You hit the nail on the head Doc. But I don’t have to read the proof for myself. , because I’m living proof. As a late teenager and through the late 30s, I stayed on Rolaids and Tums. Then I went to Nexium, Prilosec and while taking these I ended up with 14 ulcers on my upper stomach and esophagus, (pictures to prove it). I could not ingest ACV, tooooo pair. I was Sent to a specialist and ended up taking 40 mg of Zegerid twice daily and told, I would have to stay on this for the rest of my life. Not an option! A number of years later I stumbled on to keto. After 10 days of going straight to keto, 80% of heartburn was gone. 🎉 some baking soda and water got me through the pain until the keto kicked in fully. Now, 0 ulcers, heartburn for 13 months and I eat ANYTHING and take ACV twice daily. I went on keto for the health benefits not to lose weight. Losing weight was a fringe benefit. At 65, I feel like I’m 40 again. Love life and keto rules.

@milstringfellow62834 жыл бұрын
@@blezercruz25 Hi Bob. I knew what foods triggered my burn, so I stayed away from these. My main culprit was grains which I stayed away from 100%. First 3 months I was, STRICT and CLEAN keto. This made the transition to IF easier. I eat at around 11am then, then if hungry, around 5pm. Now, I eat most anything keto. Also, I love spicy peppers and food which do not effect my stomach adversely. However, for some reason eggs still cause me a little discomfort so I eat no more than 3 at a sitting. I've been on keto for 18 months now and because of my results, will NEVER go back to the SAD (standard American diet) again. Hang in there, there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

That's amazing!! I love hearing keto stories, and I'm changed by keto as well! I am a nurse by trade and only wanted to mention that the baking soda trick should only be short term, as that can change the pH in your stomach, and may worsen digestion. Especially if already low from the type of diet being eaten. It is however a good short term tool that can be very effective, just not to over do it. Stay save out there everyone! xx

@@dana102083 Thanks for your comment. You’re 100% correct about the baking soda. It is a temporary fix. After KETO does its job, there’s no need for the baking soda. Like I mentioned in my case, it only took about a month and a half. In the following 20 months I have taken soda 1 time. 😃

A few years ago, I woke to a strong 'Chemical' taste in my mouth. I was sleeping on my right side and never had that happen before. I remembered something that I had read years prior to that incident and tried it out. I went to the fridge and took out a bottle of "Real Lime" concentrate and swallowed a teaspoon of it. Five minutes later, the pain and discomfort wes gone. It happened a couple of times after and I used the same method of dealing with it. That was at least 10 years ago and i haven't had a recurrence of heartburn. I remember that the Doctor who said that using Antacids will only treat the symptoms and the problem will only get worse. I also remember the reason why that method works, but I'll let anyone who tries the method explain why it works and will say why it does if requested. It's worth a try and it really doesn't taste that bitter and it certainly will not worsen the problem or add a new one. Be Well and Stay Safe Folks .

My hubby was in hospital and was given a PPI along with his sleeping shot right before bed time. The next day he had a blockage in his system. The 1st visit to the ER he was sent home with the flu. I had a horse and a donkey who had a blockage so recognized for what it was so back to the ER. This time they wanted to treat him for the flu and send him home again but we told the Dr no. We thought he had a blockage. Another doctor came in and started treating him for a blockage. First vital signs, then a fluid drip, then they pumped his stomach, just like the vet did. He improved right away but they admitted him. I was visiting when the nurse came in to give sleeping and more PPI shots. I refused the PPI because of the results from the night before and he became angry and told me to shut up. I was about to stand between him and that shot when the nurse came in and stood by ME. All I had was my purse to protect him so I was glad she came in. He had a previous reaction and partial blockage when he was told to take ppi after an ablation. We were able to get relief with massive amounts of milk of magnesia. Saved him from the ER. As people myself included get older we need more acid, not less. Why did they want to give him a ppi? So he would not call them to go to the bathroom? Then they would have to unhook him from the machines to go to the bathroom. Convenience? I can't think of another reason. It made me terrified of hospitals. I think as patient or wife we have a right to refuse anything they propose. I eat very very low carb but if I cheat, I get heartburn and have to take acv. It works. Have lost 40#. High value foods only. No cheap filler foods or manufactured box foods for us now. And no PPIs.

I don't need acv any more. And no more reflux. Gone. My reflux used to get so bad, I couldn't think through the pain. Then I'd faint.

My heartburn did not go away until I stopped eating wheat. I am mostly on keto now, but allowed myself to eat some bread once in 2 weeks. Even if it was made by myself from best non fortified, not bleached organic flour - at this day I have bad heartburn at night. So sad, I love bread and there is no substitute for it.

Great suggestions! I raised my torso and head by sleeping on a wedge of foam, suggested to me by the son of a woman who used one successfully for her reflux. Almost no reflux at all! Rarely, except when I eat a little later than usual. My search for an alternative to the proton pump inhibitor prescribed for me (two different ones) happened because I do not do well on most meds and couldn’t tolerate the ones prescribed for me. Betaine Hydrochloride is a good supplement to increase or maintain optimal acid levels in one’s stomach. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this one doc. I have been on carnivore for about 8 months after a 2 month initial keytogenic diet. My problem is CFS for the last 10 years (I am 67) . Symptoms are slowly but surely lessening but I am still having big issues with getting any more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep each night. I can only sleep for 1 or 2 hours at a time, always being woken up by nightmares and acid reflux. My theory is that the nightmares are some sort of natural alert system that triggers something so alarming that you have to wake up and reposition in bed or just get on your feet before the acid has time to do actual damage by intruding into areas that were never meant to be flooded with acid. I feel that if I could just start getting a decent amount of sleep each night I could really make some gains on the CFS which has drastically altered my formerly very active life. Any further comments from you on this and the general subject of CFS would be greatly appreciated by me and many others. You and all the other brave docs are a great sorce of hope and are the foundation of the coming paradigm shift of diet and personal health care. Thanks so much doc!

try vitamin B1 (Thiamine). I too suffered from insomnia and also heart, lung and gut issues either waking me up or preventing from falling asleep. Been a week on Thiamine and have fallen asleep within minutes every single night, and when I have been woken up by my kids or neighbour's dogs, etc. I fall back asleep within minutes sometimes seconds. Try the TTFD type of Thiamine (the brand I am using is THIAMAX). TTFD crosses the blood/brain barrier and is absorbed very well. Cheers mate.

Yes, Dr. Berry, the food and drug industries scratch each others' backs. It's a money-making cycle. We eat advertised foods and then have to take advertised medicines. As I'm now 67, I know I really have to try a LOT harder to stay healthy, so if food is manufactured by someone, it's probably best that I don't eat it. Losing weight on keto got me off my blood pressure medication :)

Hi Dr. Berry, I love watching your informative video’s and recently started watching your wife’s channel. Love them both! My stomach and esophagus are a mess even with my 45 pound weight loss the end of 2019 and eating low carb, low sugar, omad, fasting 48 hrs at least 1 time a month, minimal. I’ve been maintaining 140 pounds with a height of 5’10. I’ve been diagnosed gerd for several yrs, off and on stomach ulcers for a good decade, the beginning of 2020 dx with Barrett’s disease, and on pantoprazole 40mg 2x’s day. The last month I’ve had even more stomach and esophagus issues that I had yet another endoscopy a couple of weeks ago. (Just had one end of 2019 too). Now I’m scheduled for a Cat Scan, EGD w/dilation, Pyloric Stenosis. Hoping I’ll feel better once my Gastro Dr. enlarges that narrowing tube. He wants me to be on Sucralfate 4x’s day for a month before doing that procedure/surgery above. We are thinking my food is having a harder time breaking down and doing what it’s suppose to do before entering the small intestine. I was told I have more acid in my stomach than normal. Some of this information is all new to me as of this week so I’ve been reading what that surgery is and learning. I hope if a person isn’t feeling too well and health issues aren’t going away as easily as expected that they seek medical help from their Gastro. Physician. I’ve had miserable days and nights and even went to the ER back in April with flu like symptoms (w/no fever) for days. I have more than just a little gerd. It’s miserable.
@cherylcalifornia1254 жыл бұрын
@@BelCantoLari Hi Susie, Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. I ended up having major stomach surgery last month (11-2-30) that took 5 hours and was in the hospital for 6 days. Those first two weeks were really hard after my surgery but I’m feeling so much better now with no miserable symptoms from gerd and what not. Part of the surgery was called Billroth II. My surgeon had to remove part of my stomach, 8 inches of “tubing” in my stomach, cut out and redirect stuff and stitch me up internally in two different area’s. It was pretty intense especially waking up and having a drain tube in my side and a tube down my nose that went to my esophagus down to my stomach. Lost 10 pounds while in the hospital. Just telling my story because I hope people will seek medical help if it’s more than just a little acid reflex that they might be experiencing. I’m definitely feeling 100% better. Thank you again .

I don't really have those heartburn BURNING sensations/ symptoms, but after each meal, my throat is making me crazy due to the fact that I have to continuously swallow. It's like my throat keeps making excess saliva and it goes up and down during the day. I do not smoke, never have, I've done low carb/ keto almost a year now. Vegetables, eggs, meat, bacon. NO processed "foodlike products". I am very thin, being 6'1 and 154 pounds, so I'm far from being overweight. My guess is that my stomach can not handle the high fat content that well, especially from beef, bacon etc. and anything fried on a pan. I use organic olive oil ONLY and do not go near all these inflammatory vegetable seed oils. I really don't know what I should do. Applecider vinegar has been in my kitchen for a long time now, but I never found it very helpful, as I do not notice any difference.

My overall pain had decreased a lot. 5 yrs ago I got off opiates or as I called it *Dr Dope* after many years ~ that's when I quit going to a Dr... @@priyadayanandan9091 A hospital bed with a slight angle with my head and upper body part tilted up. Although I don't appreciate this because my back, likes it better flat, it has completely made the gerd go away. When I've read about it, it said just elevating helps but having an actual bed at an angle slightly lifting the body up at an angle is what does the improvement. You can look it up online to find the specifics. It doesn't have to be a huge angle. I noticed the difference with a slight angle because I can't have a big angle because of my back. With the apple cider vinegar, you use the raw, unfiltered 'with the mother' apple cider vinegar. About a teaspoon in some water and drink it everyday. You can drink it three times a day if you want.
