Revell 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra SC Build

Here is a Revell 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra SC. This is the Semi-competition model and is my favorite version. I built this one back in 2010 and did it just about out of the box.

I recently watched HPI"s build of the newest release. Something neat about it is it has the twin stripes without the rondel or number. They come in both blue and white as well! He built a white one with blue stripes and it really popped! I too had a very tough time with my decals when I built this S/C and left them off. 😢 I love that line about the so many build you envision. When it comes to Cobras, I am building an homage if not an exact replica of the first car Carrol built, and which now resides in his Las Vegas facility last I heard a few years back. A competition small block which you showed and a competition big block car. A tip that someone gave me about the induction set up of your build. The "turkey roaster" pan that surrounds the carb is fairly thin in scale, thinner than the kit piece, and an aluminum color. There is a Randy Leffingwell coffee table book that has been my Bible when it comes to building Shelbys. Not sure if it's still in print.

Thanks. Yes the kit turkey pan is way too thick. On my Cobra Daytona Coupe, I bought some this sheet aluminum to make one since the kit does not have one.

Thank you! I can't believe I missed them. I know the factory ones were tinted. I'm now painting them along with the coolant pressure cap. Not to mention I checked my street 427 Cobra also as I built it at the same time. I'm painting those sun visors as well! Thanks again.

@TheMuscleCarModeler You're not the only one who forgets those kind of things. I painted the ones on my blue diecast Cobra tonight too & I need to foil the frame on it also. I had to check my black Cobra but they were ok.

Thanks. No, I haven't built the 1/16 MPC kit. I did have one once but ended up selling it.

Yes. Had a few pictures that didn’t display and had to fix it. Was at the end so if the watcher didn’t stay to the end they didn’t see it. But to fix it I had to upload the fixed video and remove the old one. So the view count and comments start over just like a new different video.

Hi. Do you recommend wet sanding prior to the clear coat, and do you apply decals before or after clear coat? Thank you!

I try to avoid wet sanding base coat. If I do I usually spray another light coat. I do prefer to put the decals on under the clear coat. I don’t always do this as it really depends on the build.

I noticed in my current build, there is no gas pedal, just brake and clutch? What yours got?

Mine is the same. Kit has no gas petal.

@@TheMuscleCarModeler It seems odd huh? Even the clutch and brake pedals seem an odd fit too, When done cannot be seen. I dulled the chrome and added satin black to the appearance of the rubber pads anyway. We crazy modlers.

@@TheMuscleCarModeler Seen a 1/16th scale available at auction on the goodwill site the other day. It's not much bigger though. This si @ 1/24th scale is a tiny model actually.
