If anyone is interested the song playing in the background is a track by "Robot Science" called "Alaska" off their album "Good Luck". I had to dig thru most of their discography to find it since no one had said which track the music in the background is.

I still want the early version Conviction, I remember reading something back before it was changed, it had a scenario about being in a shop, going down into the basement after a suspect and interrogating him and a guard following you, you stealing his hand cuffs and locking him to the railing and running up stairs and casually walking through the coffee shop, guards suspicious, searching; Sam hiding and shooting a vendor cart to get their attention and go investigate it, so Sam can leave.

2:55 It's fun to me that you say that. I'm a real big SC fan, played every SC game out there (yes CT is so far the best one in terms of stealth gameplay). However, one of the aspects that I liked most about Conviction was the story, and that it WAS personal. I'm not lying when I say I cried when Sam found out that Lambert had betrayed him. That scene is top notch in camera work, acting and writing. I think Conviction is a great game in terms of gameplay and story, but CT takes the stealth crown.

I was talking about Blacklist, not Conviction. Sam found out about his daughter in Conviction and cleared his name regarding JBA using Lambert's video confession. Why didn't he just retire, or become the operations coordinator for 4th Echelon and let a new Splinter Cell take the field role? I guess my wording confused you. It might look like I said that Sam found out about Sarah in Double Agent, which wasn't what I was saying.

"With Blacklist's focus on agile forward-movement, Ubisoft needed an actor capable of motion capture and performance. Consequently, the 62-year-old Ironside is out, and 32-year-old Eric Johnson, known for his role as Whitney Fordman on Smallville, is the new Sam Fisher." It's worth a google.

"Our lead writer on Blacklist is Richard Dansky," Béland said. "When I called him, I said, 'Hey Richard, we're making Splinter Cell six, do you want to write it for us? And his first question was, 'Do I need to come up with a story that's gonna require Sam to take out 800 guys?' And I paused for a second and I said…

You do know that Micheal quit because he didn't want to do the vocals while Eric did the physicals. Sam only quits the game if you let Thomas live. This game will be about Sam taking down Megiddo. Plus I can't wait to play Spy(s) Versus Mercenary(s).

IIIRC, Ubisoft's new tech captures the acting itself, it wouldn't make sense for Ironside to be in a mo-cap suit since, well, he isn't exactly the same build as Fisher. Though, the new VA is at least being advised by Ironside.

I think that might be a story related issue, because the trailers show non lethal and lethal approaches, so there might be some aspect towards it. Or not. Be interesting if they used it as a moral system in later games though (hopefully not as cliche as other moral systems if they do)

Gotcha. I dont know. They say there is all this customization and stealth option stuff...I am interested tos ee what that means. I dont mind day missions because from my view it just means its harder to hide and one of the things Ive always liked about SC was the challenge.

Am I the only one who thinks that a Splinter Cell where you play as Sam's daughter would be awesome?! You know a sexy Black Widow type of feel but you still get Mr Ironside's sultry voice in your ear? I mean how old is Sam in this series? In the very first one he was ALREADY saying he was too old for this!

Yeah, what ever happened to those two trainee splinter cells in Chaos Theory? Or all the splinter cells that Fisher Bourne did not slaughter in Conviction? Why didn't Sam just retire and settle down after discovering that Sarah was alive and clearing his name after the JBA incident?

As I said a minute ago, Ironside was really into it up through Double Agent. With these last two games, he probably just started to realize that they are going to milk the character of Sam Fisher for all they can and decided he was no longer interested in voicing him. Besides, it would be kinda fucked up if didn't leave. Sam is practically a completely different character now. Kinda like that whole "new" Quinn situation in Sliders.

I think that Chaos Theory was the epitome of this franchise. It was designed primarily as a stealth game, but opening up to a wider audience turned the already niche stealth genre into something even smaller. Take the games back to their roots Ubisoft, don't turn this into the Resident Evil of the stealth genre.

This video really put me at ease in regards to this game. Conviction left me pretty disappointed as a long time Splinter Cell fan since it restricted non lethal play styles. As long as this outing lets me not kill anyone, it's good enough, but that it's also trying to innovate beyond what Conviction forced into a box marks it as something to be optimistic about at the very least.

Well we wont know the real reason for it until the game is out, but my point of view about Sam coming back is that he is a solider from the roots, a patriotic man willing to die for his country, so when his country needs him, he won't just sit and watch. He was out for Grim, but for his country, He never left the game.

Gameplay wise-Perhaps we should wait and see if they actually aceived a true stealth playstyle option before we suggest wanting a seperate "proper, chaos theory style" game. As for story/character-Since I havent experianced the story I have to reserve judgement on how reasonable sams reasons would be on continuing to be an operative. May or may not make any sense. But lets all remember that if they made a spinter cell game without sam there would be a lot of ticked of fans anyway.

I'm not a fan of earning some mysterious currency in story-driven games that you can use to unlock new weapons and aesthetics unless it's integrated into the story somehow. Take Dishonored for example: you get money and use it to pay an actual character in the game to get equipment because that is his job in helping you. That's fine imo. But just getting funds out of nowhere for killing enemies and spending them in a menu outside of actual gameplay makes things feel much more arcade-like.

Ghost, Panther(?), and Assualt... err, are those "integrated" choices you can make on the spot? I got the impression that those are actual game-modes. Also by the looks of the video I noticed what appears to be a dynamic time-lapse... like same areas repeated are now at night instead of in the morning. Is that something like that in the game, or is it scripted stuffs (probably is)?

Maybe. But that's not confirmed, even though the extreme linearity of the levels and the enemies' use of automated alert triggers and sonar vision to detect the player in what is supposedly a stealth game almost mandates killing them. The game sure did come a long way from the previous one, where even non-lethal attacks gave you harsh penalties and one detection mean the total removal of positive stealth score. I consider the possible killing of those splinter cells bad game design, not canon.

See the problem i have with the game putting aside the voice casting is that chaos theroy; the best splinter cell ever, isolated the player forcing him to use stealth, this may sound like a bad feature but was the best thing about splinter cell games however by offering a choice of play style, there making the game to easy. IT MIGHT BE STEALTH BUT IT WONT BE CHAOS THEORY STEALTH.

Not convinced and I still can't get over the fact that Michael Ironside won't be voicing Sam Fisher. They could've at least just wrote the story where this "new" Sam Fisher is literally a new recruit to replace a retired Sam Fisher. Biggest problem with Conviction is that most of the levels can be played stealthily, but it eventually forces you to have shootouts with a bunch of enemies. Not very Splinter Cell at all.

I really didn't like Conviction, the move to more action orientated style ended up leaving me frustrated as I usually couldn't use stealth, so I just shelved it and haven't played since. Agreed, like its ok if a vioice actor dies or quits acting or something but replacing a voice actor while there is no issues holding him back from taking the role but the devs themselves its just a dick move and can entirely kill a character, if they do that as you said its just a better idea to create a new character and IP.
