Return to Turtlehead Peak

Five years ago I hiked to the top of Turtlehead Peak. It was my first significant solo hike and it really instilled in me a sense of independence and confidence. To commemorate that first "peak bagging" accomplishment, I hike back up to the top of Turtlehead Peak in Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas. Very awesome, Nix! ....still no registry....crazy....there wasn't one when I was up there in April either. In August of last year, there was just a sign-in booklet wedged under the metal bar you zoomed into...no box. 🤷‍♂😎

The thing that bums me out the most up there, is that they still haven't replaced the bench marker. I love seeing those things on the top of a mountain.

Great return trip! Seconding the caution on bringing more water than you might need. I also add electrolytes to my water to ward against dehydration. It can sneak up on you. Beautiful sights and another great adventure!

Had a close call on this hike once. I had enough water, but a friend I was hiking with ran out. Plus the hike went late in the afternoon and the temps were rising quick. Which is why I’m hyper vigilant about water and hiking early on this particular trail. I do water and electrolytes as well, but I keep my water and electrolytes separate. I bring electrolyte gummies (and snacks).

That trail looks a little tough for me, so thank for sharing the experience. I love the views. Don't feel too bad about the late start, I never seem to get out on the trail early either.

This trail is very deceptive. It's starts out nice and easy and then it turns into a little monster! I always have grandiose plans to get on the trails (or road) early and they never seem to materialize! Thanks for wathcing. :)

I find it very therapeutic for my brain. Sometimes I need to just get away from everything to decompress. Hard or easy hike, it all works!
