Thanks for stopping by! As for your question, I suppose it depends on what you like about the tower games: is it the electronic component? The gameplay? The theme? If you like the way the app integrates with the game, consider Mansions of Madness (a horror game) or Lord of the Rings: Journeys Into Middle Earth. Both are fine adventure games that use an app in a similar way to DM the gameplay. Gloomhaven is also great if you like good storytelling and it provides a LOT of value for the money. An app isn't required to play, but fan-made apps are available that help keep everything straight.

The rim of the glass holder looks a little narrow for reaching in to grab the last few skulls. How practical is it for reaching in to grab the last few (or do you just dump them out)?

Great question, but no, it's no problem. You probably won't fit your whole hand in there, but you can easily get a couple of fingers in to grab a skull.
