Speaking of bmf. Don't want to hijack anything or step on toes, but since bmf is kind of pricey, I've found you can make your own buy using gold leaf gilding paste to glue cheapest thinnest dollar store aluminum foil to backing paper (like the kind that they put stickers on), which lets you make large sheets of the stuff for pennies

Agreed. Aluminum foil is great for large flat areas. Better than kitchen aluminum foil is the thinner and lighter 'leaf foil' used for home made candy wrappers, and they come in colors as well (great for cars)!

Much respect! Bare metal foil can be a bear to work with. Even though this wasn't a build where the Mustang looked like it went to hell in back I think it came out quite nice. Hope to see more plane builds.

If you ever plan on making another plane ,you should totally attach some string on the wings , and other area's, and tap in to the sailing so it looks like it's flying.As always, great work , and cant wait for next build:)

Heel netjes!

You know, you could try buying the 30ml Refill of the Molotow Liquid Chrome, and spray that straight through the airbrush. No need to thin and makes a great outcome!

Awesome work! The bare metal foil looks exactly like stainless steel, even though the originals were made of very similar looking aircraft aluminum alloy (obviously). BTW: would love seeing you build one day one of the American classic cars from the late 1930s through early 1950s (pre-tail fin - rocket age craze) in 1/25th scale, preferably stock (IMHO the whole custom, low rider, race, dragster, rat/hot rod conversion thing is getting kinda old, but that's just my personal taste as a movie buff, especially that era). Some great recent kits available from Revell Monogram and of course the re-issued classic AMT kits (among some others such as the awesome late 1940s Chevy Fleetmaster Coupe or Aerosedan 2015 re-releases by Galaxie). These are my personal favorites. Way too few made as kits IMHO, but enough for a nice collection. I'm sure you would come up with the finest looking killer miniature vehicles. Please keep up the awesome work!

Looks good :D And all the panel lines and rivets that would have been filled wouldn't be anymore with bare aluminum wings since the putty would come off with the paint, so it worked out for you :)

Actually, being a model builder who does primarily military models, cars can be very similar to planes. Many of the skills transfer. Canopies and windows are the same. Also, unlike tanks, even wartime or active military planes can be gloss and semi-gloss. Do more.

Nice build, as ever. The foil does give the impression of bare unpainted aluminium (I know it's chrome foil, but over that big an area it looks like aluminium) I would've liked to see how you tackled a camo paint scheme and applied the decals and weathering. Covering it in foil is cheating! ;) Does look good though. Also, I'm suprised you haven't built a Ferrari 250GTO yet.

What brand of foil do you use? Thank you! Amazing job!
@WatchinDWorldGoBy
@WatchinDWorldGoBy 3 жыл бұрын
'Bare Metal Foil' brand. You can also use leaf-foil used for candy wrappers and glue it using gold-leaf adhesive. Microscale makes a foil adhesive, although a generic will work as well. I apply it to both the model and metal foil for better adhesion, and use an old eraser to burnish it down. You can file and sand the creases carefully and they'll almost disappear. Odorless turpentine will clean the adhesive from your model.

As a suggestion for a future build I'd love to see an older style car from the 30s/40s such as the Italeri 1/24 Rolls Royce Phantom II or something similar.

@@TheScalemodelingChannel I'm asking mainly because I'm debating on best way to do chrome on my upcoming builds. I'm all but decided on Molotow markers, but bare metal foil looks pretty slick. It is however a bit harder to get than said marker and I heard about people having issues with it peeling off.
