Bought a Rascal last month. Still trying to tune it in but I have no complaints. It was between the Ripley and I decided I wanted 130mm out back and 150mm up front (Fox 36). Amazing combination. Does everything well. Bobs a lot more than the Ripley when climbing, so I'm trying to chase that down. Other than that, I think the Rascal is the standard bearer for the non-Enduro / DH bikes.

Yeah, I think the Rascal fills a nice spot between light trail riding and enduro riding... It's an excellent choice for everything with an emphasis on higher speed and chunk!

@@mtbyumyum Bought The Following from the Sports Den. Mike and Smitty are great. First ride today; PC Jenn's, Keystone, Scott's Pass to Puke Hill and back. Excellent climber. I demo'ed a Ripley from Bikers Edge about at month ago (Salt didn't have a demo). The large was too cramped in the cockpit (I'm 6') and didn't want to jump to XL. At around 1230mm wheelbase, it would have been a limo. I thought the Following climbed in the same class as the Ripley. It descended better, and was super playful and poppy. Yet another amazing video Jason. Its a good bike for sure, but sold mine and went with a Switchblade v2. Or if you could just give me your thoughts on the differences as I know you have ridden the 130 also! Thanks!!!
@mtbyumyum4 жыл бұрын
The sb130 feels like the more precise bike. Not as stable at high speed and more ridged feeling particularly over square edge hits. I would say the sb130 is more similar to the Pivot Trail 429... it's not as forgiving as the Rascal in the rougher terrain. The Rascal feels like the easier bike to ride... the sb130 feels like a race bike... the harder you push it the better it gets sort of feel. Both climb very well... good luck!!

@@mtbyumyum I haven't rode the Rascal yet, but the SB130 definitely feels like a race bike. It's almost kinda (I don't want to say boring so lets just say less fun) unless you're railing it and then it's like a whole different bike. IMHO SB130 is for those who like wide open SPEED. Like a super aggressive XC bike or a mini enduro bike. It's hard for me to call it a trail bike because trail riders usually just like to cruise. lol. Kinda Rigid in the slow speed rock gardens too.

I've ridden both the Delano and Rascal. No comparison. Rascal better in every way. I rode the Delano a dozen times and could never get it to feel right despite numerous tweaks to cockpit and suspension. First ride on the Rascal felt just right. Delano feels cramped. Rascal has less travel but feels like it has much more travel and yet pedals far better. Delano pretty much needs the pro pedal switched on, didn't feel I needed it on the Rascal. Delano feels like a big bike and is a handful on tight turns and at low speed and feels vague. Rascal is snappy and much more precise feeling and fun at all speeds. Now I just can't decide between Ranger, Ripley, or Rascal (haven't tried the Ripley)...

I enjoy riding up as well as down, I like an engaging bike that needs to be piloted and not just sit back and be a passenger. Hey there Jason, Can you comment on how the bike handles slow speed techy stuff? East coaster here so not a lot of long fast downhills. Lots of roots, sharp rocks, slow speed stuff. Thanks!
@mtbyumyum4 жыл бұрын
It's good but I'd probably go with the Switchblade for tech... it climbs and gets through slow speed chunk better than anything out there including my incredibly capable Ibis Ripley. Good luck!

I'm confused by the comment about needing to push the Ripley hard to have fun on it. I switched from a Ripmo last year and the Ripley is a lot more fun to me in Corner Canyon than the Ripmo was. Ripmo felt fun if I really got it going fast.

Question is: if the Ripmo v2 was readily available, would you still have bought the Rascal? It seems like you already sold it and are moving onto the Switchblade. I sense in your voice that the Rascal was "almost there" but perhaps it is too close to the Ripley to keep it as a second (bigger) bike?
@mtbyumyum4 жыл бұрын
You're right. From the first time I rode the Switchblade in St. George Utah back in February, I have not been able to get it out of my head... it's just to good. Excellent trail manners and can still send the gnarliest lines I'm willing to ride and at mach-chicken speeds!! Climbing... forget about it. Nothing this capable down hill should be able to climb this well. For everyday riders looks to get a little sendy and high speed, the Switchblade can't be beat!

How is hucking to flat on that bike? Obviously there is some basic suspension tuning to help, but one of the reasons my Ripmo V2 is my “short travel” bike is because the stupid big drops to flat can be hushed really well with the X2 and the V2. The Ripley bottoms out to harshly for some of my trails. The Ripmo is too much bike for some of the other trails I ride, and it would be great to find something a bit between the Ripley and the Ripmo.
