Return to Round Island

🐍 Imagine being some of the last to see a species before it went extinct. 🐍
🦎 Home to many endemic species, Mauritius’ offshore islet Round Island is a Durrell rewilding site where we have been working for decades alongside local partners to rebuild the ecosystem.
🌿 In 1975, British conservationists David Bullock and Steve North worked on Round Island as part of an undergraduate degree project. During their time on the island, they encountered what may have been one of the last Round Island burrowing boas.

Thank you for posting. I’ve been fascinated with Round Island since l travelled to Mauritius is 2003 and being a herpetologist myself l have searched the internet for possible pictures of the boa with no luck. It’s great to see what it looked like, much bigger and thickly set than l imagined. It’s my dream to visit Round Island one day. Thanks again for the video.
