushie, Sansão (Samson). In the comics, she gets mad very easily and hits whoever annoyed her with the rabbit. The boy with a gun is Chico Bento, a typical hillbilly. To fit the dragon's flames, they gave him a shotgun to fire his enemies, tho there isn't any part in the original comics where he uses a shotgun. Yeah, i gotta say, the title screen looks pretty crappy. In contrast to that, the sprites look good, in my opinion.

Never had the opportunity to watch my bro on Zelda (We never had a Nintendo console until I got my Gamecube) but I watched him so many times on this game. I knew I couldn't play for shit and I wanted to know what was ahead in the game so I was happy to watch. I watched for hours. He only ever got up to lionman and could never get past that point. It's very rewarding to that now I'm not six, I've played through the game at least five times, classic and modern style, surpassing the lionman stage easily. To this day, Wonder Boy III is in my list of favorite games of all time. I will probably replay it again soon because it's so good but I always choose the remake now. I just wish that the autosave feature of the remake had never been implemented. I like strategic saving because that requires skill. I did not like the password system of the Master System either though, that can piss off; regular saving systems can bypass that: there is no need for autosave.

Basically, Monica has been kidnapped by the Mecha Dragon (called here "Dragão Cospe-Fogo" or literally "Firespit Dragon") at the beggining of the game. Then, her friends step in to rescue her, using Franklin's teleporter to get to Monster Land. Bu the teleporter can only send one person at a time.

I have so much love for this game. The Master System version is the one I played the most but I also replayed Dragon's Curse when it came out on the Wii Virtual Console, and obviously the lovely remake.

I just love seeing the ridiculous story for Dragon's Curse. The Master System version is still probably my favorite version. I grew up playing that game. The music in it is perfect. Me and my brother played this game so much, and it still never lost it's fun factor. I did but the remake version. I think they did a fantastic job on it. The new artwork looks great. Sometimes I'll switch to the old school graphics, but usually I play with the new stuff. The music though, it's the old music all the way. I don't hate the new music, but for me, the old music is just... timeless. I've never really been a fan of the FM music though. It's cool to switch it up sometimes, but the SMS original is the best.

Master System is the original version and remains the best IMO. The PC Engine port runs at a higher frame rate and adds a background during most boss fights but aside from that, the graphics aren't much improved and in fact, the main character has been butchered when he is in his Hu-Man, Piranha-Man and Lion-Man forms. Also, while the soundtrack rendition is pretty good for the most part, it's not as catchy as the Master System version IMO and my favorite tune, "Side-Crawler's Dance", has been ruined with a final part that turned out really bad. And the Game Gear port is full of problems. The screen is cropped, the level design is simplified, some features are lacking... Only good thing is the boxart of the Japanese version (I wish that the Master System version had that too!). The remake though, I didn't play that one, but it looks interesting and to be able to swap with the Master System version's original style is a great feature!

I prefer the old graphics but people have different tastes - and of course not everyone has access to a Master System to play the original.

PC Engine version is excellent as well - there really isn't a bad version of this game to be fair. Master System all the way for me - the soundtrack is amazing and it fits the Master System like a glove.

That's the exact reason behind it, and it made a lot of sense at the time. We're talking late 80's/early 90's, when we as kids didn't have internet yet, and very few people spoke English. So TecToy (Sega's partner in Brazil for licensing/distribution) created a few "Brazilian" versions of games, usually reskining them, using characters that were popular among kids at the time (Monica's Gang, El Chapulin Colorado, Sapo Chulé, TV Colosso) and translating/adapting the texts. Not to mention they fully translated the first three Phantasy Star games (a reason why it was the first RPG series played by many of us as kids). This helped make Master System and Mega Drive/Genesis popular consoles here.

I did play the master system version which I didn't like make it to the last stage the first time but I didn't get past captain dragon the first but the second time with the crystal weapons and yes that did work but the gameplay doesn't show that it's located at the top of the tower in the town but only as mouse man

It does. Mauricio de Sousa (creator of Monica's Gang) himself wrote a short comic tie-in to the game at the time. Long story short: Mônica got kidnapped by the dragon, so her friends go to her rescue one by one (hence the transformation after the bosses).

@@guillermogazanol1729: I am Brazilian, and would like to see what the rest of Latin America has to offer in terms of cartoons (although I've read a quite a lot of comics from there). There's a cable channel, "Gloobinho", which airs some ones from Europe (mainly from France and Italy), but nothing from our neighborhood. In recent times, I've only seen some shorts by Liniers (author of "Macanudo", among others), the "Condorito" movie and an Argentinian one for five-or-less-year-olds named "Mini Beat Power Rockers" (which I would've never know it existed if it weren't my kids!).

Don't say something what you don't know the reason or how it was created. I'm Brazilian and I know: as the brazilian public wouldn't have an interest for the game (RPG wasn't popular in the country, until the first Phantasy Star because it was translated to portuguese), Tectoy made a "mod" (I don't know how I can call this version) with only alterated graphics (Monica's Gang), alterated history, a HQ to explain more the history before the game and a translation to portuguese language. I played it and it was very good, very similar to the original version. Search informations before commenting........
