For some reason I can't get enough of your voice, and it's not just the accent or sound of it, it's the way you express yourself and how your passion shines through even though the subject may seem a bit mundane at first glance. I never thought I'd be interested in the history of a radio and the importance of sheds and garages, yet here I am, at the end of the video and still intrigued. In fact, it's my third video in a row and I will stay around for more. Please keep making videos like this, I'll be waiting for more!

Thank you Maia so much for your kind words! I'm a fast talker with plenty of mispronunciations but it seems to keep people's attention! I actually work at a whisky Distillery as a tour guide & video maker there, so if anyone ever needs to hear more from me I can always be found there!

I’m rocking the 1970’s radio called THE PARTY BOY in my kitchen., A 1980’s black Panasonic sound system in the front room (audio sounds amazing) and a 70’s radiogram Ferguson 3367. All have a lovely deep, warm sound and tone and a romantic glow that is hard to it into words. Usually out lasts modern tat.

Well done Calum! Love your videos! Reminds me of the old radios I have in my work shop and garages. Both purchased in the late 80s and still providing listening pleasure to this day.

I remember "watching" Michigan University football in my Dad's garage on a 12 in screen tube TV. When you first turned it on the image would be a 16th of an inch tall horizontally but as it warmed up slowly the image would get larger. The sound always worked flawlessly from the get go, so in a way that shaped my on going love for radio vs TV sports broadcasts.

In America we call that "musical note slider" tone. I'm not sure if its different around the world. My dad has had the same clock/radio from the early 80s in his garage/work shop my entire life. It still works. It's been flashing 12:00 for probably the entire two and half decades it's been in that same exact spot on the same exact shelf.

My old shed radio was a Philips Boom Box with BASS BOOST! It had a cassette player as well. I had it plugged into the lighting, so when the lights were on, I was Rock'n it!

That connector would be one of the variety of DIN connectors and is also used for MIDI, and PC XT/AT keyboards. XLR is typically 3 pin.

I have a 1930-40 radio that was basically just a shell that I used to put parts from a portable Bluetooth radio that had a completely dead battery in that I have in my house. For my garage I have a custom built stereo system system that I originally built around an old car stereo, some car speakers and a single hifi speaker. As time went on I’ve added various style of inputs into it, it first started off with the cassette player that was included on the car stereo which I used in conjunction with a cassette to 3.5mm adapter, I then added a CD player, the third thing added onto was an 8 track to play cassettes that I had found in the attic and I’m currently planning on adding a Bluetooth adapter to it

I clearly remember my Dad had an RCA portable "tube" powered radio that could run on a couple large batteries. These batteries were not rechargeable but would last quite a while at normal volume. Dad was a "do it yourself" guy and he used it when working outside on the house or the the old Chevy. This was back in the 50's in Ohio, USA. I did a Google search and saw a few similar to the one he had.

Philips are Dutch and the connector is referred to as DIN. That socket is a 5pin DIN 180’. The slider is a tone control (agreed not a very good one)

I suspect that music note slider is really a balance between left track, right track, and balance (50/50). If you sample old Beatles song, there often have music on one track and vocals on another. You could essentially use a slider like that to add/remove voice or add/remove instruments.

I've got two 'old' Philips radios. One from a thrift shop, the Philips 970 but defective after a few months probably due to old capacitors. And a Philips 750 still working that I got from someone who didn't want it anymore.

In India it was available as Philips Skipper set without long wave. It was priced the same as a month's salary of a high level govt officer, but ironically own by well to do shopkeepers. As a transistor set it was wonderful, but lost its salt when IC circuits introduced.

4:31 -- The symbol (a treble clef) indicates the function. That is what is called "treble" and the function is to adjust boost to different frequency ranges. All the way up (10) should offset the produced sound frequencies to favor treble, whereas the all the way down (0) is the reverse where bass is favored. 8:27 -- that lock of hair so near the spinning chuck is probably not a good idea...

You don't sound as if you realize it, but these days, anyone who wants to be published can be published. See, decades ago, being published meant a fairly large investment by a publisher, since they had to both hire a company to print both the pages, and the cover that all hardbound books had back then, along with having to advertise it. Today, it never once needs to be anywhere close to paper, or bindings. It's this miraculous thing called digital. Books work as well as KZbin videos, in this new digital realm. You can self-publish through Amazon, if you don't know how to build your own website. If I sound as if I'm being a bit sarcastic, that's because I am. Self-publishing is extra-ordinarily easy, once one already has a website. Give it a shot. I'd be willing to bet it pays considerably better than making KZbin videos, at least for the average Yahoo, as they used to sometimes say (and without the capitalization, of course).
