Bradley De Santa People shit on this movie, and make no mistake it's entirely inferior to the first one (feeling almost like a more kid friendly take on the idea), but I still think it's pretty entertaining. If this was the only ROTLD movie and the others didn't exist, I think it would be remembered more fondly as an ok horror comedy.

I think the first one was more "surrealism" than actual comedy. The characters would act with disonnence to the situation in scattered moments, you had weird stuff just kind of stuck in the background and never commented on. Yeah, you can VIEW it as funny-- but the humor isn't inherent. The second one ACTUALLY ATTEMPTED a true horror comedy-- but there was relatively little ACTUAL COMEDY, so they fell back on a lot of the same disonance and surrealism mixed in. The result isn't much funnier, it's just MORE FUN in general.

@@crazyjim9380 This cannot be recreated properly. I don't say that to be clever. Reality is that this is one of the movies where the result is greater than the sum of its parts. Sometimes movies that "just work" pops up, and they are surprisingly rare. Look at what happened when they tried to remake Fright Night in 2013. Lots of money, tech and all the rest of it - didn't work. This was the right cast, the right director, the right place, at the right time. ROTLD became what it did because all the right ingredient where there. None of the other four movies came remotely close. Hope they leave it alone.

Joe DiCicco It had nothing to do with the score writer. He also did the new score. It was all because Tom Fox was a twat with no knowledge of the film and music industry. Also, it was only in the US DVD releases. The theatrical version, the laser discs and the European DVD's all feature the original score.

Rights in relation to licensed music can be real iffy at times, and sometimes limited. The animated movie Heavy Metal had a whole set of licensed rock and metal songs handpicked for the movie, suiting it real well, but apparently the studio hadn't gotten the rights to use it in home video releases, so it was a while until people could enjoy (legal) copies of the movie in their own home. Looking at the Grand Theft Auto games, which have some fame for the elaborate and long radio station tracks in the game, featuring lots of licensed music, Vice City prominently featured some music by Michael Jackson, but in later re-releases of the game his songs are absent, Rockstar Games presumably couldn't afford to license his music again, alternatively now that MJ has passed away, his estate decided that they didn't want the music associated with games like Grand Theft Auto.
