During the „where is Kate“ times he decided to attack Catherine in a sarcastic rant showing contempt for her. And once Catherine revealed she had cancer he was all understanding and empathetic. Yes, I remember when Mark Dolan went practically Shakesperian in his attempt to ingratiate himself with the higher ups. No one is indispensible, especially in that business, and it didn't help him longterm. I'm sad for him on a human level, because being fired, and just before Christmas as well is awful, but I had very little respect for him after all that overblown nonsense. What remains a dilemma for me, is the propensity towards "washing dirty linen in public". It was nice and peaceful in the good ole days when no one knew about the in-house fighting - not to be compared with DA, just about how Mum or Dad sent you to your room for bad table-manners, or how disagreements in the family about Christmas arrangements should be made, or even the dissension about how to spend the Bank Holiday weekend. What has happened to dignity? When did journalists and presenters start feeling that being indescribably horrible for whatever reason, was OK? It all makes me want to dig my head in the sand and just watch old movies. I think I'd start with John Wayne.
