You know what the irony about the Gaunt ring horcrux is? I doubt Tom realized a Hallow was set in the ring, but he wouldn't have cared if he did. The resurrection stone meant nothing to him as there was no dead person he wanted to talk to. The true irony I think is Dumbledore possessed the one he truly wanted, the Elder Wand. And Tom possessed the one Dumbledore wanted more than the others just so he could talk to his sister. They each prized what the other had rather than what they already owned.

He would've wanted to keep the ring, as well as the cloak. For one thing, he's a collector of rare and powerful artefacts as shown by his choice of horcruxes. Furthermore the existence of the ring would've proved the existence of the wand, the one he wanted. Lastly he would've wanted all 3 as possessing all 3 makes you the master of death, which he would've interpreted as overcoming death to achieve immortality.

I think what makes sense is that if he split his soul each time he made a horcrux, then it would make sense for the diary to be the most powerful. It would be a soul distribution that goes something 1) 50 2) 25 3) 12.5 4) 6.25 5) 3.125 6) 1.5625 7) .78125 Meaning that the horcruxes increasingly contained less and less of his soul if we take the term “split” to mean an even split. I think that Rowling used the term split to mean a 50/50 split rather than severing/splintering of his soul: IMO, this is the only thing that explains why the diary was so much more powerful and nearly resurrected young Tom.

Layering spells seemed pretty much ordinary actually. Protection spells are generally 4 or 5 different spells used at once to fortify someone's location. Ie Hogwarts during the Battle of Hogwarts. Even broomsticks are an example of multiple spells being layered on top of each other. They have to bewitch the broom to be able to levitate, and then they have to speed up the broom. Not to mention that higher quality broomsticks actually are bewitched to be more comfortable, instead of feeling like you're sitting on a pole, it will feel like you're sitting on a comfortable driver's seat. Then they have to bewitch the broom to be able to be controlled by whomever rides the broom and be able to come to a complete stop. So as I've said, multiple spells and items have been layered. I think the proper wording you were looking for would be "Voldemort had used magic in ways that has never been done before." I know it sounds nitpicky, but it would basically be spreading misinformation if you say Voldemort was the first wizard to layer multiple spells. It would be more accurate to say that he was the first wizard to layer spells in such a nasty and dangerous manner.

That's a good idea for a video. What if Voldemort got the Diary back from Lucius and used it to revive another part of his soul. Like what almost happened in Chamber of secrets And how since it was his first Horcrux, this Tom Riddle would be half of his soul as opposed to the fraction that Voldemort has But there would be two living Voldemorts scheming together. Imagine if Voldemort had the Diary right after he got his body back and used like Karkaroff or someone or to resurrect the Tom from the Diary. It was clearly two different people because Voldemort had no idea Tom Riddle from the Diary died. That was stated in the books as one of the reasons Lucius was already in trouble with Voldemort before he failed at the department of mysteries.

I always assumed that the splitting of one's soul when creating a Horcrux would break it into two roughly equal halves, with one half being bound to the Horcrux and the other remaining in the body of its creator. Thus, while Voldemort's later Horcruxes would have been made with increasing skill and complexity, they would have also been less powerful than the earlier ones, as the soul fragment contained within each was smaller than the one before. That would have especially been true of the Gaunt Ring, as it was the first of Voldemort's Horcruxes, made when he had read about them but had never actually made one before, and prior to his conversation with Professor Slughorn about them. Thus, despite being made into a Horcrux by a teenage student wizard who had only theoretical book knowledge of the process, the ring was able to mortally curse Albus Dumbledore, probably the greatest wizard in history, who was only able to delay the inevitable, even with the help of one of the all-time greatest masters of Potions in Severus Snape. The diary was also incredibly strong, but far more refined and subtle than the ring, having been made by the still young but considerably more skilled and experienced Riddle. In a material sense, these first two were far less heavily defended than the rest of the Horcruxes (excluding the accidental and unknown one within Harry Potter), possibly because they were much stronger in terms of raw power than the ones Voldemort made later. He may indeed have learned to split off fragments of his soul that were significantly less than half of what was left later in the game when his skill at creating Horcruxes was at its height, but it seems unlikely he would have had the knowhow to do this when he was first starting out, as the original concept of Horcruxes was to make ONE, and the idea of a single person making multiple Horcruxes wouldn't have been in the book Riddle read to learn the theory. I suspect Riddle was hesitant to create a second Horcrux until he had spoken to Slughorn to gain more theoretical knowledge before he took the plunge into those unchartered waters...

The Cup is unique in that every other Horcrux was either protected by Voldemort himself or hidden to his satisfaction (in the case of the Diadem, which was a famous case of hubris). In contrast, the Cup didn't defend itself really as far as we know, nor did it have Voldemort's personal touch in protecting or hiding it. Instead it was defended by Gringotts in the same way that the goblins would defend any treasure in their custody. A rare instance of Voldemort trusting another person.

For me the Gaunt ring was the most powerful Horcrux. People don't seem to realize that the curse on the ring is actually meant to kill the wearer rapidly. The only reason Dumbledore lived for over a year was because he was Dumbledore. With his vast knowledge and skill, he was able to hold out until Snape managed to confine it to his hand. However, even with the skills of the most Powerful Wizard of All Time and a master of the dark arts put together, the two were never able to come up with a permanent counter curse. If anyone besides Dumbledore had put that ring on, they'd probably be dead in a few hours.
@emankcin17012 жыл бұрын

Great video! I think the diary led to a greater manifestation of Voldemort because it was more truly his. Tom Riddle was the original owner of the diary; he didn't take it from another person. (Even if he stole it from the shop, he would be the first owner of an item intended for retail.) Perhaps the other horcrux items retained some of their rightful owners' energy, so Voldemort's soul fragment had to share energetic space. I also wonder if the diary, being the first horcrux, had more of Voldemort's soul attached to it. Perhaps he put less of his soul in the following horcruxes, so the diary contained more of Voldemort's essence. Who knows? It's fun to theorize! Thanks for the video!

With what u said about mixing magic, in the 90's cartoon of Gargoyles said in 1 episode that, mixing magic can b dangerous. Although that's a different show with its own magical rules but u get my point. So if that and HPverse do share the dangers, Voldemort did find a way around that. After all, Hermione is a child prodigy (too smart for her's and those irl age like that of an adult), Voldemort was a prodigy in magic. Like irl, people r gifted in 1 or more subject but not a whole lot, and magic was his. Hi Dean. = I had a thought about the horcrux strength thing, but I need your expert help. The Diary had the freshest and biggest piece of the soul because it was the first tear. Each piece of soul has his current personality and level of learning reflected. Voldemort had different levels of crafty evil with each horcrux. He was a kid all about taking over and being known when he made the diary. The order of crafty evil continues - Ring - the gold of the trinket like the gold of Hufflepuff’s cup is greed. The locket was another of his heirlooms, but his soul chunk may have combined with Slytherin’s magic to create such fear. He also was at the height of his powers and left it in a place where he first terrified people. Harry was a mistake due to an unstable soul. Nagini was a sort of temporary storage. Since she retained her rational mind, she was probably pretty pissed because she knew that if the other bits of soul were destroyed, when Voldy needed to use them. She may have not liked being a snake for forever, she probably didn’t like the thought of being used in this fashion. She was probably assured that the other soul chunks were safe. She would do her best to keep them safe. I have two questions: Given that he wore the ring after putting a chunk of his soul in it - the diary got the soul chunk and he held onto the ring. So what murders did the rip for which horcrux and did the soul chunk have to be popped in the object at rip time? Also - did the soul chunks themselves “know” about the threat to themselves and self activate their protective properties? Would the soul chunk know about the chunks ripped before it because it “witnessed” the rip and had memory of when the parts were together. Voldy was too damaged to really think about it, but the chunks would have nothing better to do than dwell on where the bits were. Nagini was torqued because she knew she was close to that last bit and Voldy finally listened to her. Thoughts, Dean? Your videos are the only ones that get me to continue thinking. Thanks for taking the time, Ace!! Lizzie

I've always been curious about why James and Lily didn't choose one of themselves for the secret keeper. Naming someone who's within the safehouse seemed like the obvious solution as it's the perfect way to protect the secret since nobody knows their location to begin with. I assumed that since they didn't go that route that maybe there's a rule against it. On another note, I've also always wondered why, in Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore didn't remove Harry's memory of his dream and put it in the pensieve to see this unidentified man Harry saw, which obviously would've led to the discovery that BC Jr. had escaped; that Wormtail was alive and had reunited with Voldemort; their location if it looked familiar...Or why not have Harry produce tears containing the memory of the dream as Snape did in Deathly Hallows? Again I assumed because that wasn't done it couldn't be, but wasn't sure🤷♀️.

Why couldn't kreacher destroy the locket? He said he could disaparate from the cave simply because he was told to return home. He was told to destroy the locket too but couldn't? Btw this is not my question just something I found the other day and was interested.

I kind of thought the amount in them got smaller and smaller. So the first one had half of Voldermort's soul in it. When he split it again, the next had a quarter (of his original soul), half of which he still had. Then an 1/8. By the time we get to the fourth Horcrux, it would have had just one sixteenth. Carrying on like this the 5th Horcrux would be 1/32. The 6th 1/64 and the 7th only 1/128 of Voldermort's original soul. As we know he accidentally made an 8th one, Harry. But Harry would have had only 1/256 parts of Tom Riddle's original soul. That's one of the reasons I think it had so little effect on him.

Didn’t Ron use parseltongue to open the chamber of secrets in deathly hallows part 2 or was that only in the movie? If he did, wouldn’t that imply that parseltongue can be learned?

Dumb move by Voldemort placing protection for the ring. That's the way how Dumbledore detected it. Well, he could have found it anyway because he correctly guessed the location.

Could have severed Dumbledore's hand and replace it with a golden hand just like Pettigrew's.

Why could Voldemort not have Nagini it's own Horcrux or two? Making her protected from death once or twice and enough for Voldemort to still live the battle without dying?

That creates more questions. Did Tom Riddle wear Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem on his head to increase his own powers before he turned it into a Horcrux? Did Snape use advanced dark magic to stop the curse of the Gaunt's ring from spreading in Dumbledore's body? Horace Slughorn was the first person who might have known that Voldemort created a Horcrux or more. Did he tell Regulus Black what he knew? Creating horkruxes is one of the most advanced and least known dark magic arts. Even Snape, a powerful wizadrd with great knowledge of dark arts didn't know about it. How Regulus Black found out?

Voldemort looked down on Kreacher and assumed he’d die in the cave so he spoke freely about the locket in front of him. Kreacher passed this information onto regulus

@@kamronspencer4910 Do you think Kreacher knew what a Horcrux is? It's a very dark magic. Not many wizards or inhuman magical beings would know anything.
