In this installment of our 'What Makes This Ride So Good?' series, we turn our attention to a Universal classic! Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride at Universal Studios Florida, as part of the Universal Orlando Resort combines some of our favourite elements for theme park attractions to make an amazing ride. This ride combines a traditional dark ride with an intense indoor roller coaster, while incorporating some in-depth theming. This is all tied in together with a layered story to create the world's first ever psychological fear ride! We're going to take a look at these various aspects to detail what makes this ride so good.
Revenge of the Mummy is also included in both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore and has become a firm fan classic of each resort. But it's also highly regarded in the theme park industry and has been awarded legendary status according to the Golden Ticket Awards. Sit back and enjoy 'Revenge of the Mummy - What Makes This Ride So Good?'

If I may add, I think the falling door near the beginning and the act of going backwards could also be tapping in the fears of riders as well. The closing door could maybe be claustrophobia, and whatever the fear of going backwards is for that part.

For sure! Going backwards is fear of the unexpected maybe? The closing door could also be the fear of being trapped. 😱

I went on this ride with some of my closest friends back in May and the day was going terribly. We were there for two hours and our day was just crumbling. In the queue, right next to the Anubis statue, a quarter dropped out of no where from the sky! We all knew logically someone had dropped it from above but it really looked like Anubis had blessed us with that quarter! Our day got a lot better after that and we all attributed it to the lucky quarter of death

One thing I really like about the Florida one is that is the only ride in the resort to be based on any of the Universal classic monsters. The 1999 Mummy film is a re-make of a 1932 film of the same name produced by Universal pictures.
@christinedubois5954
@christinedubois5954 2 жыл бұрын
I never understood why Universal decided to re-make the Original 1932 The Mummy Film. Universal should know that you don’t mess with The Classics!
@warrenrhinerson6373
@warrenrhinerson6373 2 жыл бұрын
@@christinedubois5954 well the reason they did it, is a tad bit complicated. For one the money was actually relatively unknown compared to the other Universal classic monsters like Frankenstein the Wolfman or Dracula. As such of a significantly easier to introduce the mummy to a younger audience then it would be for those particular characters. Also those were the types of films that were actually popular at the time the campy action adventure films. Given that the mummy himself is not retigorarily menacing, especially to a modern audience rewriteing the story to be in adventure film was actually a stroke of genius and it was a great way to tell the same story to the younger generation. Think of it kind of like a battery powered wristwatch versus a mechanical one. Battery powered watches are significantly easier to produce, they are significantly cheaper and they are more popular than mechanical watches, mechanical watches on more expensive require more interaction to keep them working and more man hours to produce but you build a stronger connection with the mechanical watch then the battery powered one. Personally I agree with you the 1932 original is a phenomenal movie, but Relatively few people even know that it even exists outside of the universal theme parks

My favourite roller coaster. I love that the coaster section isn’t actually that bad but the fear of the unknown makes it scarier. Once you complete it you’re like that wasn’t scary that was fun!

I went on this ride for the first time about a decade ago... I was pretty young and kept my eyes closed the entire ride. I didn't get the spooks but I loved the coaster experience itself (I DO remember the queue freaked me out big time though... totally got blasted by the air gimmick 😂) I just returned to the park this month and rode it again eyes wide open and LOVED EVERYTHING! I kept alerts for the queue length running for it all day so we could ride it again and again. I heard it just recently had a refurbishment as well, and I'm SO glad they kept all the footage of the cast and crew the same, and of course, still included beloved Brendan Fraser and his perfect horrified scream at the end 😂

I once got stuck in this ride on the part when the ceiling lights up on fire and Imhotep says "DEATH IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!!!" It was very annoying because it kept looping the fire ceiling and you could feel the intensity of the heat!😂 But it was cool to see how the animatronic sets itself back up and how the fire ceiling turns off. One of the best rides ever!!!

Honestly the most intense part of the ride is the fire pit atleast for me it was because I didn’t know what to expect and was still processing everything that had just happened and so when the “fire” was hit my brain thought I was actually about to die for a second and that has never happened on any ride I’ve ever ridden with the exception of forbidden journeys dementors and so I was shook when I got off and that is how you know it is a job well done

The block zones are weird on this ride, I once broke down in the fake exit room for a couple minutes. Being in the room stuck I hear the cart behind us launch out and proceed the first half coaster section while were still stuck in their. I thouht for a sec they were gonna hit us because we werent going for a moment. About 15 secons after they launch out we go and finish off the ride safely. Just found that interesting tbh

I am going to US Orlando for the first time soon and I DON’T DO ROLLERCOASTERS, mostly because I’m just a scaredy-cat. But I love things like Test Track (because of its speed), Dinosaur (I don’t find it scary and I love the roughness of the ride), Big Thunder (probably the most intense coaster I’ve been on so far), and I can even do Jurassic Park River Adventure (but the drop makes me feel uncomfortable) I’ve also been on the Matterhorn coaster in Disneyland and love it. I really want to try the Mummy but I’m just really scared, stuff like the effects and launch don’t scare me (I’ve watched multiple ride videos on the Mummy) it’s mostly how the forces feel on my body and the drops that worry me. I just really want to know how intense is the Mummy? And would I be able to handle it? I really want to try it I am just extremely nervous.
@ThemeSeekers

The intense bits are for sure intense! Maybe similar to Big Thunder Mountain but in the dark so it's more unpredictable. We'd definitely say try it though, it's probably more suitable to your needs than say Rip Ride Rockit or Incredible Hulk.

@@ThemeSeekers Update: I rode it and absolutely LOVED IT!! in total I rode it about 5 times during my trip and wow it’s like enough thrill where it’s enjoyable but not too much where I feel it in my gut. It helps that the coaster is short but by the end I kinda wished it was longer! While I still wouldn’t do anything like the Hulk or Velocicoaster, this showed me that maybe I should try out more bigger rides. Thanks for advice!

I mean, it's ok. It definitely doesn't warrant a video about how "good" it is. The coaster portion is boring, the soldiers in the begining are cheap statues that don't move, and the animatronics are not aging well. Not to mention it just ends. Imhotep is chasing you and then....you're back at the station. Sure it's themed nicely, and the practical effects are nice in an age of all screens, but it's nothing I would tell somebody they need to wait more than like, 20 minutes for.
