Have you ever wondered why Park Hall is called Park Hall?
Was there a hall?

Great video! What a fantastic looking place the Hall was, shame the dreaded fire reared it's ugly head as usual!

I lived on Parkhall from 1992 to 2001, and my mother-in-law and brother-in-law still do. I knew there was a hall there, but didn't know there had been 3, and didn't know it was a 300 acre estate.

Used to go past the hall as a kid, I always wondered what happened to it. Basically, like all the old buildings around Stoke, utter neglect. People need to learn to respect and own their history because anything of historical value will be ripped from us to make a few quid. You only have to look at Longton Town centre and what has happened over the years. Give it another 5 to 10 years, and it won't exist. It will be turned into a concrete and plastic jungle.

I agree, we really need to look after the historic buildings that we have left! What can you remember about the hall? It's a shame we've only got black and white photos of it, I imagine it was beautiful.

Great vid Jenna. The perplexing thing is, they stored valuable furniture there during the war to prevent it getting bombed, but at the same time, they made a Decoy Air Strip on top of the hills, to prevent the real Aerodrome at Meir from getting bombed. What a strange place to put furniture then, seeing as the whole of Weston Coyney could have been destroyed.

Yes but remember that the government did that in secret! No one knew at the time. Pickfords were a private company so they would have had no idea. Quite funny really looking back now 🤣

My mother used to work at the Safari club in the 60's . She tells me when we drive past the site how she used to walk back to Bentilee late at night in all weathers .

Very nice... spent many, many happy hours in and around the lake in the 70's Still drive past it most days and often walk the dogs there. A crime we lost the Hall itself but I do remember passing it in the car on our regular trips to Hanley to visit my Grandparents. Also remember the two (I think) massive slagheaps that once stood where I now live. Born and bread in Weston Coyney in 67 so the whole area is a massive part of of me. Despite it's many issues and over 50 years later, I still live here and love the place. Highlight of the narration for me was when you said "and... as usually happens in Stoke-on-Trent, it caught fine and was demolished". How true... still happening today and it brakes my heart. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, cheers once again 🍺

I grew up on Park hall in the late 80's and 90's. I can remember as kids we found a few bricks showing above ground and started digging, we started uncovering an arch. Soon all the local kids were digging and it kept getting deeper until after a few days the council came and stopped us. They filled what we'd dug up in leaving the bit of the ice house arch you see in your video.

Oh how amazing thank you! I wonder how deep it goes. They were usually quite deep or went far back.

Do you remember the rope swing next to the arch on that big tree that used to swing out off the ledge and land on the opposite ledge.
