I remember watching Top Cat and all of the other Hanna-Barbera cartoons every Saturday morning. I'm going to go with the Atari ST as the best port overall, with the C64 one a close second.

I wonder why this game was never ported to home consoles. I could see this game making it on NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis.

Publishing games on consoles was more expensive and this game wasn't good enough to justify publishing cost. It might had worked on NES, but it was definitely below expectations for a SNES and Sega Genesis game. This game probably had poor sales on Amiga and Atari ST, so it wasn't even ported to PC DOS and porting such game from M68000 based Amiga and Atari ST to Sega Genesis should be trivial.

C64 is the best 8bit version, this time the C64 colors works great with the game, resolution is low as usual but it moves fast enough and has music, Speccy has the best resolution as usual, much better than C64 and Amstrad, and moves faster. 16bits versions are AWESOME.

C64 only really good 8-bit conversion. Both 16 bit ones are well done. However, while the Amiga has better music and sound, Atari ST has the best graphics and colors.

@@retrodave79 There's nothing the ST can do in color graphics that the Amiga cannot display. Most of the time games are direct port from ST to Amiga or cater to the lowest spec which is the ST. If the Amiga looks different the programmers went out of their way to make it so. Like you, I see no appreciable difference between the ST and Amiga versions. I like the Amiga music more.

The Amiga version looks the best, while I'd have to say that I prefer the music on the C64 version. The SID chip rocks again.

@@retrosutra Yo soy del 79 también y la recuerdo, los comics eran de mediados de los 80, creo que del 84/85. He buscado el doblaje a Latino y se hizo a mediados de los 80, y ese fue el que nos llegó a nosotros, como todo lo de Barbera.

@@retrodave79 Vaya, qué mala memoria tengo, jajaja, y eso que no habían demasiados canales ni dibujos animados en esa época. En cuanto a los cómics, yo creo que no leía otra cosa que no fuera Mortadelo y Filemón (que, por cierto, aún conservo).

That would have been a design choice by the people making the game. Dunno why it was so common on the Amiga.

I'm glad they went for the colorful and clashy appearance for the Spectrum. By this point in the life of the system, everything release looked like monochromatic shit with too much detail, which made games hard to play on a RF connector, and extremely unappealing. Early Speccy games, with worse sprites and animations and all were so much better than latter games because at least they were visually stimulating.

Developing/Publishing a console game was more expensive vs a computer game if the Top Cat computer game wasn’t a good enough standard it didn't justify the cost the game possibly didn't sell well or it had weak sales on Amiga, Amstrad, Atari ST, C64, ZX Spectrum
