Torque-focused gearing actually places the least strain on the motor. Speed-focused gearing is what wears down the motor.

I guess it is a modular prototyping/modelling part but can't for the life of me think what the name of it is so that I can look up the prices on ebay. Also, are there technical names for the bits&bobs that slide into them and a brand name or something that describes the whole kit and all the gubbings that can be attached? Many Thanks ( Apologies, I did look on his website, but could not find any clues as to what are are known as )

@@benholmquist3589 Hi Ben, Yes I did find it out and went down a right rabbit hole of 101 parts and accessories. They are know by different names but generally can be found by searching on ' t-Slot Aluminium Profile Extrusion'. A similar but different product is the 't-track t-slot system' which is mainly used on workbenches to slide things like routers about. I also found out that the cheapest prices and best deals tend to be ali express, especially if you buying multiples or large discount packs. Shop around would be my advice as there are quite a few sharks out there charging up to x3 for the same part that can be found on the chinese ali site.

Would this little motor draw the same amount of energy and power to lift that weight vs using just a motor designed to lift that weight? what are the energy usage comparison
@purpleomlet2 жыл бұрын
The smaller motor would use less energy. It will only ever be under ~2kg of stress before it gives up. The energy used by the motor never increases since it's not the component that's doing the heavy lifting. A larger motor with the capacity to pull ~58kg would need to be made of stronger materials which would be heavier and use more energy to move. I may be completely in the wrong about this, but I'm fairly certain that's right.

I do not get it. Why when the gear ratio is 3:1, we do not get 1.8*3 but 3.6 kg and so on?
@retsetman96983 жыл бұрын
That calculation is just theoretical. In practically, we don’t get never 100% efficiency. Maybe the efficiency of that gears are 80-90% in industry but in this setup(3D printed etc.) the efficiency is always too low. There are a lot of things change the efficiency.

It's really interesting this design. Would you think we could reuse the energy putting a generator (dynamo) in the same part where the object its lifted in order to reuse the energy, or will be more interesting to recuperate the energy from the first and littlest gear. It's the multiplication of all the gear ratio. 50:10 x 50:10 x 50:10 = 125. Using 3 pairs of gear with 50:10 ratio is equal to using 1 pair of gear with 1250:10 ratio.

The design of the bases and the building supporting the shaft and bearings were not in their best condition, because when you expect more power from an engine, you have to imagine a stronger bearing building for it, the load increases, the building should be stronger .. same as dodge ram vs Nissan Micra...
