The GBA version is essential just a port of the NES version. The reason the sprite looks that way was cause the PocketNES emulator that it used squish the screen down to GBA aspect ratio, had it kept it 4:3 like the others it would had look better on TV but terrible on GBA.

I didn't have an NES so I really discovered the game with Super Mario All Stars on the SNES. I'm playing the hell out of it again now that it's out on Switch. That said, over the years, I've come to appreciate the original more. I always come back to it, it's just perfect.

@@nintendogp2017 That was part of their terrible Wii Virtual Console stance, that we should live the atrocities of playing in 50 Hz all over again because we did in the first place so we would be nostalgic for slower and squished games. Hopefully they replaced that with *checks notes* playing games with an ugly dark grey background you can't turn off.

My favourite is definitely the Super NES version. It's the main one I grew up with, and it has welcome enhancements in terms of presentation and quality of life. Its 16-bit graphics complete with vivid backgrounds look beautiful even by today's standards, and those graphics are delightfully paired with enhanced arrangements of the original game's music. On top of that, it actually features saves and continues allowing you to restart at the beginning of each world rather than at the beginning of the game every time. As iconic as the 8-bit original is, I think Nintendo needs to show its 16-bit remake of _Super Mario Bros_ a lot more love.

@retrosutra: The reason why I prefer the Famicom disk version of Super mario bros. the lost level mario will have an easier time compare to the all-stars SNES version, because the Famicom behave like the NES and if mario face his on the koopa and mario still have the vertical downward motion it will stomp on the koopa, while if you do the exact same thing on the SNES version All-stars you will not take damage but phase through the koopa. in Both the nes version and the all-stars version you cannot stomp on koopa and goomba under water, but you can in super mario bros.35 but their his not point to hit since the timer you gain does not increase when you chain theme under water since your always in the air if I see it correctly.

GIAN SA Yeah, I believe that the reason smb2j was so hard was because the developers enjoyed the more challenging levels they made for vs smb, and decided to make a whole game of levels like that.

If you beat the original Super Mario Bros., the game got harder the next time you restart cause Bowser change all the Goombas into Buzzy Beetles and all the enemies now walk faster. That change also inspired Super Mario Bros. 2.

By the way, Super Mario Bros 35 isn't just Super Mario Bros (as in the NES original) played against 34 other players. The game shown here is actually a remake of the said game played against 34 other people. You might be thinking "What are you talking about? It's the same game!" Well, actually, there're some changes, one of them is obvious: if you get hit as Fire Mario, you go back to Big Mario instead of small Mario like in the NES original. This is a change that neither the SNES remake nor the GBC remake changed. One change tbat the latter DOES include is the removal of the minus world. Interestingly, the Game and Watch that released under a month and a half later DID include the minus world. Go figure.

Nes/famicom cartridge ver: the iconic FDS ver: The same as cartridge but different because they added more levels on minus world (the infamous SMB glich) PlayChoice-10 ver: The same but this version you playinf with arcade kabinet also have different Color pallete because the PlayChoice-10and nes have different PPU (picture prosessing Unit) because nes PPU doesn't support RGB but PlayChoice-10 support RGB VS. SMB ver: the same as pc10 ver but with different level and more difficulty FDS(ANSMB): the same as FDS ver but with SMB 2. JP ver engine and special edition because Nintendo Collaboration with Fuji television Snes ver or SMAS: i love this ver with 16bit Graphic GBC ver: the best at the time because you can play original SMB on the go but for now... Not so much because screen zoom

Personally my favourite ones are the 3DS, Wii u and GBA, here's the reasons: 1: The GBA version had a better sprite for Super Mario [Super Mushroom Mario], it looked way accurate to the actual Mario design from that era but to be honest, it could've been improved. 2: I like the Wii U Luigi port because it's Luigi and i love Luigi, but i don't even get why they made the levels reversed, i don't think there was a reason or point of why Nintendo had decided to do this. 3: The 3DS one could've been improved, plus, i like that HD sprite vibe, i get it's mostly because of the screen size but yeah, Nintendo could've NOT sped it up.

I’m sorry, but I have to correct you. 1) the sprites are exactly the same as the NES version, just stretched. 2) Luigi U gave Luigi his physics from Super Mario Bros 2 and the whole point of the game is to play an alternate and harder version of SMB. 3) the 3DS port is exactly the same as the NES. What this video is showing is Speed Mario Bros, a challenge in Ultimate NES Remix.
