Not always kept in the same centre. Especially children. Children are only permitted to be detained in detention centres in the UK for up to 72 hours - if with family members. Unaccompanied children can only be detained for up to 24 hours. There is one family detention centre in the UK for men, women & their children ( but only very short term for kids as noted above, just prior to deportation I think?) Unaccompanied refugee children are put in to local authority care, usually foster care. A couple of detention centres that house both men & women, but a few ( or most?) that are separated, for men or women only. This one is obviously only for men. At Yarl’s Wood most of the detainees are women. I think you will find a lot more mothers or couples with young children in the hotels. Which is part of why the recent arson attack on the Rotherham hotel was so horrific. It was attempted murder - including of children. There was at least one young boy of around 7 in the Rotherham hotel when it was attacked.
