Bought a Rascal last month. Still trying to tune it in but I have no complaints. It was between the Ripley and I decided I wanted 130mm out back and 150mm up front (Fox 36). Amazing combination. Does everything well. Bobs a lot more than the Ripley when climbing, so I'm trying to chase that down. Other than that, I think the Rascal is the standard bearer for the non-Enduro / DH bikes.

Yeah, I think the Rascal fills a nice spot between light trail riding and enduro riding... It's an excellent choice for everything with an emphasis on higher speed and chunk!

I think you nailed the description. It is the most versatile bike I’ve ridden. It changes attitude a lot just by changing sag from 30 to 25% more plush vs more poppy. I still love mine after over a year of shredding.

@@mtbyumyum Bought The Following from the Sports Den. Mike and Smitty are great. First ride today; PC Jenn's, Keystone, Scott's Pass to Puke Hill and back. Excellent climber. I demo'ed a Ripley from Bikers Edge about at month ago (Salt didn't have a demo). The large was too cramped in the cockpit (I'm 6') and didn't want to jump to XL. At around 1230mm wheelbase, it would have been a limo. I thought the Following climbed in the same class as the Ripley. It descended better, and was super playful and poppy. I bought it even though demos aren't available. The large fit like at glove. Hope you can get your hands on one eventually and do a comparo to the Rascal and Ripley. Love your channel!

@@EdwargGz I've only spun a Rascal around a bike shop parking lot so I can't offer sound advice. However, the Following continues to amaze me. Today, I made it up a 2700 foot climb in Park City as fast as I've ever done in my Scalpel. I was able to hang with two guys riding Santa Cruz Bronson's on the downhills. I'm very impressed with the bike.

Couldn't agree more with the build. The lyrik up front makes this bike much more capable than the 140 Pike. I thought the Rascal was close to the Ripmo before with the Pike, now with the Lyrik, I think it is right there.

Yet another amazing video Jason. Its a good bike for sure, but sold mine and went with a Switchblade v2. Had a few pivot bolt issues right out of the gate, but my main issue was rear flex.I'm a bigger guy and the amount of rear flex just wasn't my cup of brew. The new SB is stout. Climbs crazy good, down hill its a PR bike.. Flow, with the right wheels and tires, is just as fun. The SB has a big sweet spot for me, my body make up and my trails. Cheers Jason!

Or if you could just give me your thoughts on the differences as I know you have ridden the 130 also! Thanks!!!
@mtbyumyum
@mtbyumyum 4 жыл бұрын
The sb130 feels like the more precise bike. Not as stable at high speed and more ridged feeling particularly over square edge hits. I would say the sb130 is more similar to the Pivot Trail 429... it's not as forgiving as the Rascal in the rougher terrain. The Rascal feels like the easier bike to ride... the sb130 feels like a race bike... the harder you push it the better it gets sort of feel. Both climb very well... good luck!!
@glassbarrel
@glassbarrel 3 жыл бұрын
@@mtbyumyum I haven't rode the Rascal yet, but the SB130 definitely feels like a race bike. It's almost kinda (I don't want to say boring so lets just say less fun) unless you're railing it and then it's like a whole different bike. IMHO SB130 is for those who like wide open SPEED. Like a super aggressive XC bike or a mini enduro bike. It's hard for me to call it a trail bike because trail riders usually just like to cruise. lol. Kinda Rigid in the slow speed rock gardens too.

@@paulladakakos9581 I have about 7 rides on the Following V3. 130 Pike. It's at 28.6 lbs. Climbs in the same class as the Ripley I demo'ed. Excellent through twisty trails, and I'm right with my friend on his Ripmo on the downhills. He'd leave me in the dust on a few more difficult downhills, of course. Best bike I've owned. Started riding in '86 here in Utah. The problem is finding one. I bought mine after demoing a Pivot Trail 429, their Switchback, and the Ripley, and didn't have the ability to demo a Following. I've ridden both the Delano and Rascal. No comparison. Rascal better in every way. I rode the Delano a dozen times and could never get it to feel right despite numerous tweaks to cockpit and suspension. First ride on the Rascal felt just right. Delano feels cramped. Rascal has less travel but feels like it has much more travel and yet pedals far better. Delano pretty much needs the pro pedal switched on, didn't feel I needed it on the Rascal. Delano feels like a big bike and is a handful on tight turns and at low speed and feels vague. Rascal is snappy and much more precise feeling and fun at all speeds. Now I just can't decide between Ranger, Ripley, or Rascal (haven't tried the Ripley)...

Im looking for a bike to complement my Pivot Trail 429 (2018 model with the shock under the top-tube). I think we are very similar riders and are looking for very much the same outlook on trails. I enjoy riding up as well as down, I like an engaging bike that needs to be piloted and not just sit back and be a passenger. I prefer corners and slow steep tech more than flat-out straight-line speed. I used to race XC but no prefer all day rides, I race enduro a bit with my son who has a Pivot SB V2. Ive ridden his bike and and prefer the more engaging feeling I have on the T429. So Im looking for something to complement my Pivot Trail 429 that will be a bit more capable at speed and allow me to go a bit faster on enduro races. Is the Revel to close to the Trail 429 do you think? -- many thanks, love your videos and reviews!

Jason, I have had the Ripley on order since June but it is not pushed to October. I just landed a deal on a Rascal and am considering cancelling the Ripley. I ride a lot of smoother trails in NC where the Ripley would be amazing but am worried of getting beat up in occasional trips to the mountains. I saw you upgraded the Ripley air shaft to 140mm. How close is it as far as descending now with the Rascal? If it is close I will probably keep the Ripley on order and wait until it comes to decide.
@mtbyumyum
@mtbyumyum 4 жыл бұрын
I would say even with the 140mm fork the Ripley gets bucked around more than the Rascal... You might consider the Pivot Switchblade.... climbs slightly better than the rascal and is incredible through the chunky stuff... geometry on the switchblade is perfect for an every day trail bike!!

How is hucking to flat on that bike? Obviously there is some basic suspension tuning to help, but one of the reasons my Ripmo V2 is my “short travel” bike is because the stupid big drops to flat can be hushed really well with the X2 and the V2. The Ripley bottoms out to harshly for some of my trails. The Ripmo is too much bike for some of the other trails I ride, and it would be great to find something a bit between the Ripley and the Ripmo.
