Well Duel headstarted these kind of chase scenes in movies. Duel is a cult classic that is very popular in modern day movies when a truck runs down another vehicle. Although I wish some movies wouldn't rip off Duel like Wrecker did.

Based on actual events, but In reality Paul Sams was 24, not 18 years old when he was hit by the truck. There was a witness (the equivalent of "Red Robin" in the film) who subsequently couldn't be traced and there wasn't enough evidence to proceed. Claude Sams died before completion of the film as we see at the end. Very sad.

Back in the day sometimes on long weekend's before there were many 4 lane highways in western Canada. Having spent several days on the road. Whanting to get home to take my wife out for a few drinks and some dancing.. The traffick on highway 16 was just stupid.. Always some bozo in the front doing 50MPH.. Traffick coming the other way wouldn't allow anyone to pass.. I'm sure you have all experienced that... A few times I went on the shoulder... Past the whole string of vehicles .. Then the bozo got the hint and pulled over letting people buy.. I know I was in the wrong. But what of Bozo?? Holding up all the long weekend traffic?? Never got reported.. In sted the traffick started too also passing the bozo on the shoulder till he got the ,message pulled over... ROAD RAGE.. Dam straight.... If a dude what's to go 15 mph below the speed limit least have the decency to pull onto the shoulder every few mints yo let the accumulated string go by.. most motorhomes do that..

DarilVanHorn Actually there was no governor in these older rigs, and cars for that matter. They could be pushed to their limits, even at 80 to 90 mph. A lot of companies will set speed restrictions on their trucks while stupid states like California and a couple others only let rigs go 55 mph max! How can you expect to get your cargo to its destination on time when your speed is limited to less than the rest of traffic is traveling at?
