Dirty tactics make this event way less cool than it should be. What's cool about forcing other people into barriers, riding right into them to get the better line, or just chopping their front wheel? Pretty daft there don't seem to be any rules

Yeah, like take that, you famous pretty boy TV guy. Put that in your camera and smoke it. You ain't smokin' me and showin' it on TV. And that's racing and don't I know from my BMX days--the competition was fierce and the races were short. And I never got close to a win, usually dusting myself off from getting elbowed and going down hard in a corner. And I was fine with it. I enjoyed the handful of races in which I competed as a Novice at National Bicycle Association events in Northern California in '79. And I had already won twice on the road, so that was my consolation prize. You can't win 'em all.

It's good to see you guys in the german fixed gear scene :) the whole race scene (crit races) goes more into technical courses and fun tracks and allowing wide riser bars ( just like we ride in the streets) and that's makes fixed gear racing so special. And the community of course :) you should check out fixed gear alleycats like the Maikätzchen in Hannover, it's even more just for fun and a big party.

Watched the final. Not serious at all. Eliminated racers were staying in for multiple laps. No DQ for wheel clipping. Redhook is a much more serious event. But I am really starting to enjoy those crit and alternarive formats. Onboard cameras also improves the experience. Continue on that GCN. Amazing job from Manon and Hank (just need to improve beer openning).

If you've never prepared for a race with a beer before, or had a beer during a race, you NEED to do an Alleycat bike race. Around here it's supposed to mimic a day in the life of a bike messenger, it's sorta like a scavenger hunt punctuated by drinking, smoking and other silly activities. Followed by a great party and sometimes prizes. You guys are more than welcome to come to winnipeg and check one out!

Correct. A lot of regular crit riders come unstuck if they're new to fixed gear because they think they can bank steeper into corners and keep the inside crank up. As you point out, this is a bad idea on a fixed wheel.
