The last toy I bought the day before it closed here, was a Doll for my Granddaughter..But on that same day I bought a Scooter, a bike and some Wresting toys for my Grandson. I said the last toy was a doll, cause when I checked out and was about to leave in the car, I ask my son to let me do one more round of the place n ran back in to get something else and what I bought was a cute Doll. My Son was like More Toys ? 😄😄😄

Your Black Friday story ... I had a similar experience with the line at Best Buy when it was at the old location where Great Escape is now, just down Whipple from TRU and where SH Kim Tae Kwon Do was. The line went down the side of the store, across the circled street and clear up to where the Pizza Hut (and Van’s Camera?) used to be. Eventually got in, but everything was picked-over. That was probably the last time I really went out on Black Friday. I want to say that was 1996 or 1997. Just not worth it.

20:54 - 23:35 Looks like they might have downsized the sales floor at some point because that vinyl floor continues past the back pegboard display wall, a quite possible sign that the sales floor was originally bigger and those bolts sticking out of the floor must have been mounts for a display shelf that was there. Man this is the one on Whipple, me still being in school at Jackson I remember going to this place a lot before it went away. I remember going to the place the day before it closed and buying a bunch of stuff. And now the signs are removed expect the street one and I guess it can’t be deserted inside because the spirt of Halloween was in the old building not to long ago just like how they were at the bargmax. I wish and hope something better goes into that area I would like to see thing people can enjoy go in and I know Toys R Us isn’t going open up a location there again. But I still like to dream of it.

Alot of local sign ordinances allow an existing sign to be changed to a new sign of the same size when a new business moves in even if ordinances have changed and required smaller signs or such. They grandfather them in. That is why alot of property owners leave the existing signage, especially pole mounted signage that is out in the parking lot. The building signage may be that the property owners removed some to show that the building is available for a new business, the ones that still have signage are because stores like Toys R Us who were going out of business completely didnt allow any funding to remove signage, after all they were bankrupt. I am sure they probably had the attitude that it was then someone elses problem. LOL Near where I live there was a huge Shoney's Restaurant neon sign out near the interstate. It stayed there for at least 6-8 years after the Shoney's had closed up. I believe the zoning thing was in play there because it was replaced with an exact height sign from a new business.

Thanks for the the look at that store. My local toys r us looks almost the exact same way. Same era. every sign still up. I am really surprised that it hasn’t been bought and converted into something new. It is in large regional shopping center where there are always more retailers wanting space than what is available. The toys r us and only one other space are empty in the entire area. The other space was a Shopko that closed only a couple of months ago and probably has offers for the space. I don’t understand why the toys r us is still empty.

I tried to get similar footage up here in Fort Wayne and two of my crew for my #RetailNightmares channel were effectively bullied off the property. And from looking at this footage, I am able to determine that this will be soon gutted. I may be wrong, Nate, since I have never been in too many Toys R Us locations. I had only been to one Toys R Us location - Muncie, IN when it was open in 2014.

the fire was actually at toy u us . i know because i work on the clean up crew that had to go in and put all the usable stuff on pallets . they then were shipped out of the country by the recycling Co. that bought the stuff. that was right before Christmas of that year . the fire started in the back room and yes the employee was smoking dropped it on some old boxes the started the fire .
