We just use water and keep it in a bowl at the changing table. most baby wipes are 99% water and the rest is just stuff to make it not mold. I wouldnt put anything like soap in it since it dries out the skin. If any poop ever gets sticky and dry we used some almond oil to remove. Works like a charm. If Diapers with lots of poo are in a load we do a "pre rinse" cycle first, because otherwise it will leave the whole load with a yellowish-tint. If but ever gets red-ish we use a cream as a barrier and "healing wool" (organic sheep-wool, just brushed and lightly washed, still has the natural fat on it) as a further protection between poo/pee and babies skin. If skin should be open at any point, the midwife recommended black tea to use instead of water for wiping, it has a drying effect. First child is now 3,5 months old and has a nice rash-free bum.

We use detergent by the brand "frosch". They produce ecofriendly detergents in germany since the 80s, I dont know if it is available in the US. Maybe these tips come in handy for you or anyone reading this. Cloth diapering is great once you get the hang of it :)

@@dianalee8990 did you ever have a newborn? you dont want to bathe them often since the skin is quite sensitive. But they poop 6-8 times a day. And if you dont realise they pooped for 30 minutes some of the poop, where the diaper ends mostly, can become sticky because it gets dry. If I wipe that off with a wet and oily cloth, it is the same as if i would bathe the child, but only the necessary parts. This is how midwifes recommend it here in germany. How you care for your children often gets so immensly judged by people online and most comments like this I feel like are from people who never took care of a baby and are uneducated... And there are many ways to do things right. If you want to bathe your newborn everyday pls do so, but living in snowy germany doesnt really doesnt provide the best temperatures to do so.

@Hanna-rj4ly i live in snowy Norway and we bath our baby girl when she has stickey poop. Not a full on bath, we just hold her carefully and rins of the poop with the shower on low pressure. I used just water, soap and a little bit coconut oil to make that when my son was a baby. I started zero waste when I was pregnant with him, because that's when I moved out from my mother's home. Now he is in elementary school. It was harder to adjust to zero waste for my husband than for me, but it was important for me that our son learned about zero waste from the beginning. You are doing a great job and I hope you inspire a lot of people to go to a more zero waste life.❤

I used cloth diapers for my son because the chemicals on disposable diapers made him break out with a really horrible diaper rash. He was severely allergic to the disposable diapers. Before we found out about the allergy, we used every cream over the counter and prescription on the market but they all failed. His Dr is the one who suggested cloth.

So i had to have cloth diapers and washcloths as a baby because my skin was so sensitive--if you used a baby wipe anywhere on my body i would break out in a rash, and forget about disposable diapers. My parents used a diaper service that would pick up the dirty diapers and drop off clean cloths. Then we had a ton of white washcloths that were just wet with water before wiping and putting in the laundry. The washcloths would then get washed by themselves in hot water and bleached. I think sometimes they would use vaseline as a barrier on my skin to protect from irritation, cloth diaper me up, and put on those little waterproof pants over the diaper to catch any drippage

I wouldn't worry about your with hazel not being in glass. Glass is actually harder to recycle in some areas and the cost to ship it to the nearest recycling facilities can be huge, if it outweighs the benefits they often dump it in landfill anyway. About 30min from where I live there is a circular PET recycling plant so I actually specially look for PET plastic because my nearly glass recycling plant is 7 hours away by road.

Prescription bottles are recyclable! Just be careful to remove your personal information that's on the labels before you chuck them in the recycle! Sounds gross, but there’s an easy “stripping” process you can use to get them squeaky clean. It involves bleach, so it’s not for everyone - but I figure a little bleach is worth the used purchase. Then, just water on the cloths and corn starch on the booty. Works like a charm!
