Thank you as you have been very helpful. I have 3 roofers coming this week to decide on. All local. One has their website of many before during the work and after pictures. Also know of a couple people that used them during insurance claim.

Brother, I am IN this boat as we speak.. recent hail damage and in the process of Trying to find a decent roofer...ive been looking for 3 months, which feels like forever, but as you said, its ofetn no so clear cut and takes alot of vetting and research...what has been very frustrating is trying to find homeoner reviews of the roofers work... I just dont understand how a roofer is suppossed to have been in business for say 20-40years and yet when you try and seek reviews of their work ,you maybe see 5 or 10 reviews! how can that be? shouldnt there be a long and telling trail of evidence of their work? The Exact same thing is true of doctors and dentists when you are seeking reviews on them and they are claiming decades of experience..well, where are the reviews fo ur work? The other issue for me has been that the roofers seem to have their favorite shingle brand and love to praise it, often ive been unable to find a roofer who could Show me an actual example of a home they did in a color I was interested in.. trying to make a roof color choice based on online images or worse yet, a little piece of shingle square has been hard to say the least!

You've raised some good points. 1. A roofer should be able to give you addresses of homes he's roofed so you can see their work 2. I wouldn't be too hard on a business who doesn't have many reviews. Human nature is such that people will eagerly leave bad reviews, but getting them motivated to leave a good one is challenging. If they don't have many Google reviews, check their websites and see if they have testimonials there. If they do, you want to see that they have the person's full name - not just first name. Also, I have yet to see you address this question: I have a 25-year-old roof with standard asphalt shingles (one layer only). Some people tell me to remove it down to the decking and put up SPS shingles; some say to add a 2nd layer, but some say you can only put std. shingles on the 2nd layer, not SPS ones! Some say SPS shingles are fine on a 2nd layer. Yikes! How do I know which advice to take?

Wondering after the roofer completes the roof and did not follow through with what was talked about like removing the gutter guards and blowing out the gutters which should have been done and now we have issues , plugged up downspouts because they never completely removed them as was mentioned and now roof debris is in the gutters , this was under an insurance claim ??

I enjoy your videos. My roof is 15 years old, and from the ground looks good (shingles are not coming up, nothing looks wavy, etc). I would like to find someone to evaluate it who is not affiliated with a roofing company. Is there such a thing as an independent roofing inspector?

I actually just met a roofing inspector last week in my city. You probably wouldn't be able to find one by Googling, "roofing inspector" if you don't want to use a roofing company, as that's probably all Google will show you. Try looking for a public adjuster in your city and then ask him if he knows of someone that just does inspections. He may even do it for you. Hope this helps!

I'd like to re-emphasize something I've said in other videos. Just because a roofer is a door-to-door roofer doesn't make him a bad or unethical roofer. The problem you have when you go d2d is that you're perceived by the homeowners as pretty much no different from the other 10 roofers that have knocked on their door. If you're going to go D2D, try to have a plan on how you can present yourself to be different - and BETTER - than the other guys within the first 5 seconds after the homeowner answers the door. That's all the time you have.

I finally had my roof replaced. November 17th. My roofer knew that on the 20th I would no longer be covered by that insurance company. My roofing contractor told me not to worry. A supplement needed to be done since my insurance company shorted us on shingles. Well, I paid him my deductible and the first portion that the insurance provides. My roofing contractor sent the supplement and proof the job was completed on the 21st. Well, it’s been a month since the job was done and I haven’t heard anything or received the depreciation so I can give it to the roofer. Does it normally take that long? I called my insurer the day after the job was completed, also sent an email with pictures too. No response to either one. FYI- my roofer has tons of reviews, many satisfied customers, on google, a Facebook page with pictures of the jobs they complete, before and after. My home being one of them now. They were extremely helpful in arranging everything with my previous insurer. Just worried about the final payout. The supplement added an additional $2000 to the initial estimate.

Here's something to remember... The longer your insurance company keeps your money, the more time they have to invest it and make money from it. There's actually a book devoted to the tactics used by insurance companies. It's call "Delay, Deny, and Defend." Generally, your contract with the insurance company dictates how long they have to make payments to you. Check your policy and call your agent.

Wind is my biggest problem . I live up on a hill and the winds here can be really strong . Finding a roofer around here has been a nightmare . Most are out of business .Wind here can gust from 40 to 60 or more MPH . Only way I learn things is by watching KZbin metal verses shingles again which one when you come from NJ to VA there are differnces heat verses cold . I know from being around Kaplin builders in Nj for over 30 years that a dark roof is used more there because of cold weather . But here they seem to go more with colors . Metal roof or shingle . Now there seem to be more metal because of cost and availability and fast installs . Most are putting in these screw down metal roofs because they are cheap and the contractors are putting them right over thier shingle roof . They are cutting corners . My sister had a metal roof put on over her shinigles and the guy cut off her exhaust vents for her plumbing so they are under her metal roof and with the heat she has what looks like tar running down all her trimboards and some looks and smells like mold . She has vaulted ceilings so no attic to even see what is going on . The metal roof has been on for over 5 years now and it is getting worse . If i choose metal i don't want that happening to me .

@@homesteadroofing never heard of brava . but roofer came and did my house in 1 day and next day had gutter guy put up new 6 inch gutters to replace my 6 inch gutters . Only problem is now it is not supposed to rain forr over 2 weeks .
