Would someone please explain to me how a blood sample from another man, and a partial profile sample too degraded to reach any conclusions vindicates John Carpenter? It simply shows that there are two unidentified blood samples - one of a different man and one unable to be identified. That does not mean the degraded sample is not Bob Crane's, does it? My understanding is that the results simply don't show 'conclusively' that the blood belonged to Bob Crane.

They misstated it. The degraded sample was not good enough to create enough data points to use against any DNA database and get an exact match. However, there are many data points in a DNA sample, and they all must match the person in question. If any single data point does not match, then it's not that person. The degraded DNA's few available data points were enough to say it was not from Crane. So neither sample matched Crane, but only one sample can be used in the future to match to someone, while the other sample cannot be used for finding an exact match.

Bob may not have physically hurt anyone, but his activities may have threatened the reputation or livelihood of some of the people he was carrying on with. He had pornographic tapes that, if fallen into the wrong hands, could have been very harmful to someone, maybe more than one participant. There may have been a desperate attempt to retrieve one or more of those tapes. And when that failed, whoever was involved took it out on Bob. OR -- and this cannot be presently ruled out -- his second wife may have had designs on Bob's entire estate which she would have gotten with his death, but NOT with a divorce. She may have been greedy. Did any of those investigators bother to thoroughly check her out -- find out her background, talk to anyone who knew her well -- get some idea of her character? Did they even bother to talk to HER, directly, and get a feel for whether or not she would be truthful with them or lie to them, and observe her body language and other telltale clues she may have given them? What was her emotional state upon learning of Bob's death? These were all things they should have looked into, which may have been quite revealing, had they bothered. Incompetent police work.

I am very interested in this case as Hogan Heroes is one of my most fav TV show, and once I have heard that Bob Crane (Hogan) was murdered, I grew very interested in this, and as a former detective, I am giving some pointer for this case. From the crime scene. Crane's room was unlocked, no forced entry. Which suggest either Crane let the person in, or the person have a keys Crane was killed when he was in his bed and without defensive wound, suggested that Crane trusted the person who killed him. Crane had sex just prior to his death, as white flaky substance was found on his thigh Crane was a voyeur, and display voyeurism behaviour and one of his album was missing, suggesting that whoever killed Crane, knows his Voyeurism habits. Crane was killed by 2 blows to his head with a blunt object, strong enough to create irreparable brain damage. Suggesting it is more likely the prep is a male than female. Crane was struck twice and have a video cord wrap around his neck with deep in print (IIRC it was 3mm deep, i could be wrong), which suggest overkill and suggest the reason for murder is personal. POI I have identified 1.) John Carpenter - Crane friend and wingman in their sexual conquest. Motive is somehow weak, not really buy into the "friendship-turn-sour" murder motive. However, he knows his voyeurism and know where he keep their trophy and this also comes with a suspicious circumstance (Such as the murder weapon is likely camera equipment, and his hired car have some unknown blood stain as well as) 2.) Patricia Annette Olson - Crane second soon to be ex-wife and her son is the sole beneficiary of Crane's estate, have a bad divorce from Crane, she is still married to Crane, motive is high (financial) however, there are alibi issue as she called Crane 4 hours prior to that night from Washington and there are no record of her flying into Arizona. Also, the method of death require a very durable force, not particularly point to being a woman. 3.) Victoria Ann Berry - Crane co-star and rumoured to be involved romantically with Crane, Berry is also the one that found Crane's body. Unknown motive, possible a sexual encounter gone bad (Crane had sex just prior to being murdered). Berry also have a few circumstantial evidence pointing toward her, the way she navigate the room after no one is answering the door as well as the nature of her visit.

The "Chain of Evidence" was broken....the car was found in New Mexico??? How many people were in that vehicle since this murder? How many other people bled in that vehicle? How many times was it cleaned since the murder? Because the evidence wasn't preserved properly, how can you put any weight on it?
@Chasstful3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! The DNA reveal DOES NOT prove Carpenter's innocence, far from it. There is a mountain of circumstantial evidence against Carpenter, the prosecution should've gone forward with that.

It's ridiculous! It doesn't take strength to pick up a tripod and bash someone's head in. Especially someone who was sleeping.

Just because there were other DNA profiles in Carpenter's car doesn't mean that he didn't kill Bob Crane. Maybe he just didn't track into DNA from the crime scene into his car. Also, the police weren't looking for DNA. They just found a few blood spots, which could have come from another event.

It's TWO women. One strangled him with the cord the other beat him with the tripod. They prob were gonna kill John too but he was late that night...maybe not. Maybe it was just meant for crane. They were probably after a tape. John showed up eventually before 4, found bob and ran off. He didn't admit to being there cuz it's place ONLY him at the scene of a murder. I don't think he did it - they a good thing going on. If he found the body, grabbed his head...there you go with the blood in the car. It's actually very easy to see imo... They prob all had sex, he went to bed - they went looking for the tape, he got up and shit got out of hand and they ended up killing him. With the strangling and bludgeoning - police should have looked for women he knew that showed up for work with a black eye the next day.

So, the jury thinks that John Carpenter did it, but they acquitted him. I expect police to be that immovable, but the juror? Kudos to Bob Crane’s son. Also, the degraded sample can be redone by a better lab. Also, y not send it to an ancestry company. Yes, kind of expensive, but……

@apriltorres36842 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if John Carpenter killed Bob Crane because he refused his advances. The cord wrapped tightly around Bob's neck could indicate some type of S/M game gone wrong?? The police noticed semen on Bob's thigh but the medical doctor dismissed the need to collect the evidence. I do believe John Carpenter did commit this unspeakable crime. The last theory I have is someone knew about that one photo album and argued with Bob about it and then killed him ( and if that's the case,then perhaps the semen was Bob's.
