I am 68 yrs old now, but I bought a Kenworth with trailer in my early Thirties, I painted it the same Green as the one on a tv program back then, but I had used Thin air filter sponge as insulation around the walls with Camel leather throughout the cab. I ran the top clearance lights wiring along the ceiling and down the back left corner of the cab under the chassis frame .

Your K100 looks amazing. Very nice blue/white color theme, I like it a lot. Frame stretch makes it perfect. Flat top looks much better in my opinion than Aerodyne roof. I've noticed some brittle plastic fresh out of the AMT box, but not on all kits. There are are at least a dozen companies that manufacture the plastic resin pellets used in the injection molding process and the recipe can vary slightly from time to time. Or, a company such as AMT might switch suppliers and experience problems as they transition to the new resin. So far as the molds being worn, well, that's AMT. But the brittleness of the plastic might come from the molder's attempts to get the molten plastic to flow smoothly through the mold.

A giveaway that the cab body is actually for an aerodyne: on the driver side the little sleeper vent door is behind the grab bars, but on the passenger side the vent door is between the two grab bars. On the real flat tops (110'' cab versions) it is behind the bars on both sides. On the aerodyne it is between the bars because of the configuration of the coat cabinet and shelves on that side of the interior. I have the aerodyne version of this kit, and i can lift the roof off to view the interior.

Your KW Cabover looks great, I’ve noticed here in the states that model car paints are not what they used to be ever since the govt had the zinc or whatever removed due to being a hazard to children. But , have you ever thought of building a cab-over with the cloth & leather and adding working miniature lights on them.
@karlturon4273 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thurman! I totally agree with you that MOST paint has now changed (in the USA and Canada) and not for the better (except in environmental terms of course). It will take some getting used to as I prefer the older paint formulas much better. I haven't thought of using the materials you mention for an interior on a model but I have thought of working, miniature lighting options. Cheers!

@@thecurtray Hi Curt. I have always thought of using Bare Metal Foil for masking jobs but because it's expensive and so thin I have not tried it. Canadian Krylon still uses the older formulation which is awesome for models. The American stuff has been reformulated and works like crap in general. It etches alot of the styrene. Very fine most of the time, but still there. If it works for you, use it. I have to use a filler and sealer before using Krylon. It's all good though.

Thanks for tuning in and for this comment! I realize the paint formulas have changed or been modified and to say the least, I think it's a lot of "hit and miss" when it comes to spray paint. I will be moving away from spray paint in 2025 as I have purchased an airbrush system. I appreciate your information!
@NW-Scale5 күн бұрын
I still use rattle can for car bodies most of the time. I also use Createx paints through the airbrush. I use Duplicolor 1K clear on everything. More durable. Armor, aircraft, and Everything else I use my airbrush. All acrylic. On all of them I add the UVLS clear by Createx regardless of brand and it makes them all really durable, and more able to accept the 1K clear. Hopefully that information helps you out at some point.

Did you keep the opening doors? I built this 4/5 years ago,and those doors were great! Only ones I've ever had work! I stretched mine probably 4 inches,built a trip drive setup,and put a little flatbed behind the cab. They used to call them dromadary trucks. Seen em with short boxes ,tanks and flatbeds! That's a sweet build. Love your paint jobs. I use rattle cans and brushes,can't bring myself to drop the hammer on an airbrush. Like your builds. That super b train was really impressive! I noticed you and Joseph Cox like to replace the Detroit's with Cummins. I started buying models for the Detroits!! I took the 12v71 outta the Tyrone Malone race truck and put it in a Western Star! It's way customized.

The doors on my K100 certainly do open, near the end of the clip I show that feature off and give a look into the interior. I love this truck! I like Joseph's channel and his builds. We sure do like to kit-bash. I use spray paint as well. I bought an airbrush but I haven't used it yet... I'm gonna give it a try at some point. The "Drom" trucks are (well, used to be) very popular up here in Canada... especially with the furniture movers. I've driven a few mounted on Freightliners. @@karlturon427 Yeah, I don't have a channel! This computer stuff is pretty new for me. I'm 47 and missed all this stuff at school by a couple years,and just in the last 4/5 years have I even had a note pad kinda thing so I can watch you tube and look up reference photos for the trucks I build! My best friend,more like a brother really,was going to help me set up a channel and show me how to make videos and post em... But this damn plague hit and we didn't want to try to get together,he's got a 3 and 4 year old and we got a 1 and 2 year old out here,and we didn't want mix households to much! Things calm down,what with the vaccination program and all,we have plans to set it up! I subbed to your channel,and if things work out,I'll let you know when I get established! I drive grain trucks and the water truck for a farmer here, and tend to have a bit of down time,so I build as much as I can! Be cool to be able to show em off! I build mostly 1\25 scale semi trucks and trailers,but do some cars and pick-up trucks for the variety. Spend quite a bit of time scratch building flatbeds and doing stretches and things like that. I've only got about 6 trucks that are box stock,the other couple dozen or so,I've done some minor stuff to some pretty extreme customizing. Most of it is functional tipe stuff, not much into those slammed super shiny show trucks! I drive for a living so I like to make things like I would like to drive myself,so no real low stuff,no big Texas bumpers,or halfway down the windshield visors! I drive the same Freightliner Colombias in and out of fields that I drive up to KC MO elevators! Really like your builds, I'll keep my eyes peeled for more posts. Take care,stay safe and healthy!

Thanks John for your compliments! I extended the frame with some 1" extension's I cut out from another set of frame rails and then spliced them in.
