I would be interested to know service quality of Skoda service network in Bangalore. Also what about ground clearance. It has reduced from 2nd Gen which was Laura. Did you face difficulties to overcome deep potholes or steep speed breakers.
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I am yet to send my car for servicing. However, we have a group of Octavia owners which includes owners who have driven the car for close to 100k kms too. Unanimously, they all have mentioned that Skoda has come a long way not just in terms of their attitude when selling but also in after sales support. They seem to have learnt from their mistakes and are now much better. Also recommended to get the extended warranty and service package when buying the car. As for speed breakers, I am surprised that the Octavia handles it much better than my previous Vento which used to constantly bang the rear portion when going over speed breakers of even normal height. Think the superior suspension setup is the reason why Octavia doesn't give in as much and impact onto the speed breakers. In 6 months of ownership, I've had it scrape a tad bit on a tall hump with full load and another abnormally large hump which was made by a society as well. The latter however would've probably scraped every car in this segment. Luckily, the underbody protection on the Octavia has held up well.

Do you mean potholes? Are you having this issue at the front too or only at the rear? The 1.8 TSI has a superior suspension setup at the rear compared to the TDI and 1.4TSI. I personally put it at 33 PSI on all four tyres. But you could also go for 36 at the rear if thats where the issue is.

How is your Octavia 1.8 running?.How many KM's did you clock and did you face any issues with the 7 speed DSG,since I was planning to buy it ,but the DQ200 gearbox is the only thing holding me back!
@RevAtlas6 жыл бұрын
Hey. I sold my Octavia last month to upgrade to another car. I clocked almost 35k in 1 year and 8 months. To be honest, the DSG never gave up on me and I feel a lot of the issues are hyped. Yes, it maybe more prone to heating compared to a wet clutch gearbox but in my use I never had issues. Keep in mind that my use is 90% in Bangalore City where the gearbox should exhibit issues with heating due to the bad traffic. I've one interstate trip also per month and it works fine there too. The only real issue in the car is the stupid AC vents which are fragile and will break no matter how careful you are. Other than that, it served me very well and I would recommend it to anyone else too.

Great video Sandeep 🙌🏼 You’re video was very helpful in making a decision on our next car. Think you I had a question for you. We were abt to book the new fl model in 1.8 tsi style. Do you think the DSG problem still exists with the DQ200? Is it ok for us to go with the petrol car with a monthly running of 1500km/month? Plz help us decide as you are an existing customer of the car and you have a good idea abt the car by now.

+Tejas Dm definitely dude. Go ahead. I'm already at 19k kms and it's been just 9 months since I got the car. First service is done too already. So far I'm loving it. :) I'm sure you will too. The DQ200 is still more prone to problems than the rest of the gearboxes but if taken care of well it shouldn't be an issue. Thanks a lot. Glad the video helped :)

We have clocked 16000 km with first service done. There is no shrudding noise as such. But our city is a high rainfall region and we park the car outside. Is it because of that ? Is it a major issue ?
@RevAtlas6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Doesn't seem like an issue then. 16k is too early for the brakes to wear out as well. But if you truly feel something wrong then get it checked at the SC. As long as it's not affecting the actual braking, it should be fine

Great review. The shots are very detailed n the car's practically is portrayed as it should be. I' m planning to buy the new Octavia 1.8 Tsi n was concerned about the mechatronic failure issues n was going through the team bhp reviews that when I stumbled up ur write up on it. wanted to know how is the DSG doing ? And where can I find that faux exhaust lip, it adds to the look of the car n are there any other changes that u have made. Thanks
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) glad you liked the review. Please subscribe to the channel also. To be honest, its fine so far. Haven't faced any issues apart from maybe the slight jerkiness when downshifting. But that is something a DSG reset can fix easily and in my case, it seems to have fixed itself due to the change in driving patterns. DSG is very clever and it adapts to your driving style. Which is why you see the fuel efficiency also improve in the course of your ownership. I have a few friends who own the car too and some have gone for longer. Most of them are fine with their cars. Now, they have fixed most of the issues including limiting the torque and fine tuning the gearbox to become better over time. So I think you should be good. In any case, the 4 year warranty helps too and you would be better off getting the 4 year service package as well. The exhaust tips are available through skodadop.com , easy to install. So far I've fitted the faux exhaust tips, the rear protector near the boot loading space, the front bottom chrome strip near the foglights which now comes as a default in the facelifted Octavia. Also got R stick door protectors and planning to change the tyres and rims soon too.

Had an X1 briefly between both but the 1.8 TSI was just so refined and free revving. Total beast on the highway. Forget the TDI, go for TSI

Just bought the new Octavia 1.8 tsi. The car is just mind blowing 😍. Sandeep which tyres do you suggest to upgrade to on the stock rims ?
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
+Tejas Dm congratulations Tejas! Wonderful choice. You're guaranteed to love it :D get rid of the NCT5 as soon as possible. I would personally recommend getting the Michelin PS3/4 and I personally have the PS4 with Momo Massimo 17" rims. But also you may want to look at a wider set of you want better comfort and grip. Based on what exactly you're wishing to achieve with the tyres, I could recommend the best
@applefans1007 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sandeep ! We just use the car on daily bases for dads office and to my college and back home. We won’t often use the full engine potential. We require the tyres for a better road grip and ride comfort. Based on our needs are the NCT 5 ok or we have to upgrade the tyres. And for how long a set of tyres last on this beast.
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
It should last 40k easily if handled well and driven sedately. However, i changed mine since I couldn't take the NCT 5 really. If you're not driving it closer to the limits then you can perhaps stick with it or check out Conti or Yamaha tyres with a wider profile. Should give better grip and comfort but keep in mind that mileage will get affected a bit. Perhaps you can stick with the NCT 5 till they wear out and then change it.

@RevAtlas6 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) I have sold the car since and changed to another. Sold it at 35k kms. Had it from Jan 31st 2017 till September 29th 2018. Gearbox had no issues. The gearbox issues were blown out of proportion I feel since I had a great experience overall. Maybe it would show signs of old age later on but only issue i had was with the flimsy air vents and a coolant pump leak, the latter of which was replaced under warranty.
@xrx136956 жыл бұрын
RevAtlas wasn’t expecting such a prompt reply :-) so thank you for that. Would you say the dsg reliability could be because you are a gentle driver ? I like pushing my cars to the redline one a while so was wondering how much detrimental would aggressive driving be on this unit ? Btw which car did you pick ? :-)
@RevAtlas6 жыл бұрын
Lol. Firstly I am not a gentle driver. In the sense, I'm not one to thrash my cars mindlessly but I do push them to their limits when I feel like. I have hit the top speed as well as done several stints with the car trying to beat my own acceleration times as well as trip times since I travel inter state quite often. Or even do some spirited driving to relax or get the adrenaline pumping at times. But that's not really going to affect the gearbox. The 7 speed DQ 200 is lightning fast in terms software shifting and is better than the 6 speed DQ 250 as well. Plus most wouldn't go for a 1.8 TSI if they weren't someone who's looking to enjoy their drive considering the lower fuel efficiency and higher price. They would've just gone for a 1.4 TSI or 2.0 TDI. Either way, the main thing that could cause an issue with the gearbox is traffic and constantly shifting between one or two gears or just the car being held in drive mode for too long in traffic with the clutch engaged. My usage would be 50/50 or 60/40 in terms of the distance covered during my city and highway trips. But being in city like Bangalore, the traffic being one of the worst in India, time spent during city commutes are higher. The dry clutch is apparently prone to overheating and that was the main concern for the DQ 200. But as I found out, it really doesn't cause issues. 1. They've limited the torque to 250 nm which is the max the gearbox can handle safely. Earlier it wasn't limited and that's what caused issues with the gearbox on cars such as previous gen Superb. 2. The clutch disengages and the engine goes into a full idle state if you press the brake hard enough thereby minimalising friction even in drive mode. 3. You may think on highways where you max the car out may cause issues with the gearbox but the car will quickly shift to higher gears and once you're above a certain speed, hold onto the 7th gear since you'll be doing a fairly fast speed so it doesn't really have an impact on the gearbox. In the city however you'll go from 0-10-20-40-30-10-0-10-0-10-0-10 etc and that's where there's a higher chance of damage. Hope that makes sense. I changed to a BMW X1

Resale value and maintainence are the only two things that are stopping me from getting the new Octavia 🙄
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
Maintenance isn't that expensive tbh. Service intervals are at 15k as opposed to 10k or 7.5k for some brands. When you compare the cost per service, you have to take into account service intervals as well. Plus if you go for the 4 year service package, you pay for very little on top of that as a result. Resale value yes. Sadly people don't really understand just how good the German cars are over other cars . But then again I personally wouldn't let resale value dictate what car I go for. It is definitely a bonus but would mean losing out on a lot of other benefits and would almost definitely end up with a Maruti/Suzuki always then.
@veerajnimmalapudi62767 жыл бұрын
RevAtlas I totally agree, but what after the 4 year maintainence plan expires? Don't most problems occur after the 4th year?
@RevAtlas7 жыл бұрын
veeraj nimmalapudi true. Higher chances are there for that after the 4 year period. But again so will it be the same for other cars too. The older it gets the more difficult and expensive it is to maintain. Surely some brands will have cheaper methods of maintaining too though
