I'm one of those who gasp and cringe when older kits are opened, but at least I understand your thinking, and that you know if a kit is truly "rare" or not. Thank you so much for including the historical background on the aircraft and for your very detailed explanation of everything that we are looking at, from the box art to the kit itself. Keep up the great work my friend! ***EDIT*** Your indepth knowledge of release dates, variations and box art is simply amazing! A joy to watch!

Wow! Letting out all that preserved 1962 air (or somewhat later) out of the plastic bag. Thanks for the sacrifice to show everything about this vintage Revell-Academy, F-100 kit.

@@CelebratingVintageModelKits Yes, that had to be cool! I have several vintage Revell "S" kits in my stash that still have everything sealed in that original plastic bag. They include the AA Lockheed Electra, EAL Super Constellation and Fairchild F-27.

Cool review. Agree with the purpose of these kits, unless they’re in a museum-style public display, they’re to be built and enjoyed as a hobby. Looks like I will acquire an Atlantis repop.
@CelebratingVintageModelKitsКүн бұрын
The limiting factor on building some of these is the decals. There are some available that are pretty good reprints but often they are more expensive than what I paid for the kit! Atlantis is selling the decals for their repops for $5.99. Now thats a deal!

I remember flattening the heads of axles on Frog kits using one of my mother's nail files which I had "commandeered" - Oddly enough one of the few the things I got quite good at. I still have that file and used it this year on a Sherman Tank build. What a way to do gear down!
@CelebratingVintageModelKitsКүн бұрын
@@peterhewson3216 I used to be pretty good at it back in the day. There is a build video of the kit coming soon. Its of the 1987 reissue and the gear has been changed so you don’t have to use a hot knife. I guess they must have worried about being sued by a mom!

@@CelebratingVintageModelKits Amazing what us kids used for modelling back in the day- stretching sprue on gas rings, razor blades, sanding and the like.

The USAFE airbase where I work (RAF Lakenheath, England, UK; home to the 48th FW - F-15E & F-35A) has an old Super Sabre as the 'gate guardian' at the main entrance to the base. Always nice to see as I enter and exit the base! This old Revell kit is nice to see as well; I'd forgotten that they once used to have the decal/transfer placements embossed on the surfaces...brings back old memories! That canopy was surprisingly clean and clear for something that was loose in the bag for 63 years!! Great video... 👍
@CelebratingVintageModelKitsКүн бұрын
@@stevesstuff1450 It’s a classic looking place that is perfect for a gate guard. The raised markings make it difficult for the decals to set. I’m going to try and paint the markings on one of them using the raised markings as a guide.

Oh the joy of trying to do that rear end heat staining accurately on the F100 .. These planes ALWAYS had heavily discoloured rear ends ...

In the early 60s a pilot few over Cannon Air Force Base at Mack 1 plus which lifted me and my friend off the ground and shattered numerous glass windows and doors. My friend and I thought it was a great experience but the Air Force had different ideas about the pilot as he was stripped of his flying status. But he was my hero.🇺🇸👍
