This serial is absolutely dire. Full of BBC box ticking. Vigil must be the biggest submarine like ever. I think the interiors were shot on a cruise liner. There's a navy woman at HQ who alternates car park duty with being the Rear Admirals closest advisor. This is the same Rear Admiral who can just call the American Navy and ask for their help. No need to ask the Prime Minister if its OK to start mini war with the Russians. It'll be fine. Utter utter shite. Oh and the exteriors look like they were shot in a bath tub.

The advisor was not on car park duty. She was at then entrance to escort the police detective. And, the Prime Minister is actually referenced in the video scene with the Chief of the military, as someone she was consulting with. As far as "ticking boxes", do you mean diversity? Diverse people have existed in the world for many centuries. They didn't really ask the American Navy for "help", other than asking for information.

Well, it's over at last, thank goodness. A formulaic approach to scriptwriting. Murder in an out the way locale. Constraints imposed. A personal tragedy. A tricky social problem over contact. A lesbian relationship, one of the partners not quite convinced. A cliff hanger over a submarine disaster. A British trawler towed to Davy Jones locker by an American sub that evades the camera throughout series. Russian spies, topping peace campers and Royal Navy crew. A pack of Russian subs, allegedly undetectable, running off when they hear the bow cap doors on this invisible US sub opening as if implying a slew of torpedoes targeting the Russians. Absolutely hysterical and a fine example of "hidden humour". And we'll leave it there.

She didn't abandon her child. The series shows pretty clearly that she was struggling with shock and grief after the accident, depressed, etc. And, the grandparents pushed for, at least, temporary custody. No abandonment happened. And she wasn't married to the father. As far as the lesbian relationship, bisexuals exist in quite large numbers, and, at times, it's not discovered until you meet the right person to fall in love with. That is realistic, actually.
