42 years ago. Durban south Africa I first heard this beautiful song. A beach front hotel, young lady behind the bar noticed that I was loving the song and she lent me the tape. Another time and a another world, but thank you so much for introducing me to Michael Franks.

Some people love Atlantic City. I hate it. But a friend of mine asked me to see Michael Franks with her and I jumped at the opportunity. I have been listened to him since I was a kid. I couldn't believe his voice. I couldn't believe his band. I will never forget that night. They performed so well and the sound, whew, so good that it brought tears to my eyes and I'm a dude. Michael Franks is a legend. He has that Antonio Carlos Jobim voice. Mellow, fluid, and peaceful.

this and tiger in the rain were two of my favorite songs by him back in the late 80's
@teacher55oliveros Жыл бұрын
Completely agree, but those two songs are from the late '70s. Lady wants to know from Sleeping Gypsy 1977 and Tiger in the rain from the same album published in 1979

I was raised with jam band music and the Blues. Michael Franks has turned me onto Jazz music which before I had a hard time relating to. I believe that the sax was good. Any music lover can appreciate artistic impressions without harsh judgement.

Chuck Loeb was a master guitarist-writer in his own right-huge in the smooth jazz genre until his untimely passing in summer '17. RIP CL

Love the simplicity and minimalism of Michael Franks’ lyrics and music. I think he’s actually more like Davis than Coltrane in this respect. A songwriter to admire and mimic.

@loninobar yes, i had the honour to see this concert live, it was really beautifull to see michael franks live for the first time in my life, it was a little dream come true. i still have a few more...althoug im more musical than lyrical, Franks lyrics are different, like lady wants to know, tiger in the rain, with a sensitivity that reaches the edge of any possible. A luxury to listen him.

Somebody here mentioned Michael Frank's vocal is not as good as it used to be, but I think he preserved his voice very well, considering his age. It's been more than 20 years since then, you know. Michael Franks does not oversing. Think about recent young singers who ruin their voice from oversinging and can't sing on stage. Compared to them, Michael has a class of his own, and never he sings off key on a live stage.

With all due respects to Dennis Chambers and his accomplishments, in this concert, he doesn't swing. I will forever miss the man, Mr. John Guerin -- the original drummer of Michael's "Art of Tea" and "Sleeping Gypsy" albums; Guerin displays complete control, taste, and he swings like a finely oiled machine.

Yes, it was a humor gag, he said, ..and my name is...Larry Carlton... In that concert the day after will play Larry Carlton, so i suposed somebody in that concert confuse him with L.C., so he said that, is what i think.

Michael's voice sounds very weak in comparison to his former self. His music will live on with me, but it pains me to see him as he is now. God Bless you Michael.
