@@manicpixiecoffeelovr not the place for what, the truth? The truth casts no shadow on the fact that the owner of the channel is amazing, strong and very likely a great mother (if that's your concern). Btw, "having options" goes in line with the original comment's opening remark "one shouldn't encourage teen pregnancies". As for the second part "if your child comes to you and says they're pregnant -- make them feel loved" -- definitely yes. As for the course of actions after that -- totally depends on CHOICE. I've taught my niece English and she watches a lot of English vids now. After she sent me this one with a comment "maybe this is what we girls should do", I decided to leave my comment. However, she might've been sarcastic. Gonna talk to her when I see her.

Sometime we have to believe that our children and our grandchildren are the reason we were put on this earth. I have always hoped that my being an EMT-Intermediate for 7 years might have been part of the reason my oldest grand son has the word Doctor in front of his name. I had a baby at 16: got pregnant at 15. I had to give her up for adoption and thought of her everyday. When she turned 46 she decided to find me and find me she did. We’ve had a beautiful friendship since then. She has 4 boys which I ❤️ love. I was unable to keep her. My parents were alcoholics and didn’t want to raise another one. Abortion was off the table and the year was 1967. No government help programs. No anything. Kudos to you for your girl, aren’t they the cuties? You have my respect and admiration.

I am so, so sorry you had to give up your child. The world was a harsh place for women then. It makes me sick to my stomach when one reads about the cruelty that was inflicted on women and children even up to the 1980s. I had friends who had babies at 16 & 17 in Scotland in the late 1970s. Still slightly scandalous- BUT the welfare rules changed and they were entitled to a small flat, a benefit and support. This was an enormous help to those genuinely in need, but one or a hundred saw it as a way to financial and actual independence- and took it. Those of us slogging away at University in damp, draughty flats with no money often envied those girls their little flats with central heating, secure income and bonny baby. Mind you, they had to put Uni on a back burner for a while!

My mother-in-law got pregnant at 13 and had my husband at 14. This was 1969/70. Her family were also supportive. A few years later, she was diagnosed with a terminal illness and passed soon after she turned 21. I believe her early pregnancy was meant to be. When she passed, the blow was softened to her parents because she left behind this precious part of her that they got to raise.

Sad to hear. On another note, unsurprisingly nobody even mentions the fathers bacause it reminds of the bad choises and non-accountabilities. Nobody talks about how every fatherless child misses their father, but the issue can just be kept hidden. A single mother hasn't wised up before she acknowledges and takes accountability for her poor choises which includes warning others. It's not a question of being either worthy or wothless, all people have worth. It's a question of wise or unwise living without moral condemnments attached.

Both kids call her "foster" parents Nana and papa. Her biological parents completely cut her off. The biological dad was also 12. Him and his parents are very involved and paid support. They'd shame young women for choosing to keep the baby, and also young women who choose to remove the undeveloped fetus (within 1st trimester). They don't want their daughters to have sex, but they let their sons to have sex with other people's daughters (even in their own homes). The mentality those kind of people carry are weird and pathetic.

I hope the 13-year-olds watch this and learn what not to do at 13. The age of social media has made things even worse for teenagers. My 21-year-old sister was approached by a 13 yr old fella from the neighborhood and he wanted to be "in a relationship" with her. She reported the incident to his parents and advised them to keep a tab on their son's behavior.

Well, sadly, this actually could have been true. You see, just last February, a 14 year old girl named Adriana Kuch took her own life following a severe bullying incident in which she was assaulted on video and left unconscious. This made national news and drew a lot of anger towards the school for negligence in her case. I believe that something similar could have happened to Maddie if she hadn't had Everly. In her case, the bullies likely knew that they would have gone to jail for a long time had they beat her up and killed her unborn child, so, in effect, Everly saved Maddie's life, even if they both nearly died in childbirth.

I'm so astounded at how closely your story mirrors my own. I was pregnant at 15 and had my daughter at 16. My daughter's father and I were so naive and also weren't properly educated on the risks or how easy it was to become pregnant. One time. It only took one time. One of my sisters thought she was pregnant and she convinced me to take a test with her and imagine my shock when I had the positive test result and she didn't. I was so stunned that it happened so easily. I thought it was really hard to get pregnant from all the TV shows and magazines and real life stories I had heard from adults that couldn't conceive no matter what they tried. I was terrified. I thought my life was over. A was still a child myself, developing into adulthood, having a literal human life growing inside of her. I hid it for 2 or 3 months until my oldest sister who had guardianship of me at the time took me to the doctor for a UTI and I was trembling in fear because I knew what was going to happen at that doctor's office. The doctor asked me if I had been sexually active and I remember the look of disappointment and anger on my sister's face when I answered yes. I thought she was going to kick me out. I didnt have any other family members or friends to turn to and no job, no car. My aunt told me to get an abortion because having a baby would ruin my life and I wouldn't graduate high school or get a good job or enjoy my youth. But I refused. I was having this baby. And I was keeping her. The students at my school looked at me differently. They would call me easy and say horrible things and that if I didn't want to hear them, then I shouldn't have spread my legs. People would look at me like I was disgusting. My daughter's father's family was so supportive. They ended up taking me in and my daughter too, when she was born. I got a job immediately and was working as well as being a full time student, on top of being a new mother. Her father and I did split up because we were still too young to know what we really wanted and had different priorities, but he's been there for our daughter whenever she needed him and is a great co-parent. I proved my aunt wrong. I graduated high school, I moved out on my own, I got an amazing job, and there hasn't been a single day of my daughter being born that I regret. She literally saved my life. I was going down a dark road of depression from my grandma who raised me passing away suddenly, before I got pregnant and I know that if I didn't have her, I would be in a completely different and probably much worse place. She is my miracle. Even today, people are incredibly shocked when I tell them my little girl just turned 15 and is heading into high school as a freshman and I'm only 31. I look like a 15 year old myself, haha. I wouldn't change a thing about having her when I did. We're have such a close relationship and have so many silly stupid jokes together and every day with her is a true gift from God. I will never take her for granted or make her feel anything but my ultimate support and love for her. I've made sure to give her all the advice I wish someone had given to me when I was younger. All we can do is our best and hope for the best for our children. I'm so happy for you. I wish you all the best as a fellow young mother!

"I prayed every single night...I wasn't scared for me...I was scared for my daughter." This tells me so, so much about your character. That sets a standard that none of the people who sent you nasty messages could live up to. BTW, my mom gave birth to me at 13; she became pregnant a couple of months after her 13th birthday and gave birth about a month before her 14th. I am by far the most successful person in either my mom's or dad's family, which just goes to show that you should never, ever give up on a kid. They are resilient and will surprise you when you least expect it. Your birth story is similar to my that of my daughter. My wife got to 40 weeks, and we still weren't parents yet, so out came the Pitocin. Things started progressing rapidly, and they put one of those scalp monitors on her. My wife got to 10 cm, and with every contraction, my daughter's heart rate dropped. So they wheeled my wife in for a C-section, and that's how our little girl came into the world.

My take away from this story: as a parent it is a MAJOR part of your job to explain the consequences of having sex to your children. It’s not the schools’ job. It’s yours. These conversations should be taking place routinely. No shame. No awkwardness. Just plain facts. Prepare your children for the reality of what might happen. Have an open line of communication early. This is not to say it won’t happen but these conversations will minimize the chances.

Stumbled upon this video randomly. I am 26 years old, my mother is just 41 (turns 42 this year) I was born 2 months after she turned 16. Sadly she wasn't able to properly raise me, therefore I was raised by my grandparents. Nowedays my mom and I get along very well. The more adult I became, the better we got along with each other. Because of me, so to say, she couldn't grow up properly, because of her young age, I couldn't grow up properly to, but many years later, as we both grew up indipendently, we became mother and sun, almost like best friends. Only sixteen years apart from each other we are liking some of the same TV shows as a kid, we have the same opinions, same feelings sometimes. You gotta read Childbirth Without Fear, an old book by Grantley Dick-Reid! Ignore the women with horror stories to tell. Talk to some women who had good experiences. Maybe watch some Hipnobirth videos to see women giving birth naturally and peacefully. That book really helped me. The childbirth class wasn’t much help. It will teach you how to relax and WHY (basically, if you don’t your muscles are pushing the baby back up in the wrong direction and fighting the contractions). Sorry, I get excited about childbirth. Hehe. If you’re not pregnant yet write those things down for later. I’ve given birth 8 times. The only slightly negative experience was when I had a controlling midwife who wanted to hurry and go home. 🙄 It is the most amazing experience and I hope you get to experience it! Also, a really good midwife will educate the heck out of you and support you sooo much more than a doctor. 😬 They are usually so much more knowledgeable than an MD about labor and delivery and in PREVENTING a lot of problems. Well, that’s prob way more than you wanted to know. 😆

I think that families' economic situation/s may also come into play, it doesn't matter who likes and or loves babies unfortunately that doesn't feed babies. Sometimes parents would like to support their children in whatever decision they are comfortable making but also some kids can't see the full ramifications of their decisions and that would be a huge concern of mine. Also some parents no matter how much they love their children are tired and don't have the emotional or physical energy for various reasons to help their kids through it. It's irresponsible for people to paint a narrative of parents who aren't allowing their 14 year old to make their own decisions as insensitive or uncaring(not saying that's what you're doing).

They should teach comprehensive, scientific, fact-based sex education, not the religiously motivated abstinence-only nonsense that reliably results in situations like Maddie’s. Simply telling young teens not to do something is a pretty good way to increase the odds that they will do that thing. No amount of telling them that it displeases God will stop it and never, ever has. Want to decrease abortions, teen pregnancy, and STI’s? Me too. You do that by doing what has been proven time and again to work. Ditch the fear and loathing and teach the facts - all of them.

Your mother's reaction is beautiful. My dad had a similar reaction when he found out I was self harming at 14. I thought he'd be angry and disappointed and I was so scared. When my mom told him and he called me into his room to talk, I thought for sure I was going to be talked down to. Instead he pulled me in for a hug and said "its okay. Its going to be okay, I love you". The way we respond to our children in hard moments programs their inner voice. Handle with care.

Because a smart mum knows that her young, pregnant daughter is feeling a lot of emotions, and fear, and hormones, and a lot else, and a good, smart mum knows that the very last thing that same daughter needs is to feel shame, pressure, or like she’s alone on this new scary journey. ❤

I'm so glad that your mum was so supportive! That is amazing. It's a direct contrast to my own experience, I was older than you were but I was still shamed horrendously for it, made to feel like I was the worst person in the world, and had messed my whole life up, disappointed everyone and generally like it was a terrible terrible thing. I look back and I think how awful to treat someone like that, it may not be what we would choose for our child, but there's no reason for the shame. A baby is a blessing, a wonderful bundle of joy, even if it's a challenging road. It's left me traumatised for the rest of my life. Anyway I love hearing stories like this, they're heart warming.

@Space The whole point is that once a situation has occurred, making judgements on it and criticising someone who has learnt from their mistakes achieves nothing. Especially when you have never been in her position and apparently lack the empathy to put yourself in her shoes. Instead parents should be educating their kids so that this doesn't happen... people aren't stupid we're well aware that pregnancy is caused by sex and we're also aware that a 13 year old having a child is a major cause for concern. But the point is she is sharing her story to raise awareness and to prevent her past from being someone else's future. And if your (imaginary) 13 year old child was pregnant yes I imagine you wouldn't be happy but I would hope you would still support her and understand that these things don't happen without reason. Maybe you should be questioning your skills as a parent and reflecting on your role as a parent in guiding your child to make the right decisions. Engaging in a little more critical thinking would do you well.

A few comments: Just came across. 1. I loved this uplifting video in the midst of deplorable world events. I needed that. Thank you. 2. Why did you have to move out? I would’ve kept my daughter until college graduation if I could. Your parents appeared very supportive. 3. Absolutely bizarre how many hecklers there are. I grew up in Sweden. There were some teenage pregnancies, and one or two births. Very few since we have sex education starting in 5th grade and it’s part of Biology class from 7th grade & repeated each year grade 8 & 9. It includes girls visiting the local doctor’s office for additional education on Birth Control and scheduling of individual appointments for prescriptions if so requested + free condoms & education how to use and their limitations. Parental involvement is zero & each individual have the freedom to decide for themselves. I was shocked when I moved to the US how backwards many states and counties are. Denial of the human sexual drive isn’t productive for the individual, nor optimal for the overall costs for the state. I recall one couple in 10th grade in my school of maybe 600 students had a baby. They continued normal schooling, lived with their parents, and occasionally brought the baby to school with them. I didn’t know them well. I never even heard a single negative thing about them, unless you count the occasional concern how they would plan their college years with a young kid. I did see many occasions with girls gushing over the cute baby. Boys were boys and gushed very little, but no negative expressions at all. I’m sorry you had to go through that.

She didn't have to move, that's something she chose for her daughter and herself. She's an adult now, financially stable, responsible, etc. So it's only natural that she go out on her own, being a wonderful example for her little girl. They also need that space of their own, instead of just a bedroom and bathroom. I'm sure she feels much better having her own kitchen, laundry, bathrooms, etc. Those things are important, they can really help a person feel accomplished and proud! She's doing what so many her age, in the same situation, would never do. And that's definitely something to be proud of!!

@@kendramandisa Of course. But life is hard. Direct support is important. 18 is adult only on paper. It’s a random number unrelated to biology, and actual adult biological age based on brain development is ~25 (unless you want to set the bar at puberty, then adult is 11-13 somewhere). Raising a child is hard despite all the love you get in return. I was 30 when my firstborn arrived. I had a career & a wife. It was still hard work, and my career took me far away from both our support networks. It was extremely noticeable when we later for six months moved in with my parents. Enormous difference. Even financially. Hence my question. But there are many variables like you say, and like everything in life it’s a question of evaluating opportunity costs.

To hear something like : "you daughter might not make it" at the age of 14 is unimaginable so heartbreaking. Like Maddie is here telling us that Everly was her reason to really live and to be told that as a mother, not only as a 14 year old but a mother, is so hard. Then the fact that Mads had to go through criticism, and bullying is just another sick topic on its own. You're so strong Maddie 💕

Hey,daughter/granddaughter/great granddaughter of a women who had teen pregnancy. My mom had me when she was 18 & lucky enough my father stayed in the picture until this very day. I am just so thankful that my mom wanted to keep her first baby (Me). My grandma was 14 (I think) when she was pregnant with my only uncle (From my dad’s side) & my grandpa loved her until this special day. Even though I wasn’t born then, I am so lucky to have my uncle, my best friend, stay in this world. My great grandma had her first baby when she was 13 (I think again). Sadly, my great grandpa died almost a year ago, but he loved & cared for her so much. I so thankful my great grandparent(s) were apart of a lot of my childhood. My great grandma still being here is such a blessing. When I was around six and I think seven, my great grandparents moved back to their home country Mexico. They sometimes visited but not that often. But since my great grandpa’s death,my great grandma visits so much. My grandma says she wants to visit her and stay there for a few months because my great grandma is lonely in her home. But it hurts me so much when she says that because I’ve known and lived with her all my life. My mom would sometimes say my grandma is going to visit my great grandma for a few months makes me almost cry. Each time she says that, she’ll say she’s joking so I won’t cry. But my grandma would just say that she might, though she doesn’t know. That’s my comment.

My mom had me the day after her 14th birthday. She ended up getting a PhD. in psychology! I'm now 38 going on 39, and my mom and I are very close. She didn't have any help from parents or family and father was absent. We went through many struggles the first 6 years of my upbringing, but it turned out wonderful. You can do it 💪! Your child will forever respect and appreciate you when old enough to truly understand how hard and how much my mom gave up but she also gained so much more. Good luck to you and your baby! As a child, now adult of a teen mom, you can do it!! I'm so grateful to my mom for everything she's done! Good luck

Not to mention a fully developed body that is actually ideal for having babies, contrary to the girl in the video. Just because you have the suffix "-teen" in your age doesn't mean you're an adolescent. And adolescence, i.e., young girls still physically developing and still in basic school, is really the big issue. "Teen mom" wouldn't be a thing If only 18 and 19 year olds were having babies.

I was pregnant at 16, had my son 11 days to turning 17, and yes, I totally get it when you said your baby saved your life. 32 years later on my story, I am convinced that my son SAVED me, this young man has been not only my son, but my best friend, my confident, my true soulmate, my best teacher in the life lessons that usually you miss, my motivation to stay sane. I do hold my experience very close to my heart, however, I’m very concerned when I meet teenage moms, pregnancy is not always an easy trial, parenting is the deepest experience in life and life happens only once.

This girl is very mature, but still young. If that makes sense. I glad that her story turned out for the better, but her story is an exception. I agree with your message. Guys are always cool when they do it and girls are sluts which is totally wrong and not true, try not to let them bullies get to you because I guarantee you that those girls have been with way more than you. Just respect yourself and save yourself for someone who will do the same and not spread your personal private relationship all over just to look cool. Stay strong hun, you will get through this.
