The return of serve is often neglected in practice. This is why I devoted an entire video on how to practice this very important stroke. Remember, half of the points in matches start with the return of serve. 0:01 Reflex Return 1:51 Coach/Partner serves close to service line 2:16 Coach/Partner serves flat 2:39 Coach/Partner serves slice 2:48 Coach/Partner serves kick 3:11 Return and Offense 3:51 Return and Defense

Nice session!! Agreed, very under-practiced “shot” for players. And the best part was your student giving you served to work on your returns. 😊

These drills are great! If I can I could make a suggestion; I would say one the first drill it would be beneficial to use a shortened back swing. I feel like this would make for a more "match like feel" since you wouldn't typically take that full of a swing on a return. Such a great video! Great coaching for a great player.

From a visual standpoint your baseline flat serve is even faster than the half-court overhead arm drops you were giving her 😅

Very interesting training approach. Maybe you can have another video on how to deal with a very slow serve (my opponents' level :) and how to kill it. I either hit a slow, loopy, top spin or fast and hard ball that goes 10 feet beyond the base line :) Thank you!

Enrique Morin I was very fortunate to have had a Tennis Pro who built my game from the ground strokes up. Having played at a world class level he believed in attacking the second serve when ahead on points and the first serve when ahead in games. Once you have solid ground strokes on both sides it is to your advantage to intimidate the server when the score is in your favor. I found it easier to develop an aggressive/ intimidating return game than a big serve being 5’ 6” 140 lbs. I was coached to move forward and hit the ball on the rise. This has several advantages. Use your opponent’s own pace on flat serves, decreases the effect on spin serves, and givers the server less time to react. Mix it up with returns cross court, down the line and straight back at servers body. You can turn the tables on the server and make them start wondering what your going to do with the return. So when it’s 15 -30,40 or add out move forward and go for it. Don’t wait just Dominate is the motto that I employ now that I am teaching and coaching.

These are all drills that players can do with a practice partner. I directed programs and taught tennis at a club and for a USTA community tennis association for many years. The reason that many players never improve is that they never practice or attend a clinic or take a lesson. The warm up for 10 minutes then play sets using the same tactics and technique. If you want to improve your skill set practice with these drills once a week. On a second day take an hour to hit every shot in the book then play so tie breakers for a half hour. On a third day play practice sets and constantly use a new skill/ tactic. Like serving and volley, chip and charge every second serve, attack every short ball and advance to net. You have to be willing to practice and not worry about losing practice sets/ match.

Dead right. I play mixed doubles in a very low division of our local league. Match results nearly always depend on the quality of the female serve. If the lady can't serve well you hardly get a chance on the net.

She has a large backswing for a return of serve. :O
@svarodzic3 жыл бұрын
0:37 she should clean up her backhand... the racquet goes waaaaay too much behind. And one more thing is that no matter this reflex drill I don't believe you can be successful with that type of take-back on a serve return. There is simply no time for a swing like this.
