A lot of people don't know this, but Max Rebo's arms were originally designed to be his legs. What look like ears were supposed to be flippers. He was supposed to be sitting on top of his keyboard on cushions, playing the keys with his feet. This detail was lost when Kenner came out with the Max Rebo Band playset, and the designer of the action figures gave Max a corpulent body and a pair of stubby legs and feet.
@tetsuoswrath Жыл бұрын
Thank God for Kenner then. That looks terrible the original way.
@nicholasegg02844 ай бұрын
It was also because in the original blueprint, two people were supposed to play Max Rebo. However, they downgraded to just one performer, and the legs now resembled arms as they cut off from the shoulders, not from the glutes. Because of this, the Kenner toyline pretty much made their own canon by giving Max Rebo a lower half, officially giving him arms and legs.

Seeing this makes you really appreciate Femi Taylor's dancing. What we see in the original film is considerably shorter. My understanding is that Taylor had said that there was no choreography given to her for this, so she had to just come up with her own dance for this. She was fantastic. Love the start with that nearly seductive backwards walk she makes.
@blacky93able Жыл бұрын
Yes, I've always wondered if Femi Taylor and George Lucas relied on some kind of real dance to do the Oola number, or was it made up or improvised! And, I wish they had translated the dialogue between Oola and Jabba (although what he wanted from her was a mile away).

My idea for a Oola x Luke AU story Oola in this Luke AU version is a member of the Cloud Riders ( a rebel group originally created & led by Enfys Nest, who are against the five crime syndicates including the Hutt Clan & oppose the Galactic Empire) Oola has a personal vendetta against Jabba after he murdered her father when she was a little girl on Tatooine (after they were brought over from Ryloth as slaves) Luke met her one time as a boy. Kept her hidden from Jabba's enforcers as they searched the streets for her after she threw a rock at Jabba's face when he was visiting the district of Mos Espa. Eventually Oola went on her way but never forgot about what young Luke did for her. She eventually made passage off world & went from planet to planet. picking up various skills throughout the years such as thieving, art of deception & knowing how to seduce her enemies (her being a skilled dancer & a twilek definitely came in handy) Eventually she met Enfys Nest & her group the Cloud Riders & their mission to rid the galaxy of all the crime syndicates. She was trained well by them to be an excellent assassin/spy. She targeted primarily Hutts (specifically those in Jabba's clan) She killed two via strangulation (using a slave leash they made other slaves wear just like Oola & her family) Eventually Oola went back to Tatooine, executing her plan to take revenge on Jabba. She begins working at Madam Garsa's cantina resort as a dancer/server/entertainer/. She knew that Jabba's majordomo Bib Fortuna often came here looking for new slave girls for Jabba (granted if they could dance well enough) He saw Oola's performance & immediately purchased her, bringing her to Jabba's Palace. Soon she was brought forth to Jabba & performed a dance for him in order to win his disgusting affection and to earn a place as his 'favorite'. Jabba quickly took a liking to Oola & made her his prized slave dancer. Oola played the part of the weak slave girl well for several days, Jabba not suspecting a thing. She was still thinking of a way to kill him without getting herself killed in the process. The next day C-3PO & R2-D2 arrive at the palace with a message from Luke Skywalker ( the boy who saved her life the first time from Jabba) trying to negotiate for the life of his friend & comrade Captain Han Solo (who was now hanging as decoration in Jabba's Palace, frozen carbonite) Jabba of course rejected the offer as Oola knew he would. Later that evening Oola performed another excellent dance (much to Jabba's enjoyment) but was soon interrupted by the masked bounty hunter named Boushh who brought with him the mighty wookie Chewbacca as their prisoner. Oola could tell this so-called bounty hunter was not all they seemed. Later during the night Boushh/Leia frees Han from the carbonite prison but both of them are soon captured by Jabba & his forces. Jabba considers making Leia his new slave at first but decides that a few nights of interrogation & imprisonment might prove more useful (not to mention how much the Empire is willing to pay for her) Soon after Luke Skywalker arrives and once he sees Oola he immediately recognizes her & why she's here (using the Force to read her) He tells Jabba that one way or another he's taking his friends back & if Jabba doesn't listen he will be destroyed. Jabba of course doesn't listen & sends Luke to the Rancor Pit along with a gamorrean guard who grabbed Luke. Oola watches in disgusts as the Rancor devours the guard alive but becomes frightened for Luke when it sees him. She's amazed at how brave he's become but then again he was always brave. She cheers him on as he puts a bone in the Rancor's mouth (resulting in Jabba yanking her chain) After the Rancor is killed by Luke, Oola smiles happily but Jabba pulls her leash even harder, hurting her. Jabba has Luke, Leia, Solo, Chewbacca brought forth to him in the audience chamber, where he sentences all four of them to the Sarlacc Pit to be slowly digested for about thousand years. The next day Jabba travels the Dune Sea in his sail barge to the Sarlacc Pit, bringing with him Oola, C3-PO & R2-D2. They soon arrive to the pit and Luke gives Jabba one last chance to free them or die. Jabba of course laughs and orders him to be pushed in. Luke gives the signal for R2-D2 to send him his lightsaber and he begins fighting back against Jabba forces along with everyone else (including Lando Calrissian who was disguised as a palace guard) Oola watches in amazement realizing that her old friend Luke is an actually Jedi & Jabba is powerless against him. The time was now! Oola picked up a statuette & used it to smash a control panel which threw the observation deck into darkness. Jabba was scared & confused as he should be. Suddenly Oola wrapped her slave leash around Jabba's bulbous neck & began to tightly strangle him. As Oola pulled harder she told Jabba who she was, what he did to her & her father & how long she waited for this. How easily she played him & how now he will die by the very object he's forced others to wear for his enjoyment. Jabba roared with rage! With one last strong pull...Jabba was dead. It was done. Her father had been avenged. Oola made her way to the deck where Luke instructed her to get the gun & point it & blast it into the deck (which in turn will cause the barge to explode) Oola hangs on to Luke as he swings them both over to the skiff controlled by his friends, soon collecting the droids & leave as the barge explodes into flames. Oola hugs Luke as he departs for Dagobah to see Master Yoda. Promising to talk to her soon. Oola goes back with the others to Home One where she will join them on their mission to Endor. Suddenly Luke comes in & Oola is excited to see him as he is to see her. They catch up explaining what has happened since they last saw each other. Luke understands Oola's pain (considering he lost his uncle Owen & aunt Beru and Obi-wan) He asks Oola that now Jabba is dead if she'll be able to find peace. she says she's not sure that's possible. Luke says "I'll help you find it, no matter what." The two soon share a deep passionate kiss but have to break away for the mission. (unknown to Luke, Palpatine can feel the intense connection forming between Luke & Oola and has a plan to use it for his goal to turn Luke to the dark side) Oola's team on Endor soon get ambushed by a Death Trooper squad who kill everyone else except her. She's transported back to the Death Star) Later Luke is taken there too, after surrendering himself to Vader (in hopes to turn his father back the Light Side) Palpatine tells Luke that his father can't be saved & that shield generator code being leaked was a trap set by Palpatine himself. Sensing that Luke is struggling with the darkness within himself but will not strike Palpatine down. The Emperor then signal the guards to bring out Oola (who is bound in cuffslinks) and is forced to sit under next to Palpatine. He knows how much Luke cares for her already & how far he'll go to protect her. He tellls him how Oola will be his personal slave & how she will serve him greatly. This causes Luke to strike but Vader protects his master. During the battle Vader tells Luke that he can't be saved from the darkside & that Oola will die unless Luke kills him (Vader begins to slowly force choke her) which causes Luke to go dark, screaming "LEAVE HER ALONE!!!" He attacks Vader violently, cutting off his cybernetic hand. Palpatine tells him to take his father's place but Oola tells him "Luke...No. No. Don't become him. Not you. Not after everything you've done for me. For them! For the Galaxy. Not you." Luke refuses to kill his father or turn to the dark side. Proclaiming himself a Jedi just like his father. Palpatine realizing he's failed, begins attacking Luke with his force lightning and does the same to Oola when she tries to intervene. As Vader watches his son & his son's friend slowly dying he turns back to the light & kills the Emperor. Luke & Oola carry Vader back to a shuttle till he demands that Luke removes his mask, so he can look upon his son with his own eyes. Luke takes it off and the two stare at each other. Vader tells them both to go, saying Luke already saved him & that he was right about him. Vader/Anakin soon dies & Luke grieves with Oola hugging him tight. Together they fly away from the death star just as the rebels led by Lando, blow it up as the shield gets taken down, thanks to Solo, Leia, Chewie and the Ewoks down on Endor. Back on Endor Luke gives his father a jedi funeral via fire pyre. Wondering if he could have saved him. Oola holds his hand tightly watching the flames. Meanwhile our heroes are having a full celebration with the Ewoks regarding the fall of the Empire & the return of the Republic as well as the Jedi. Luke sees the force ghosts of Obi-Wan, Yoda & his father Anakin, smiling knowingly at him. Oola decides to put on the best dance of her life for Luke (with the Ewoks playing music) after her amazing performance, Luke & Oola hold each other and kiss one last time. The end..possibly lol.

The version in the original film doesn't seem available anywhere else. They don't even sing "Lapti Nek" on the chorus in that version.

You got to give George Lucas credit for this scene. Did he do both versions even back in 1980?
@baranguirus5 жыл бұрын
He did the CGI-filled "Jedi Rocks" version in the late 90s. He said he hated this version and wanted more "realistic" effects. Honestly though, I think the animatronics, puppets and suits look a lot more "realistic", because they were actually there, with the actors and actresses! And this song is absolutely brilliant. I could listen to it on loop forever. :)

Disney needs to release the Original Star Wars Trilogy without the CGI bull crap
@rassilontdavros30049 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. I have the "unspecial" DVDs from c. 2004, but they're non-anamorphic, unrestored, and non-HD. There needs to be a full-blown restoration process to get them back, as closely as possible, to their ORIGINAL state.
@phantomzone27258 жыл бұрын
Harmy already released the original version of Star Wars Trilogy. He reconstructed the films scene by scene and effect by effect as it was shown in theaters, since Disney could not release officially due to Fox copyrights
