Since hl1 brought up storytelling in fps games and hl2 perfected physics mechanics, I always figured as early as 2010 that HL3's innovation would be a mix of dynamic open world rpg system in the fps genre, similar to immersive sims like system shock or deus ex1, but valve budget type of big . It would've been the next logical step to evolve the hl series, since ep3 got canned in 2008-2009. It's just a shame that early and mid 2010s Valve was a trainwreck that couldn't finish projects.

Back then they had some actual game releases and maintained 5+ games regularly, on the other hand their biggest releases over the last 5 years are all hardware, HLA being the small exception that in it's essence was a clever advert for another hardware product and has been neglected since the initial marketing push, they don't even work on updating their big three games anymore man :'(

@@chip652 I would say that post Portal 2 Valve was the worst they ever got. A lot of projects getting canned mid development in favor of microtransactions for cs go and dota 2. It's a miracle HLA got finished when you look at all their canned projects in the 2010s, i think even l4d3 got canned when it was 70% done if i recall. Shame the Source 2 sdk isn't even close to being released as they promised. I think right now, they're just trying to revive the half life IP and go back to their single player roots with HL X(hla spin off). Project Citadel is as close as we'll get to a new coop-multiplayer game. Gabe is focused on brain interfacing right now, and i figure there are no plans for a new HL3 aside from maybe notes on a white board.

@@vladz1 Yeah, Valve is great as always, but the great thing about the workers' having their freedom of what to work on unfortunately just leads to people being extremely lazy and often preferring to take the easiest job instead of them actually caring to work on big projects and new games. MTX are literally the worst plague that has ever happened in gaming.

Yeah I had a similar issue, the audio levels are a little low and not well mixed. Good job with your English skills, it's almost perfect but in this context your "to" should be a "too", e.g.: "too much sugar" vs "we're going to the bar".

Valve operates so all their employees can work on any project they want and just completely scrap a project on a whim. Left4Dead 3 was actually pretty far along on development but they all got bored and started working on something else

The amount of pain I’m in regarding Half Life is immeasurable. My friend introduced me to Half Life in 2014, and I played all the games in a few months. I could not wait for a new game, and I remember watching all your videos about leaks and possible new content. I held out hope that we would eventually get another Half Life game. We eventually did, and it was great, but VR is just not something I enjoy right now. I don’t think it’s quite there yet for me to play a lot of it like I do with traditional games. It’s always blurry for me no matter what I do. I hope one day we get a true Half Life 3.

As an aside, I noticed Duke Nukem 64 playing on your TV. That's my favourite version of the game, as I prefer many of it's changes from DN3D, such as being able to save the abducted women (why couldn't you do this in DN3D? Duke is supposed to be a stereotypical action hero, after all), the weapon changes, and some of the level alterations. It's a shame Blood and Shadow Warrior (the other two great Build games) were never ported to consoles. Those two games, especially the fantastic Blood, really deserved a wider audience.
