Maybe speak with the property owners to see how long they've held the property? Considering the amount of coins you've pulled from those fields, I'm wondering if a community market or harvest fairs happened in those fields.
@virginiasoskin9082

Yep, a weekly produce or other type of market and harvest or amusement fairs.....something that caused people to lose their change while digging in their pockets and purses....and if near a church that would be adjacent to a gathering place of some type...the town green or whatever.....

The silvers definitely stand out from the crowd dont they, even if one is a quarter of a coin, You only need to hinge your plug if the grass is a running grass like couch or buffalo, the hinge allows live runners to remain in tact and most of the grass to survive,. The grass you are on seems to be individually rooted, so theres no problem removing the plug completely, Cheers John!

Another wonderful dig, well done fella. R.E the flap on your hole 😅🙈 3 sides helps to stop the clod floating up in wet fields, it helps to stop animals pulling them out so easy, 3 cuts is less than 4, keeps all the networks of mycelium and roots connected and better chance of survival, you can make a much neater hole, expecially if you are on a short type lawn. But truth be told ive no idea these were just some of the conclusions i came to and could be completely wrong lol. You have such good land where you are, most of my older coins are toast

If you cut a large plug similar to what you do then the hinge is not an issue as long as the soil is not dry as in mid summer. I usually leave a generous hinge with a large plug as I always have. I often see other detectorists plugs dried out as near dean spots of grass, I however still run my coil over them.
