So im a bit confused about what seems to be conflicting information. Me as a homeowner going through a claim im just looking for the best advice i can get. You say dont pay any upfront cost until materials show up on site, but then say a deposit may be required to get the project started. Could i have clarification on this?

I believe he explained that he doesn’t recommend giving the roofer the deposit up front, but recognizes that it may be necessary. So, he suggested that one way to combat being taken entirely by an unscrupulous roofer is to insist that the materials be delivered on-site prior to giving the roofer the half-down deposit. That is my take on what he said.

How do you ensure that the subcontracted work crew is covered by workers compensation insurance? In Florida, I have noticed roofing companies subcontracting the roofing work to crews of foreign extraction (primarily Mexican). While it is possible that some of crew have a legal immigration status and have employment authorizations, it is equally possible that some (if not all) are undocumented - no legal immigration status and no legal employment authorization. So, how do you get the prime contractor to ensure that the subcontractor employees are E-verified and have the appropriate workers compensation insurance? Thank you.

I really like working with Colorado Farm Bureau, but I don't know what the Farm Bureau companies in the other states are like. I also like working with Shelter, but it's been a long time since I've done one with them. With the major carriers, they seem to go up and down. Some years they're really easy, other years they're a pain. I would say that the ones that are consistently hard to work with are: Allstate, Farmers, American Family.
