I keep coming back to this just to watch Andy play Pentagram. Andy, I've been watching your videos since the early Pro Guitar Shop days. I've gotta say, you're the man. It makes me happy seeing someone play pedals with the genres they're most likely to be associated with. Thanks again.

How would you compare this to Acapulco Gold? Both are going for exactly same tone
@tite934 жыл бұрын
A bit late, but it's quite different I mean, Burning Sunn has six times more controls and is much more flexible Acapulco is great as a distofuzz, while Burning Sunn is a full preamp you can just plug into a power amp and go to town
@zuckeraffen78034 жыл бұрын
@@tite93 plus the acapulco is aiming for the poweramp tone whilst the burning sunn goes for the simulatino of the preamp afaik

He's playing it into a Fender DR. To get the tone closer youd play a Sunn T preamp pedal like this into an IR from a Sunn cab. (Yeah I'm replying to a 2 yr old KZbin comment, so what)

How would you compare this to the EQD Acapulco Gold pedal, which is basically the same idea ("modelling" a Sunn Model T).
@Wolf_K5 жыл бұрын
Dave Lanciani I can compare only my own version of the model T preamp and the AG, both of which I made myself. Both my circuits are identical to their respective pedals. MT is far thicker, darker and has much less distortion. It’s not supposed to be high gain, just to mimic the amp, which it does very well if you adjust your tube amp EQ to accept the MT EQ. Running two preamps each with their own B/M/T EQ takes a bit of time and adjustments to get it just right. The key to the MT sound is, in my experience, the EQ it has which is why it sounds dark. AG is just a distortion pedal, kind of like a Rat in sound. It sounds nothing like a model T in any way, shape, or form. It uses 2x LM386 opamps rather than 4x J201 FETs. A completely different circuit altogether. The MT pedal is the same MT amp circuit but the FETs replace the preamp tubes so it can be run at 9volts. The MT preamp uses two tubes, each tube has two gain stages in the one package and so four JFETs are required to simulate the two tubes. Knowing this, comparing the MT Amp and the MT pedal schematics you can see that for all intents and purposes they’re identical. The EQD AG claims are just marketing as it sounds completely different. It does sound great though. I like it quite a bit although on its own it’s not very thick unless you make some changes to the circuitry; then you can make it a real beast and have a true gain control on it as well. However, run the AG into the MT and the sound is brilliant. By far my favourite distortion box is both run together. I know the reply is late but I hope it helps you out.

Doesn't sound like a T to me... sounds like a wicked fuzz though with an awesome chassis design. Cranked T tone comes from the power amp with the long tailed PI pushed to the brink. You won't get it from a stompbox.

Not a big fan of how fuzzy this sounds, definitely doesn't sound like a model T preamp on its own. I've got a Midnight Amplification Giant Sound which is a model T preamp pedal but it has way less fuzzy gain than this, you've really got to have the gain up pretty high to get a lot of crunch or boost into it with another pedal. Sounds a lot more responsive and amp-like than this. This is definitely a cool pedal but it sounds like a fuzz and not an amp

this sounds really nice! Seriously though at close to $250 for less than $5 worth of electrical components this thing is over priced. "Boutique" pedals are a laugh!
@genm48276 жыл бұрын
Well, it's also the research, know-how, build times, trial-and-error, quality control, the other general costs of running a business, and so on. Everyone knows it's much cheaper to make your own pedals instead of buying them, anyway. Although, of course, I will agree that a lot of (but not all) boutique/hand made pedals are overpriced, but hey, if people are willing to buy them for those prices, that's their problem, not mine!
@BillyTalentguitar16 жыл бұрын
Ben, the guy behind Ground FX is a friend of mine and trust me, he’s really after using only the best components, prints the enclosures by hand in a local shop that is a bit more expensive but definitely pays the employees a good salary and you can always ask him stuff about everything. As already said, it’s not only the parts that go into a pedal (which are more than 5$ for the pots alone) but also the time he spent with developing, soldering and everything else. After all you can buy the parts yourself and build your own pedal or buy a cheap pedal that’s made for 15cent/hour by a machine, but what you do with a pedal like this is appreciate the pedal itself. You pay for the guy to make a living out of it, for the workshop, etc. It’s more than just the sum of its parts.

These Model T in a box pedals make no sense to me. The whole reason people like these amps is because of how loud, clean and how “linear” the power section is. You can’t capture that in a stomp box.
