I live alone and keep a huge pantry in a small apartment. I have a pantry cabinet in the kitchen… things to use first go there (dates written with sharpie). I have a lower cabinet that is pickles & condiments, I use alot. Next to use is a large dresser drawer, which moves to pantry cabinet (by date) when space allows. The further out dates are in hard to reach places. I don’t throw food away. I still have some best by 2023 items. I went on a kick of buying multiples, so I had 12 chili, 6 peas, etc all with same late 2023 date. While I worked at eating that, some 2024 dates passed. No big deal… I just keep going. It’s not like a bell goes off. Anything with mayo goes into the fridge as the date approaches. I don’t stock up lots of mayo, but will make potato salad, cole slaw, salad dressing or tarter sauce if I need to use it. I look at what needs to be used, think of something to make, often set cans on the counter to remind me. Tonight I had Polish sausage with 2023 sauerkraut (next sauerkraut is 2/24). Next chili is 4/24, next peas 3/24, you get the idea. The dates write the menu.

This is awesome. I think too it depends on age and how ppl were raised to how ppl save and use food. Older generations never wasted food This generation I think is now canning more or just not into any saving food

Hi. I have a good size pantry. I rotate about every 2-3 months. I love having a full stocked pantry. I’ve been having a pantry for years. (Way before Covid) Too many times it’s helped my family, and I’m grateful I’ve built it up over the years. Thanks for sharing. Love your channel.

Yes, it’s so nice to have one. No matter the size. We just make sure we keep track of what’s going out so we can replace. Do you also can your food?

The dates are Best Buy for retail sales. Use your eyes, nose, taste in wether it’s bad. I have can goods that are out dated, as long as it doesn’t have any dent’s or anything is bugling cans/bottles. Because you can waste a lot of money and time by trashing it. With the price of groceries now we all have to try to save were we can.

That’s exactly it. I think if you know what you’re looking for, it’s ok to keep it longer. We aren’t too picky but we are on the cautious side.

Maybe put the oldest item first and then the other ones that have 2025 and over next hope that makes sense to you.

@@barbaraking5295 yeah the only shelf we use that needs to rotate is our bigger can section. And we pretty much keep track of that one. And our Prepper pantry I’m in there all the time, I just never took the time to look at sauces and dressing because we don’t have a lot of them.

I have started to do mini panrty challenges om 2-4 days just to rotate stuff around a little bit better. I shop 1-2 times/month and have a prepper panrty and 3 freezers. Still like to empty stuff out a little at a time

@@10KidsandAGarage i replace it durring the next shoppinhtrip but use up what need to be used. If I use up some off my Spices and my grillingoil I Will durring my next shoppingtrip replace it. In that way I don't have to trow anything away because it is bad but I still have a Stockpile

I'm just curious why you would re-order in your next haul, if it was expired and you didn't use it?

To keep my food up to date! And I will use, but sometimes I get stuff from Ruby’s pantry that might expire early and maybe would use it. But the stuff I do buy, I will use.

take a sharpie marker and put the dates on the outside of the product, that way things wont go bad 😀

I usually give everything to our animals but this was outdated dressing. So it was only like 5 bottles that I think I got from a pantry.
