For us too! The rest of the country endures crazy weather all the time and we're just so used to it! Our "devastating" rainy days don't make the news, lol. But as soon as California has weather, the whole country needs to know and is supposed to feel sorry/concerned for them (not, of course, talking about the few people in areas that did have real damage or lost their lives), because they weren't "built for it"🙄 So often we get sudden bad weather and the county/state isn't prepared. We don't ask Californians for prayers every time this happens! Sheesh! I almost felt like commenting to Jess, "Oh wow! I'm so sorry about your trash can and couch! How absolutely terrifying! We will be praying!!!!" Lol 😂 Another KZbinr from CA was complaining recently how hard her life was having to load the kids in the van everyday when it was raining out. As she had to load them up in a warm dry garage🙄 We don't have a garage. We walk through piles of snow, on slippery ice, a muddy dirt walkway and driveway with sheets of raining pouring down on top of us, to our van everyday to load our many children up. It's not fun. But it's also not the end of the world.

I live in CA, not far from Jess. Same county actually. Yes, we had rain non stop for a few days. When it was raining non stop. We did lose power (2-3days). Some lost for almost 1 week. A lot of down power lines, trees down on street, hitting cars and major flooding. But in all seriousness, it’s not as bad as Jess explains it to me. She always takes it to the extreme. Living in Ca my entire life, when it rains. It’s just water. We need the rain anyways. Someone like Jess tends to exaggerate a little bit.
@GM-de7oz Жыл бұрын
@@beckyyang4310 Thank goodness the temps there are bearable when the power goes out. We just had such heavy snowfall this year that people were losing power and then had no way to stay warm in their homes😫. It happened a few times. We lost power one of those times, and if it wasn't for our wood burning stove, I would have been freaking out! It's below freezing here! I have 9 children that I have to keep warm! As it was, I was still nervous that I wouldn't be able to keep the fire going because my husband had to go to work and he's usually the one that knows how to make the fire and then maintain it. Luckily I was able to keep it going, but it only really heated up our living room. The rest of our old drafty farmhouse was cold and there was, of course, still the risk of pipes freezing:/ When it rains here, it can go on for a few days to a whole week nonstop. It's common for trees to fall all over the place, but that's usually if there's wind too.

Yes there I a better choice. I’m a scuba instructor and travel a lot for dive trips. We use a brand of suit case that is sold on its tiugh stand up to anything tough travel boxes. They come in multiple sizes. The brand is Pelican Boxes. They can be run over by a truck and not break. We use them to help with expensive equipment. Once we were going from airport to out resort. They pick us up at air port and transport people and luggage. We were behind them and watched our suitcase fly out the truck and bounce across the road into ditch. Other than a few scratches everything was great. They are worth every penny . Even camera’s and filming equipment are kept safe.

I flew American Airlines from NZ to Dallas, then Dallas to London over Christmas (my suitcase was checked all the way through to London and when I picked it up, 2 of my four wheels were missing just like yours but worse. Was a large barely used suitcase and had to go to their customer service and fill out a bunch of stuff in the airport. Ended up having to buy a new suitcase in London (not ideal way to start my trip) to get me through the next month of travels and home again. Recieved an email from American a couple of days ago after 3 weeks, saying they would refund me my new suitcase, but still haven't received payment so we shall see. Wish they would go easier on them, such a hassle and waste for people:(

If your luggage is broken next time, before leaving the airport, find a baggage information booth and register the broken luggage. They will give you a piece of paper stating the damage and the airline you used to travel. And then you should be able to claim damages. At least it works like this in Europe. I had my luggage broken the same way last year when travelling to Estonia through Germany from Azerbaijan and I made the claim at the airport and two days later my travel insurance transferred the cost of a new luggage to my account so I could buy a brand new one to replace the broken one.

Jess the biggest mistake with travelling by air is having hard shell suitcases with 4 exposed spinning wheels - they are one of the worst types of suitcases for durability and longevity - so don't expect them to last or come out intact the other end, it's just the way it is with that style unfortunately.

American has broken and lost so much of my luggage but have to use them bc that is who my employer uses for travel. Something you can do is file a claim with a picture of your broken suitcase and go online and find the price for it to attach to the claim or if you have a receipt you can submit that too. They are good about reimbursing you for it. We always get our luggage from TJ Maxx they always have great pieces for great prices. 😊

Oooh for the luggage, Jess. When I was 10 or so (24 now, so don't remember exactly) I'm pretty sure American Airlines beat up my dad's luggage on our way back to SF from D.C. I now live in Paris and (literally) have traveled the world - I can speak highly of both Travelpro (soft & hardside) and also DELSEY. I have a little Delsey 21inch spinner that has been both checked and used as a carry on from Israel to Japan to Australia and literally all over Europe - 5 years old and she's still going. I have two GIANT softside travel pro suitcases to check when I go back to the U.S. - and the grey one I have has been across the Atlantic Ocean 7 or 8 times and she's still in good shape (besides minor wear & tear like some threads coming off, etc). But I fill those suitcases when I go to the U.S. to THE BRIM with American goodies to bring back to France. In other words, even with it being the 50lbs limit - it's never been beat up like that. I usually fly United for reference when I go to the U.S. (I think you've mentioned you like United too). It's a combination of choosing a good airline, but also good suitcases! Hope this helps :)
