Revenge Clicks on eBay Ads Coming? - Your Reselling Q&A

In a recent article on eCommercebytes.com, Ina Steiner has an article where eBay Germany is implementing a change to their promoted listing program where sellers will be charged for promoted listings even when the buyer never clicked directly on the sponsored ad, BUT someone else did. It certainly makes no sense to me, but in the article it could create a situation where your competitor or someone who dislikes you could go and view all of your listings and then the seller would be on the hook for PL fees even if the sale was organic. Very confusing I know, but lets try to decipher this because as we all know, eBay.uk and eBay.de are all quasi testing grounds for what is eventually implemented into the US.

I quit promoting around October of last year when when details were removed from Ebay traffic reports. This was clearly an effort to conceal the high percentage of promoted listings being charged promoted rates, despite the small percent of page views being promoted.

They are doing this with promoted because the current way with keeping track of who clicks what and buys what is taking up too much bandwidth. By changing it to the new way it just remembers it has been clicked as promoted by someone instead of hundreds of someones and drastically reduces bandwidth usage.

@@FlippinAintEasy Even if they don't make a dime more from the sales they make money by saving on the reduction on the bandwidth costs. Plus it might help in reducing glitches in the system.

The reality is you never knew if the sale was really through add or not now it's just out in the open that everything will be charged whatever you said as add percentage

You don't need AI to do this. Basic scripting has enabled this as a possibility for the last 3p years.
