What does welding the differential do?
@petegjengdahl6 ай бұрын
@chriskolaska897 It locks all the gears together permanently. It's definitely not ideal for corners on pavement, but if it's always off-road, it shouldn't matter.

You should go ahead and weld the rear differential, and put a front locker in. After that your truck will literally go anywhere.

I also think it would be great if Ram came out with a Gen 2 Retro Ram with all the modern interior touches of a Gen 5.
@tonytrumble6 ай бұрын
I think it'll make it with through the mud hole with at least one locker in it. It'll definitely make it with two lockers, but with open differentials in both im pretty sure you're going to need to be winched out.
@mathieuduguay8256 ай бұрын
I think it would look killer with the front grille and the bottom of the doors painted black. 2 minutes spray can job is all it needs ;)
@bladejames82086 ай бұрын
Mike if you run across an early 2000s Dakota R/T you should scoop it up. They came with the same 5.9L Magnum V8. They were only 2wd but, weigh much less than the 1500 Ram. Take the Dakota, swap out trans for 4x4 1500 trans, run front drive shaft/axles and put a 6+ " lift on it to make a trail beast out of it.
@ssoffshore51116 ай бұрын
I'm not big into this off-roading crap, but I have to say I'm really impressed with what that otherwise stock Ram was able to do! And, not even break, or breakdown!
@alexchaney95206 ай бұрын
Mike now all you have to do is put some lockers in it and the ram would be even more fun offroading. Love the videos been watching for 5 years now!

Mike, your driveway never looked better than with those two Ram trucks at the end! REAL hardware that REAL people in the REAL world can relate to. You took an affordable useful rig they can relate to, buy and use everyday, spent a few bucks and conquered most anything. Best upload in a long time (Ben may be making you look good?)! Very cool mods on the old girl! Add those rear window stickers to the 717Supply catalog! 🔥🔥🔥

The second gen Rams are some of the toughest and most capable trucks ever made imo. Where I’m from in East Tennessee you can still find many of them still on the roads and trails.
@timmydemattos6914 ай бұрын
My first truck was a 98 gas 2500 on a 7” lift, got it for $3500 and that truck made it more places than most jeeps. The 2nd gens are cheap and capable for sure.

Reminds me of mine. I had a white 4dr 99 ram sport 4x4 with the 5.9L 360 gas motor. I had a custom 14.5in lift in the front and a 15in lift in the rear. I ran 40 x 15 in TSL super swampers that weren't radials. I drove it daily for a while. So mich fun wish I still had it sometimes.

I challenge you to ship it to Utah or w/e and meet up with Kevin of LiteBrite and run it against The Step Child. I bet you loose, lol. Grant it him being a better driver in general and driving The Step Child for years, he knows his rig well and definitely has an advantage over you. But knowing the shit The Step Child has been through, Kevin will leave you somewhere if it doesn't have a bypass. And I don't think they have ever damaged a metal body panel, only the plastic fenders that snap back on after a rock rips them off.

@matthewdurkee56736 ай бұрын
But why pay 35k for a sxs when he gets this type of content for 1k . I don't think he has the right audience for a sxs . He already loses views doing the off road stuff . It's just tougher for him in the winter. Oh and he already has the best sxs ever in the Blazer.
